Darrell, I don't rank them. The recruiting services do. The only have to have player in this class is QB Will Greer. He cannot be replaced. Just messing with you ET. I'll be happy with whatever we wind up with as I have full faith in our coaches to build the roster. Especially now that they can counter the excessive negative NCAA recruiting tactics of the last couple of years. But you have to admit, guys like Cook got you excited committing when he is considered a top five running back in the country and a game changer, but when it looks like he may flip somewhere suddenly he really isn't an impact back. If he came to Miami he would instantly be #2 behind Duke. That's the kind of impact he can have. That is why I am hoping, if he doesn't come to Miami he stays with UF. We wouldn't have to deal with him unless we meet up in a bowl game.

On top of that, some of his skill set can be provided by Valdez Showers who came out of high school in Michigan as a RB/CB or S. Even you said earlier that he's a better CB than a RB. I hope he sticks with UF and will be excited to have him, but immediate impact/game changer isn't something I see from him in 14. That honor goes to QB Will Greer. Even he is likely to redshirt if Jeff Driskel and Tyler Murphy both come back in 14. I'm excited for all Gator commitments. I really like Khari Clark at DT. I'm glad he hasn't pussy footed around with his recruiting like some of the others.

FSU would love to have him at WR. Hell, I would offer him a chance at DB and if he can't crack the lineup there....let him go to receiver to get on the field.
I'd love him to be in our class.

You and Darrell have a lot in common when it comes to Dalvin Cook. He is committed to UF, but it's kind of like buyers are liars in real estate. Since he's an EE, unless that has changed, we'll find out soon enough.

It looks like Cook stays with UF IF he likes UF's OC hire. I can't say I blame him for wanting to know..........

Cook has made his mind up
by Zach Abolverdi
ORLANDO — Dalvin Cook was the center of attention in more ways than one at Saturday’s Class 6A state title game.
The Miami Central running back led his team to a 52-7 victory over Seffner Armwood, giving the Rockets their second straight championship and third in four years.
Cook rushed for 223 yards and four scores on 19 carries, including an impressive 80-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
After the game, he was surrounded by more than two dozen media members and pressed about his recruitment, which has heated up this month due to the contact period.
He responded to every reporter with his usual cool, calm and collected demeanor, but walked away from the interview leaving more questions than answers.
“I’m very excited,” Cook said when asked how he feels about enrolling early at Florida.
“I know the type of player I am. I’m going to work hard for what I want, and I’m going to go and change the program.”
Then things got interesting.
When asked where things stand with his pledge to UF, Cook responded, “I’m committed to Florida. I’m 100 percent until the Under Armour game.”
That’s when he plans to reveal his final decision, which Cook said he made last week.
“In my mind, I know where I’m going,” he said. “Nobody knows but me. I’m going to do it halftime of the Under Armour game and I’m going to put my hat on.”
If Cook is 100 percent committed to Florida and already has his mind made up, doesn’t that mean he’ll announce for the Gators on Jan. 2?
“You never know,” he said.
What Cook does know is that after two weeks of coaches coming by his school and house, he has figured out which staff he wants to play for.
“Once you keep hearing the same thing from all the coaches, sometimes you’ve got to recognize what’s real and what’s fake,” Cook said. “That’s why I’m going to shut it down. It’s shut down today.”
“The coaches I felt the most comfortable around, they came in, kept it real with me. I just felt comfortable with those coaches.”
UF assistant Travaris Robinson is Cook’s primary recruiter and doesn’t appear to be one of the coaches he considers fake.
“Coach T-Rob, he can relate to me,” Cook said. “He’s been through all this, so he knows how it goes. When you open your recruiting process you can hear a lot of things, and your mind kind of gets confused. He said he knows how it is.”
Cook claims he didn’t get turned off by Florida’s 4-8 record in 2013.
“I know the type of player I am, and I wasn’t even worried about the season they had because I know I can probably go fix it,” he said. “I’m just trying to get in the offense that fits me.”
Who UF hires as its next offensive coordinator could make or break Cook’s commitment to the Gators.
“It’s going to matter a lot, because I want an offensive coordinator that really fits me and can relate to my game,” he said. “I’m trying to go to an offense that’s really balanced, that can run the ball and pass the ball. I’m trying to get ready for that next step and who’s going to groom me into that next step.”
The Florida coaches have given Cook an idea of what they plan to run next season.
“They said they’re trying to run the offense that Auburn ran a little bit this year,” he said. “They’re going to spread it out, and they’re going to pass it and run it.”
Does that appeal to Cook?
“Yeah, it does,” he said.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder has signed financial aid agreements with Florida, Florida State and Miami. His coach, Roland Smith, said his star player has leaned toward each school at one point in time.
“It’s different schools different days,” Smith said. “He’ll pick the right one in the end. I really believe that. He has a lot of coaches on edge right now, but it’s a tough decision.
“One thing he doesn’t want to do is hurt anybody’s feelings. But these coaches have been told no before, so you have to do what’s best for you.”
Smith feels Brent Pease’s replacement will determine whether or not Cook sticks with UF.
“He will have to feel comfortable with the new OC they bring in, and he has to see if it’s the right fit for him,” Smith said. “At first it was. He’s still committed, but we’ll see.”

Didn't see the game but Cook ran all over my alma mater today. Tough loss but not terribly unexpected. I took my girls to the Armwood basketball game the other night and ran into the head football coach. He is as confident a man as any you will ever meet but he uncharacteristaclly said he was worried about this game. Obviously that was for good reason.

Seffner Armwood isn't used to losing games like that. He'll say for sure at the UA game on January 2. IMO, if Cook likes UF's OC and the plans for the offense, he'll be a Gator.

Thankfully being an early entry this dog and pony show has to come to an early end. The winner gets a stud. Still like our chances. Cook loves Hurley Brown who is his lead recruiter and would be his position coach. Grandma thinks it is FSU. Mom and Dad are all in for Miami. Brother is already at Miami and his best friend Yearby is a solid UM commit. Close to home. Everything makes perfect sense for Miami. So he probably goes to Texas. <g> Gotta love recruiting.

I have no idea about Cook, but...
It doesn't look good for UF if he says his decision is made and is shutting down recruiting, but at the same time arguing that his decision on UF may be based on who is hired as OC.

Cook shutting down recruiting? It sounds like no contact, but not hardly. Signing financial aid papers with three schools will allow access by those schools. If Will Muschamp didn't get his inhome visit, he will.
Part of me on Cook is in denial. He was out all summer recruiting for UF. It's easier for me to believe he's playing the sort of recruiting games I don't approve of. Still, the realistic side says kids will be kids. I've seen it in recruiting too much to get excited one way or the other.
On JC Jackson, with all of the rumors for so long, I'm surprised he hasn't decommitted UF already. Maybe he's playing those recruiting games I don't approve of as well. Again, my denial side is coming out. (G)

(G) Evidently the dead period takes precedence over the financial aid papers: From a general interview with Coach Golden about various topics during bowl preperation- Q: Has signing kids to financial aid agreements let you contact them more? Golden: The dead period overrides financial aid - they extended the dead period. And they're not permitting us to be at all star games this year. If they did not amend this ruling you'd have coaches at all star games and recruiting. I think we'll be able to call during the dead period if they sign, but we won't be able to go out and see them. Because that would be like the old days, you just go.

Hoops Scoop Murphy lobbying brother to UF Friday, December 13, 2013 at 12:11 by Kevin Brockway
With Alex Murphy’s decision to leave Duke due to playing time issues, the 6-foot-9 forward will have plenty of suitors.
One person who wouldn’t mind seeing Murphy follow in his footsteps at Florida his older brother, former Gators and current Chicago Bulls forward Erik Murphy.
“I would love to see him go to Florida, but it’s his decision,” Erik Murphy told SNY.tv before the Chicago Bulls played the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. “He’s going to come to the conclusion that he wants to and hopefully, it works out for him this time.”
Alex Murphy hasn’t set any visits to schools yet, but I’m told there’s mutual interest on both sides. In 2011, Florida was among Alex Murphy’s final choices before he decided to go to Durham and play for legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski. Here’s what Alex Murphy had to say about Florida at the time of his decision: “I liked the campus and I liked Coach (Billy Donovan. At the end of the day, it was the close relationship I developed with Coach K. I had a gut feeling. Talking with him last year and visiting the campus in January, I just felt so comfortable with the players and the coaches.”
A redshirt sophomore, Alex Murphy came out of high school the 15th-ranked player in the Class of 2012. He was projected as more skilled on the perimeter than his older brother and a better ball-handler. As a freshman at Duke, Murphy red-shirted due to concussion issues and played sparingly the past two seasons with the Blue Devils. But considering the uncertain status of junior center Damontre Harris, Murphy, a hybrid small/power forward, could provide much needed depth to UF’s frontcourt in the future if he chooses to transfer to Florida. The Gators will lose their entire senior starting frontline of Patric Young, Will Yeguete and Casey Prather next season.
