Not being bowl eligible, UF gets to have its house cleaning done early. I can honestly say I'm not a bit surprised with Kent Taylor leaving as he was passed over for stone handed TEs (dumb/dumb/dumb):

Florida coach Will Muschamp announced Thursday that five players are leaving the program -- fullback Rhaheim Ledbetter, tight end Kent Taylor, offensive tackle Quinteze Williams, offensive tackle Trevon Young and offensive guard Ian Silberman.
Ledbetter, Taylor, Williams and Young are transferring. Silberman, a redshirt junior this past season, graduates from UF on Saturday and has decided to play his senior year at another school in the fall.
Silberman started seven games over the past two seasons. The other four players were all reserves. Taylor, Williams and Young did not see the field during the 2013 season.
With the five players leaving, it opens scholarships that will allow the Gators to sign 21 players in February instead of only 16.

lz, all is not lost. UF picked up its second commitment of the day:
Gators land two ESPN300 members By Zach Abolverdi Correspondent

With Florida’s issues in pass protection this season and the loss of three seniors, the offensive line is one of the biggest priorities for the Gators in the 2014 recruiting cycle.
They helped meet those needs in a major way Thursday by landing Jacksonville Providence offensive tackle David Sharpe, who has been the top overall target on UF’s board for months.
The Gators also picked up a pledge from Perry Taylor County’s Moral Stephens, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound receiver who is being recruited by Florida as a tight end.
The 6-foot-6, 288-pound Sharpe chose the Gators over Tennessee. He also received interest from Clemson, Florida State, Georgia and LSU.
He made six trips to Gainesville during his recruiting process and built a strong relationship with the UF coaches.
“They’ve been there from the start. So just keeping that relationship with them from day one, I know I’m going to be comfortable there for my four years,” Sharpe said during his radio announcement on 1010 XL in Jacksonville.
ESPN ranks Sharpe as the No. 18 prospect in the nation and No. 2 at his position. He’s also rated a five-star recruit by 247Sports, while Rivals and Scout have him as a four-star.
Sharpe’s father, David Sr., said his son’s decision was based on one factor.
“Early playing time, that’s really all it is,” he said. “David is a great athlete. He wants to play and he thinks he can at Florida. And obviously they’ll offer him a good degree for whatever he decides to take up in school.”
Stephens got an offer from UF head coach Will Muschamp over the phone Thursday morning and committed on the spot, revealing his decision on social media.
He was a standout at one of Florida’s summer camp sessions in June and attended the Vanderbilt game last month. Stephens held more than a dozen offers from other schools, including Florida State, Miami, LSU and Ohio State.
UF now has 18 verbal commitments and 11 members from the ESPN300 with the additions of Sharpe and Stephens. The Gators currently have 21 scholarships available for their 2014 class.
Verbal commitments are not binding until prospects sign their national letters of intent on Feb. 5.

Rumors have a few more transfers - looks like 21 will be a conservative number for the recruiting class. Isn't it nice to not be bowl eligible and get January in December? (shaking head) I can't remember having so much fun heading into a dead period in recruiting. (G)

Six offensive players are leaving the Florida football program.
Coach Will Muschamp announced Thursday the defections of fullback Rhaheim Ledbetter, tight end Kent Taylor, guard Ian Silberman and tackles Quinteze Williams and Trevon Young.
In addition to Muschamp's announcement, freshman quarterback Max Staver said on Twitter that he will also leave, writing "Thank you to everyone for the experience down there and the support. I will miss my teammates, friends, and also the Gator fans. God Bless."
The 6-foot-6, 238-pound quarterback out of Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) redshirted this past season.
Ledbetter, Taylor, Williams and Young are officially transferring. Silberman, a redshirt junior this past season, graduates from UF on Saturday and has decided to play his senior year at another school in the fall.
Silberman started seven games over the past two seasons. The other five players were all reserves. Taylor, Williams, Young did not see the field during the 2013 season.
“These young men felt it was in their best interest to look for an opportunity to play somewhere else,” Muschamp said. “We wish all of them the best of luck.”
Silberman and Taylor both posted responses on Twitter.
“Very blessed to play for this great University for the last four years but it is time for the next chapter. I'll always be a Gator!” Silberman wrote.
“I'm gonna miss my friends, my teammates, and gator fans, but you have to do what's best for u, so thank you for 2 great years gatornation,” Taylor tweeted.
With the six players leaving, it opens scholarships that will allow the Gators to sign 22 players in February instead of only 16.

lz, are you still melting down?
With UF's two commitments yesterday, the Gators' 4 average of the 4 recruiting services is 9.75. I hope you back away from the ledge. (G)
UF could pick up a big DT commitment next Tuesday. Thomas Holley, a 4 star 6'4"/300 DT from Brooklyn, NY, is down to Penn State and UF. It would make sense to stay closer to home, but UF has been on him for a long time so I like our chances. Having New Yorker Dominique Easley do well with UF probably helps us.

Got another of your commits on campus this weekend ET. JC Jackson sent out an Instagram of his Welcome to the U cookie with an note that I am home, then we got a tweet of him and Tracy Howard in the Rat with both throwing up the U. Everyone says we should like our chances with him better than any of the other otherwise committed recruits.

JC Jackson has been weak kneed for quite a while. There is as good or better out there if he finally moves along.

Watching the Lizards disaster the last 2 years is like watching Miley Cyrus twerking with Bigfoot. You know she's gonna get torn to shreds, but you're still enjoying the show. Who's got popcorn?

JC Jackson is a great talent at wide receiver. Average as a DB. He is dead set (as of now) to be a DB.

Darrell, I don't rank them. The recruiting services do.
The only have to have player in this class is QB Will Greer. He cannot be replaced.

Big News For Gator Basketball:
By Kevin Brockway Staff writer
Published: Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 12:58 p.m.
Last Modified: Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 12:58 p.m.
Florida finally added the second big piece to its 2013 class on Saturday, and it couldn't come at a better time.
McDonald's All-American forward Chris Walker is enrolled in school for the second semester, Florida announced. The 6'10"/220 freshman from Bonifay began practicing with the Gators on Saturday.
But Walker still needs to be cleared by the NCAA before he can compete in his first game. Florida coach Billy Donovan has ruled Walker out for UF's next game Tuesday against Memphis in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
“Chris Walker has been admitted to UF and is eligible to practice, but is not yet eligible to compete,” Florida said in a statement released Saturday morning.
Walker's pending arrival to UF was first reported last week by the website onlygators.com.
In Walker, Florida adds a potential impact player to its frontline. Walker was rated as a consensus top-15 player in the nation by most recruiting websites because of his ability to play in the open floor, finish around the rim, rebound and block shots. Walker led Class A Holmes County to a state title last season, finishing with 30 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks in the state title game.
Walker and freshman McDonald's All-American point guard Kasey Hill were the two signees in a 2013 UF recruiting class that ESPN.com rated 10th in the nation. But due to his inability to complete required core courses at Holmes County, Walker was unable to enroll at UF in the fall semester. Walker completed his required coursework during the fall to gain admittance.

More good news likely for Gator basketball - From Franz Beard on Gator Country:
"Alex Murphy left Duke a week ago and there is reason to believe that Florida will be his destination. When he signed with the Blue Devils out of high school, Murphy chose Duke over the Gators. He has a similar offensive skill set to older brother Erik Murphy, who scored more than 1,000 points in his Florida career and is a rookie with the Chicago Bulls this season, but Alex is thought to be a more physical rebounder and a better defender."
Alex would be available for the second semester of the 14-15 season and all of the 15-16 season, 1 1/2 years to play at UF.

JC Jackson is a great talent at wide receiver. Average as a DB. He is dead set (as of now) to be a DB. Both Scout and Rivals have him listed as a 4 star prospect at cornerback but with the size to play safety as well. I'd take that as average in a heartbeat, especially since the UF and FSU guys evidently don't want him.
