Kinda like Vrable, I think the move to LB will help in that. He was a little undersized for the D-line, and now he'll be able to go around the pile instead of being at the bottom.

Also selected as captain in 65. As the game was evolving, he was the Buckeyes' first AA at the Linebacker position, and set the standard for all that followed. Drafted and played eight years for the Eagles. He then returned to Columbus and gave that same dedication and work ethic to Worthington Industries for 35 years. He and his wife are retired in the Columbus area, and have two children and six grandchildren. Attachment DeletedRandy Gradishar, two-time selection for All Big Ten and All America Linebacker in 1972 and 73. Also selected All Big Ten in 1971. Woody called him "the finest linebacker I ever coached." In '73, he finished 6th in the Heisman voting (that year, John Cappelletti won the Heisman with a total of 1,057 points. John Hicks finished 2nd with 524, Archie finished 5th with 326, and Gradishar had 282). A real rarity, a five-year letterman. In his normal sophomore year, he was hobbled by injuries, but gamely tried to play on. He played enough to letter (4 games), but not enough to cost him his red shirt. He played with the 2s his freshman year, backing up John Kerr at the Will LB slot. A three-year starter, he is in the top 20 as far as career tackles with 288, 155 solo. He was drafted by the Vikings, and later signed by the Bucs. He graduated from HS early, and enrolled for Winter Quarter, 06 (OBVIOUSLY loved Columbus). Had been All Ohio selection three times, and led his team to Div IV title as RB and LB. VERY interesting family story, check out the link: www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/sports/college/osu-football-always-has-special-appeal-for-homan-1/nNGDR/Attachment DeletedGreg Zackeroff, four-year letterman, three year starter at RG, and with the new offense installed by Cooper, Strong side Guard. All Ohio & team captain in HS, and distant relation to HOFer, Fred Belitnikof. Attachment DeletedAnthony Schlegel (in the middle) and probably why he wasn't more recognized. A two-year starter at the Air Force Academy, he was selected as team captain there as a sophomore and was selected All Conference. After transferring, playing between A.J. Hawk and Bobby Carpenter HAD to be a kick in the crotch for his ego. He finished 2nd and 3rd on the team in tackles in his two seasons in Columbus. He played a couple of years in the NFL for the Jets & Bengals, and went to one of the other leagues. He is back at OSU as an assistant Strength & Conditioning coach (famous for his take down technique) and has his own personal fitness company.

Well, now that you mention it... 2005 S LB - Carpenter W/ 49 T.....2006 S LB - Freeman - 71 2005 MLB - Schlegel - 82 T...........2006 MLB - Laurinaitis - 115 2005 W LB - Hawk - 121 T............2006 W LB- John Kerr & Ross Homan Total tackles 58 252 244 But this played into why I was coming here in the first place...all the reading I've been doing, the sportswriters have made a big deal out of one player leading his team in tackles for three years in a row; RARE feat they claim... We've had four - Marek, Tovar, Hawk, and Laurinaitis...

A four-year letterman, noted for his assistance in the recruiting of the Brew Crew, beginning the resurgence of the O-Line as a force. Had he forgone his senior year, it was predicted he would have been the first center selected. After a poor senior year, he was an undrafted FA, and signed with the (relatively) home team Jaguars. He started his rookie year, but ended the season on injured reserve with a broken hand. The next year, he broke an ankle, and was eventually released. He then signed with the Dolphins, and is currently on the Saints taxi squad. After an outstanding HS career in Florida, he followed his big brother to Columbus. Attachment DeletedVernon Gholston, All America DE in 2007. He broke his hand in his first game against Miami (OH), and redshirted. His performance in 2006 earned him recognition as a 2nd team, All B1G Ten. In 2007, he set records with four sacks in a game (Wisconsin) and 14.5 sacks in a season, breaking Mike Vrabel's old record of 13. He declared for the draft, and lit up the combine, resulting in his selection in the first round, #6 overall, by the Jets. In three seasons with the Jets, he started five games, and never recorded a sack. He has since been signed and released by the Bears and Rams, and earlier this year, had a try out for the Redskins. Attachment DeletedJeff Davidson, All Big Ten G and team captain in 1989. He was a four-year letterman, and two-year starter. He followed his father and brother to Columbus, and he and his father became the first father-son duo to be named captains. He was drafted & played four years with the Broncos, moved to the Saints, & decided to retire after suffering a shoulder injury. After rehab attempts failed, he began coaching with the Saints, and is currently still coaching in the NFL as Offensive Line coach for the Chargers. Missed the beginning of his freshman year after an ankle injury suffered in a HS all star game, but came back & started the Cotton Bowl. Was a starter his soph year, but suffered a broken leg at Illinois in game four, ending his season. Also notable from above, Doug Datish was a four-year letterman and three year starter, selected as team captain and All Big Ten in 2006. Eric Gohlstin, three-year letterman, selected All Big Ten in 1997. Jacoby Boren, three-year letterman selected team captain in 2015. Still fresh in everyone's minds, no need to discuss the Boren story. And finally, William Henry Harrison (Tippy) Dye... WOW...I knew a little, but I'm just going to leave the Wiki link...too much to re-type, but what a great story... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tippy_Dye

Lots of talent to wear #50. Mike Stafford was a walk-on, got his chance to start his senior season. Mentioned that before the season on the old AOL football board....Evan thought if Stafford was the best RtG OSU had, the line would suck. He led the blocking to the right, took the MLB out, took the SS out off the boundary, Clarret scores his first TD of his frosh season. Broke his leg when he stepped into a gopher hole at Paul Brown Stadium on a kick-out block. Could have been the next Jim Lachey. The big fat slow f-word with huge cankles took his place, and the running game suffered a bit the rest of the year
