Friday Night Lights (FNL) is tonight. List of the top recruits that will/might be attending: Five-star defensive end Byron Cowart, five-star wide receiver George Campbell and four-star wide receiver Ryan Davis — all Tampa-area recruits — may stop by UF on their way home from visiting Florida State. Top visitors RB Ray-Ray McCloud III, 5-9, 176, Tampa Sickles RB Jacques Patrick, Orlando Timber Creek, 6-1, 224 RB T.J. Simmons, Lakeland Christian, 6-0, 205 (UCLA commit) RB Dexter Williams, Orlando West Orange, 5-11, 195 (Miami commit) Everyone seems to think Williams flipping is just a matter of time. We have two other 4 star running back commits since he committed and another that is class of 16 trying to reclassify to this year. That, along with all his family being Gators points that way despite him constantly saying our depth chart doesn't matter to him. WR George Campbell, Tarpon Springs East Lake, 6-3, 183 (maybe) WR Ryan Davis, St. Petersburg Lakewood, 5-10, 167 (maybe) TE Camrin Knight, Tallahassee Lincoln, 6-4, 225 (UF commit) OL Matthew Burrell, Woodbridge (Va.) C. D. Hylton, 6-4, 287 OL Martez Ivey, Apopka, 6-6, 270 OL Tyler Jordan, Jacksonville Bishop Kenny, 6-5, 270 (UF commit) OL Jalen Merrick, New Smyrna Beach, 6-5, 295 OL Isaiah Prince, Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt, 6-6, 270 OL Brandon Sandifer, Warner Robins (Ga.) Northside, 6-3, 332 DT Kendrick Norton, Jacksonville Trinity Christian, 6-2, 292 DT Fletcher Adams, Brandon (Miss.), 6-3, 260 DE Byron Cowart, Seffner Armwood, 6-3, 252 (maybe) DE Reggie Walker, Ponchatoula (La.), 6-3, 230 LB Jeff Holland, Jacksonville Trinity Christian, 6-1, 225 LB Te'Von Coney, Palm Beach Gardens, 6-1, 222 ATH Jalen Julius, Orlando West Orange, 5-10, 175 (UF commit)

UF's 15 DB class has been gutted by 3 decommitments this week. Either the rats are jumping off the sinking ship or the kids don't have it in them to compete. Even though UF is loaded at DB, with the negative recruiting going against UF, I think it's a little of both.
A WR also decommitted. He said he isn't a fit for UF's new offense. I think it's more about UF taking a commitment from a kid from Louisiana who is a better playmaker and plays the same position.
That's 4 decommits in one week. I'm never surprised by decommits, but I can't ever recall 4 decommits in one week.
UF is down to 7 commitments. Usually UF is 50% completed with the recruiting class after FNL and before the season starts. With UF likely taking 25-26, the 15 class is currently 6 commitments short of what they usually have by now. My guess is there is some watching and waiting going on after UF going 4-8 last season.
It's Great To Be A 4 & 8er!

Out of the 4, the one that bailed today, Lewis, is the toughest pill to swallow....that kid was real good.
UF's class hinges on the season. 10-2, Muschamp keeps his job and the Gators reel in several of the big fish that are leaning their way. 7-5 or 6-6, and Boom is probably fired and this class will be no better than average.

I agree except to say Muschamp doesn't have to go 10-2 to keep his job. If UF is out of the SEC East race prior to playing UGA, Muschamp can kiss his job goodbye. It's a HC requirement at UF that you must consistently compete for a trip to Atlanta. Just guessing, I'd say that record would be 8-4 or better. If the season is moderately successful and the coaching stable, the big time recruits will want to come to UF as they always do and even more so if they think playing time is available.

It's Great To Be A 4 & 8er! At least they decommitted early and not coming down to the wire. Recruiting has changed so much in the last ten to twenty years. Use to be when a kid committed, even a year ahead of time, that was pretty much it. It was unusual for someone to decommit and go elsewhere. Nowadays it happens all the time. Honestly, I think a lot of it has to do with the amount of negative recruiting that goes on, although some surely has to do with depth charts. As I noted a few days ago, we have four four to five star running backs committed for this year, pending Walton reclassifying to 2015, and you cannot blame kids with that much talent if they don't want to butt heads with that much competition in their own class.

I think you're right about Dexter Williams. He stated he is taking a wait and see what happens approach with UF. I don't like his attitude. He's holding a spot in the Miami class while waiting to see the developments of UF's season. I can't blame Miami for basically recruiting him out of their class. It wouldn't bother me at all if he goes to Miami or any other school not named UF.

This is a good snapshot of Gator recruiting as of 7.28.2014:
Top recruit turns down UF
By Zach Abolverdi Correspondent

Florida received a double dose of bad news on the football recruiting trail Monday.
Tampa Sickles running back Ray-Ray McCloud III pledged to Clemson over UF, while Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga cornerback Marcus Lewis decommitted from the Gators as expected.
McCloud, an Under Armour All-American who’s ranked 26th nationally by Rivals, was expected to choose Florida after visiting the school four times in the spring and summer.
The top running back target for the Gators is now Miami commit Dexter Williams of Orlando West Orange. He attended Friday Night Lights last week.
Lewis pledged to UF in April, but has since expressed concerns over the depth chart at his position.
The Gators signed five corners in February for 2014, and they also have nine underclassmen and just one senior (Jabari Gorman) in their secondary this year.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Lewis is the fourth recruit and third defensive back to decommit this month. He was the only four-star prospect to jump ship.
Athlete Jalen Julius left the class because he wants to play offense in college, wide receiver Tristan Payton said he didn’t like Florida’s new offense and safety Deontai Williams flipped to Georgia.
UF now has seven members in its 2015 class, and all appear solid at this time.

And it looks like this could work out as a trade. Reading that Lewis is speaking with Miami coaches every day and may be close to committing to Miami. I'd take that trade and be happy with it.

One WR decommits and another commits - I'm guessing TE since he's 6'4"/195. He'll be 220 in another year. After a redshirt year, he can play TE at 245:
Gators get commit from 2015 receiver Jackson

Florida's roller-coaster recruiting month continued Tuesday with a new addition to the 2015 class.
Wide receiver Kalif Jackson (6-4, 195) committed the Gators, announcing his decision on Twitter.
The three-star prospect from Neptune Beach Fletcher holds more than 20 offers, but UF is his best one and he received it Tuesday after impressing the Florida staff at Friday Night Lights last week.
The Gators now have eight pledges for 2015, and Jackson joins Derrick Dillon as the second receiver in the class.

Gator Country has Kalif Jackson already at 6'4"/220 and recruited for TE. My guess is Zach A. didn't do his homework before writing his article. He reported first, but likely not accurately.

Gators pickup excellent LB commitment:
Ga. linebacker Thomas picks Gators over Tide
By Zach Abolverdi Correspondent
Published: Friday, August 1, 2014 at 6:36 p.m.

After a string of decommitments, Florida is riding a big wave of football recruiting momentum heading into fall training camp this month.
UF received huge news Friday when linebacker Adonis Thomas committed to the Gators over Alabama during a ceremony at his high school.
The Under Armour All-American is a consensus four-star prospect and holds offers from more than 30 schools, including Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Texas.
The relentless pursuit of Florida coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin won over Thomas, as well as their defensive scheme.
“They’ve been recruiting him for the longest and harder than anybody,” said Todd Wofford, his coach at Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett.
“He’s built a great relationship with coach Muschamp and coach Durkin, and he feels like he will fit perfectly in their defense.”
Wofford said Thomas’ skill set is every defensive coach’s dream.
“He’s the type of pass rusher that everybody wants nowadays — a 6-foot-4, 220-pound kid that runs a 4.6 and can consistently get after the quarterback off the edge and then drop back in pass coverage and stick with somebody all game. He plays receiver for us, so that’s all you need to know about his athleticism.”
Over the last two weeks, UF has gained four commitments (Thomas, Kalif Jackson, Mike Horton, George Brown) and lost four commitments (Marcus Lewis, Jalen Julius, Tristan Payton, Deontai Williams).
The Gators now have 10 members in their 2015 class.
