been a while since i've been on whittier down near german village. last time i saw that marker, it was a big bear grocery store that it was in front of... which had to have been at least 10 years ago, right about when they went out of business. giant eagle moved in a couple years afterward... funny that osu would have played that game so far away from campus. ohio field, which became their home prior to the building of ohio stadium, was on the corner of high and woodruff right on campus. Working mostly from memory, isn't that fairly close to the location of the latest edition of the Buckeye HOF Café/Grill? no. the new cafe is over in grandview.

That's only about 5 miles, isn't it? (Pretty damned close compared to Phoenix) Oh, and by the way, google says that location is permanently closed.

I didn't know about anything around the airport, & we were just back there, almost a year ago now, when Sharon's mom passed away.

I've found this interesting, because it leads you in so many different directions. You read about Rob Murphy, for instance, and during that, stumble across another name or game or incident that leads in to something new. This has been fun. I WOULD like it if some of those different memories were shared here...perhaps as we get closer to the first game, we'll see more involvement.

Pretty neat...1961 game film of TSUN game...Bob Ferguson scores the first TD... LOL...got this from the notes: "The Buckeyes blanked Illinois 44-0. This was the 11th time Ohio State shut out the Illini." Add eight more... Plus five with just a FG and two with just a safety...

Greg Smith, three year letterman, selected All Big Ten at NoseGuard in 1992. Steve Luke, three year letterman. I selected Luke as the #3 today, as his first year to letter, he was a back up Center. His Junior year, he started at DB and excelled. He stayed there for his Senior year, and was drafted by the Packers in the 4th round of the 1975 draft. He made the team, and after playing every game his rookie year, became the Packers' starting Strong Safety, starting every game thru 1980. When he was traded to the Falcons just before the '81 season got under way, he decided to retire instead of moving. steve luke was a pretty cool guy. i met him in the early 90s... he'd become an agent and had at the time about 6 players he was managing (he was chris spielman's first agent as a pro). we did a story on robert smith after he quit osu's team for year, in a dispute w/his offensive coordinator and i called luke to get the angle of how pro teams might view smith in the future after this. talk about a historical legacy... the guy plays at massillon washington h.s. on a power house team (um's dennis franklin was the qb), then goes to osu under woody hayes, and he finds out he'd been drafted in the nfl by getting a call from bart starr, who'd just become the coach of the packers. luke was also probably once of the most unsung versatile players in osu history. how many guys do you know who went from playing center to playing safety??? in hs he played center, lb and te. said he just wanted to get on the field. Usually one of the first hallmarks of the great ones..."I want to PLAY and I want to help my team. Put me where you need me, coach."
