aolcfboutcasts.proboards.com/post/new/7120#ixzz4ErP8foOgBob Ferguson, All America selection at FB in 1960 and 61. Ferguson began his Buckeye career in 1959, behind Heisman candidate Bob White. By the end of the year, he was starting in White's place. In both '60 & 61, he was a unanimous All American selection. In '61, he also won the UPI CFB Player of the Year, and the Maxwell Award. He also finished 2nd to Ernie Davis for the Heisman. Wiki says, "Ferguson owns the distinction of never having been thrown for a loss during his college football career." However, the 1961 team/media guide says, "he...has carried 221 times, gaining 1,224 yards and losing only one..." Either way, pretty danged impressive. Ferguson was drafted by the Steelers in 62, but suffered a head injury and played 63 with the Vikings. The head injury caused him to retire from football, and he returned to Ohio State and earned a master's degree in sociology. He worked as a youth counselor in Columbus until he was forced to retire in 1990 due to health problems. Ferguson died in 2004 of complications due to diabetes. Ferguson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996, and into Ohio State's own Varsity O Hall of Fame in 1987. He was selected to the Ohio State Football All-Century Team in 2000.
Ted Provost, All Big Ten in 1968 as DHB, and an All America selection in 1969 as CB. Provost was a three-year letterman, and recognized as one of OSU's finest DBs. With the advent of the Buckeye Leaves in 1968, he soon earned the nickname of 'Teddy the Tree' from Woody Hayes as he made so many big plays for the team. He won nine letters at Fairless HS in Navarre, Ohio, and graduated from OSU's College of Engineering. He was drafted by the Rams, but traded to the Vikings, and later played for the Cardinals before going to Canada to play five years for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was inducted into the Ohio State Varsity O Hall of Fame in 2006. He was also successful after his football career, owner of Ted Provost Builders, a construction company in Hilliard, Ohio.
Tim Spencer, All Big Ten selection at TB in 1981 and 82. Called by the some the perfect combination of speed and power, he rushed for a total of 3,553 yards, still #4 on the career rushing list. He was selected team captain & MVP in '82. After opting to go with the USFL, where he played three years, he ended his playing career after five years with the Chargers. In 1994, Spencer returned to Ohio State to be their running backs coach, a position he held until 2003. On January 27, 2004, he became the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears until 2013. He then joined Lovie Smith's staff at Tampa Bay for the 2014 Season and remains there.
He was inducted into the Men's Varsity "O" Hall of Fame in 1997.
Steve Luke was selected as a All Big Ten CB in 1974.
Other noteworthy names include Bob Bond, Earle Bruce, Marlon Kerner, and Donald Steinberg, who lettered in 1942, went to war, and then returned to letter again in 1945. After his graduation in 1946, Steinberg went on to become a surgeon.
