Mark (Bo) Pellini- Better known as a coach than player, but was a 2 1/2 year starter and team captain. missed a tackle deep on the kickoff, didn't cover the TE on the throw to the endzone in 1988. fucked us twice in the last minute of that game. was the DC for LSU in 07..........fucked us yet again. Was HC for Nebackdoor in '11. f-word him There were more than a few people who would have been happy to have had him in Columbus this past go around... (I wasn't one of them)...

that's run by the athletic dept. doesn't have anything to do with the alumni club nor the academic side of the university. Another example...Look at the ring of retired/honored jerseys around the stadium...Think about those people a minute...now go to the archives on the site, or the media guide...tomorrow's number is 47. Guess who is NOT listed as having worn that number... players didn't wear jerseys with numbers consistently back in harley's day, and when they did they often wore different numbers for different games. i thought the story was that osu found a pic of harley his senior year wearing 47 (they didn't have many of him wearing a numbered jersey) and used that as the reason for attaching that number to him. might be mistaken on that....if there's a different storyline on that i'm all ears.

Why wouldn't the coaches call another play with kolesar right at numb-nuts again?

But sort of what you see now for flag football or intramurals...a bagful of uniforms, everybody grab one.

Harley won All-America honors as a running back in 1916 and ’17. He spent 1918 in the military but then returned to OSU in 1919 and picked up where he had left off, again winning All-America acclaim. In addition to running the football, he also punted, kicked extra points (he used the drop kick) and played defense. Fans turned out in record numbers to watch Harley play. Harley led the Buckeyes to their first Big Ten title in 1916, a repeat championship in 1917 and a second-place finish in 1919. In 1919, he was named team captain. During his three seasons at Ohio State, the Buckeyes posted a combined record of 21-1-1. The Buckeyes played at old Ohio Field during the Harley era. But largely because of his play, Ohio Stadium was built in 1922 and has been known as the “House that Harley built.” His jersey number 47 was retired in 2004. A. J. Hawk capped a brilliant senior year by becoming Ohio State’s fifth Lombardi Award winner, presented annually since 1970 to the best player in college football who lines up within five yards of the snap. The 6-1, 247-pound Hawk finished the 2005 campaign with a teamhigh 121 tackles, marking the third consecutive year he had paced the Buckeyes in that category. His tackle totals included 16.5 tacklesfor-loss and 9.5 sacks, both best on the team. In addition to the Lombardi Award, Hawk was the 2005 Big Ten preseason and post-season Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive MVP of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. A first-team All-American both as a junior and senior, Hawk closed his career as the fifth leading tackler in Ohio State history with 494 career stops, 41 tackles-for-loss and 9.5 sacks. His 141 tackles in 2004 were the most by an Ohio State player since 1986. Hawk led the team in tackles in 10 of 12 games in 2005, including a season-high 19 stops against Michigan State. A four-year letterman, Hawk was elected co-captain as a senior, receiving a vote from every player on the team except for himself. Players like A. J. Hawk don’t come along very often. His intensity and passion for the game made him special. His long blond locks flowing out from beneath his helmet in tribute to the late Pat Tillman, he was literally all over the field making plays and encouraging his teammates. The 2005 Ohio State defense was one of the most formidable in the nation, leading the Big Ten in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense and sacks. Needless to say, Hawk played a huge role in that success. Following the season, Hawk was the fifth player taken in the 2006 NFL draft, going to the Green Bay Packers. Theodore "Ted" Rosequist was selected All America in 1932, and played for the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Rams in the NFL. Doug Donely was All Big Ten in 1979 and 1980. Dan Stultz was All Big Ten in 2000. Based on the above list, Ohio State and the family of Bennie Espy should SUE BSPiN for the awards they give out each year. Ohio State had its own Espy almost 20 years before that Entertainment Network even came into existence...

Ohio State had its own Espy almost 20 years before that Entertainment Network even came into existence... doug donley was nick-named 'white lightning' during his days catching passes from art schlichter. the guy ran a 4.3 40. his speed wasn't in question. he averaged over 20 yds/catch during his osu career w/a chronic shoulder problem that shortened his pro career (4 yrs in dallas). he had a great game in my first-ever rose bowl trip back on 1/1/80 (100+ yds receiving) in that 17-16 loss to usc... after actually breaking his finger during warmups. he and gary williams were, maybe, the first truly great tandem of wr's osu ever had (and actually threw to... bruce jankowski and jan white were great but rarely saw many passes) and check this out about what happened when woody went to cambridge to recruit doug, well, per usual, actually recruit the recruit's parents... and what rival coach called during his visit... this from a interview last year w/eleven warriors...
What was your recruitment like with Woody Hayes running the show?
DD: "Woody came to our basketball practice. All the kids knew that he was there and it was our most intense practice ever. The players were diving for balls and hustling like they'd never hustled before. Our basketball coach was like, "Man, where did these guys come from?"
"I called my mom and said, "Woody's coming to dinner so have something good for dinner." Woody and assistant coach Alex Gibbs came to my house. Woody sat around and talked to us and didn't mention football for the whole time. He was just talking about getting an education, and family, and all the things parents want to hear about—and it was all sincere. The funny thing is the phone rang and my mom, for some reason, she answered it. She said, "Doug, you may want to take this in the back bedroom."
I felt kind of uncomfortable leaving the dinner table but I did and it was Coach Schembechler calling from Michigan. It wasn't Woody's first rodeo. I sat down and he said, "Who was that on the phone?" I looked at him, and I knew how he felt about Michigan, and I said, "Well, that was Coach Schembechler." And he stood up, and put his hand in my face, and said, "I want a handshake and a verbal commitment that you're coming to Ohio State."
What did you do then?
DD: "At that time I was still seriously considering Michigan and Notre Dame. But Woody was standing over top of me with his hand right there in front of my chin. What was I going to do, tell him to go sit down? I stuck my hand out and shook his hand. That's how I made my decision on where I was going to college."
What do you remember about your arrival in Columbus and the transition from small town to huge campus?
DD: "I was very naive and green. I was sheltered living in Cambridge. When I came to Ohio State I was just in awe. It was overwhelming to come in and see the players like Doug Mackie and some of these linemen who were just massive. It was surreal coming down that tunnel the first time. It's a cliche, but I don't feel like my feet ever touched the ground. I felt like I was floating coming down that tunnel for the first time, and really every time. It was just incredible."
More receivers should wear numbers in the 40s. Bo tried to poach Donley from Woody. And it had to be incredible being there during the Woody Hayes era.
DD: "You just had to be in awe of Woody every meeting. He'd get us up at six o'clock in the morning and we'd have a word power class, trying to increase our vocabulary. He'd go to class with us."
Unfortunately, you were there for Woody's final days as Ohio State's head coach. Did you see what happened on the sideline that night in the Gator Bowl?
DD: "I was the intended receiver on that play. I was in the corner of the end zone, wide open, waving my arms. I realized it was an interception. I saw the commotion. I was walking from the end zone down the sideline and I said, "What happened?" And somebody said, "Woody hit somebody." And I said, "So what? What's the big deal? He hits somebody every day at practice." So they said, "No, a guy from the other team."
"I still didn't think much about it. After the game, Woody got us in a huddle and kind of told us a story as to why all that happened. He said (Charlie Bauman's ancestor) killed his great, great grandfather in the Civil War. And he said that's why he punched him. He had it coming. We all kind of looked at each other like, "Wow."
I can honestly say that's a story I've never heard. What happened after that?
DD: "We got on the plane and flew back to Columbus and when we landed Woody got on the intercom on the plane and said, "I'm sorry to announce I'm no longer the football coach at Ohio State University," and hung up the mic and walked off the plane. Nobody said a word. I think guys sat on that plane for an hour, in shock, nobody talking. Finally one guy got up and filed out and we left. We were all in shock."how do you like that?? lol. the story about woody's reasoning for punching charlie bauman was also a new one i'd never heard before. here's another donley story.... i had a girl friend (well, not a girlfriend... a friend who was a girl) who i met in the dorm next door on north campus (blackburn, next to where i lived at haverfield). we stayed friends after moving to apartments, and her roommates threw her a 21st birthday party. by the time i got there lisa was already 3 sheets to the wind and extremely happy. in the past she'd expressed her crush on one doug donley, but in her drunken state, when i asked her what she wanted, and she sighed 'doug'. uh, ok. i was hoping for 'mark', but i then had a light bulb moment. at the time osu had a student phone book, i looked for donley and there was his number. so i called him... and he answered. it sounded like he'd been drinking as much as lisa had. i told him my name, said i know you don't know me, i have a friend who's turning 21 tonite who's always liked you, we're having a pretty big bash for her, gave him the address, and said it's be cool if you came over. he said maybe, i said cool, hung up, went back to drinking and me and my buddies got a pretty good laugh about it. completely forgot about it. it's about 90 minutes later... i'm talking to 2 other girls not named lisa who seem to be a little more interested in me than some unreachable osu football player, when i hear 'is there a mark scott here?' from some guy at the front door. everybody points at me... i walk to the door, and it's doug donley. shit-faced. he couldn't remember lisa's name, but had written mine above the address so i guess he thought it was my apartment. in my own state of advancing inebriation, i could not stop laughing. he actually showed up. that was one surprise. the other was that he wasn't that much bigger than i was. he asked me if the birthday girl was still there... i said i hope so... this is her place... found lisa... and became a drunk student introducing a 2nd drunk student to a 3rd drunk student. i never asked lisa how the night went... i doubt if she would have remembered... but one of the girl's i was talking to, some girl named jamie... she became very impressed that i 'knew' a football player and that he came over to the party because i invited him. i ended up having a really good night. and i have doug donley to thank for that. if i ever see him again, i will. i do know he didn't end up marrying lisa. instead 'settling' for some dallas cowboys cheerleader.
