I'm surprised he waited so long. There was beginning to be a lot of speculation that he would return to take another shot at the championship. Obviously from his open letter to Buckeye Nation via twitter, he was undecided & torn earlier. Also, Tyquan Lewis confirmed he's returning... Also, Ohio State has announced they've hired Ryan Crow as Ass't LB coach.

If you look at Ryan Day's wiki entry, at the bottom of the page, there's a list of current NFL QB coaches. I was pleasantly surprised, when checking the names/entries, by the high percentage of Ohio natives on that list. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Day_(American_football)

historically tosu has rarely gone the junior college route, but today they plucked an ex-5 star recruit, cb kendall sheffield, from blinn college in texas. on the heels of the okudah commit, and w/conley and hooker gone, lattimore likely soon to follow, this is welcome news. sheffield was an alabama commit in '15. chose osu over texas a&m. both sheffield and okudah are expected to enroll winter semester and be in classes next week, to qualify to take part in spring practice.

the much-rumored addition of ex-iu head coach kevin wilson as tosu's new offensive coordinator has happened. but it means ed warinner is out. i thought he'd be retained on the staff and go back to his previous role as offensive line coach, in which he's been extremely successful. but w/greg studrawa entrenched in that role now here, warinner's going to minnesota in that o-line role under p.j. fleck. wilson will also be responsible for tight ends. his oc pedigree, at oklahoma and then indiana, is well-documented. iu actually led the big 10 in scoring and total offense in '15. i like the wilson hire, but i hate seeing warinner move on. the o-line's he developed/nurtured from '12-'15 were among the best in school history. i wish him much success.

the o-line's he developed/nurtured from '12-'15 were among the best in school history. i wish him much success. yer awfully young, youngun the improvement from 2011, the year before warinner arrived, to 2012 was pronounced. c-corey linsley g-andrew norwell, marcus hall t-reid fragel, jack mewhort only fragel was a senior that season. of that group only hall and linsley started in '11 (fragel was a backup te). osu went from 191 yds/game rushing in '11, to 242/game behind this group. the only senior, fragel, went to the nfl. he's bounced around to 6 teams but was just signed last week by the vikings. 2013 c-linsley f-norwell, hall t-mewhort, taylor decker decker was the newcomer, a true sophomore. all the others were now seniors. this group improved the rushing totals from 242/game to 308/game. john hicks himself compared the '13 line to his in '73 (355/game, still the record) and the '95 unit led by orlando pace. linsley walked right into the packers as a starter, and is still there. ditto for norwell at carolina, and mewhort w/the colts. 2014 c-jacoby boren g-pat elflein, billy price t-decker, darryl baldwin 80% of last year's unit graduates, and yet tosu wins a national title. 264/game rushing. growing pains early in the season, gaining just 108 on the ground vs va tech. by season's end? 233 on 39 carries (6.0/att) vs um, 301/38 (7.9/carry) vs uw, 281/42 (6.7/carry) vs alabama, 296/61 (4.9/carry) vs oregon. i repeat; warinner took 4 new faces (one of them, price, a redshirt freshman. elflein a soph) filling spots filled by 3 guys who all are currently nfl starters, and by year's end had them average 293/game on the ground vs 3 of the best teams in the country. 2015 c-boren g-elflein, price t-decker, chase farris this was the last season warinner had direct responsibility for the o-line, along w/adding co-offensive coordinator to the title. 4 returning starters, and 3 seniors (decker, boren, farris). the entire offense backed up some in terms of total yards, and the ground game did 245/contest. but it finished strong after the upset loss to sparty; 369 of 54 carries (6.8/att) vs um, 285 on 54 carries (5.3/att) vs nd. decker is now a starter w/the lions. boren was, unfortunately, too small for the nfl despite his talent. farris is currently on the practice squad with the patriots. elflein this year was a 1st team all-american and big 10 o-lineman of the year. twice in 4 years, warinner had to mold a unit w/60%+ new starters. the '13 group was one of osu's all-timers. he was outstanding in that role.

He had a 5 year contract with the university, not the athletic dept. Nor was his salary paid by the ath dept. When Meyer came in, Meyer wanted him gone, but only the university could "can" him. Meyer hired several people over his short time here to be "co defensive coordinator" His 5 year contract expired 12-31-16, Meyer/Smith "pushed" the university to not extend the contract. that is news to me. as for the 'co' title, meyer had co-coordinators on the offensive side of the ball too, including this year (warriner/beck) so i'm not sure how that indicates opening the door to leave. if you have verification that fickell's salary came from any source other than the athletic dept, i'd love to see it. Crickets.
