Just found out that a friend of the family was accepted to FSU as a preferred walk-on. Justin Motlow from Tampa Catholic, 5'11" WR is his name and if he makes the team, he will be the first member of the Seminole tribe to play football at Florida State. That's a pretty cool distinction, I would say. I hope he does well.

Aren't preferred walk-on's guaranteed a spot on the roster? Not sure, actually. The "preferred walk-on" was new to me but if that means he is on the team, all the better!

He doesn't count against the 85 cap until he receives a ship. Being preferred means he'll likely get one at some future time. He'll have to earn it in practice. He probably eligible for some team benefits.

We have at least three preferred walkons coming in the fall. From what has been explained on the Miami sites, they may earn a future scholarship, but there is no guarantee. They are guaranteed a spot on the roster just as a scholarship player is, and they are given everything a scholarship player receives except the tuition, room , etc. Preferred walkons are more important at schools like Miami simply due to the tuition expense. A year at FSU is what, about $8000 or so? Comparatively a year at Miami is minimum $40K. So having good players whose families can afford to send them and pay their own way is a big plus, especially now when we have the loss of a few scholarships to deal with.

He is a tribal member so tuition is paid for. That's is a good deal for tribe members. I understand that certified tribe members also receive a check from the tribe from their casino earnings every month. Not sure if that is true or not. I have some family members who use to get the tribal benefits in Oklahoma from the Cherokee tribe. I was actually qualified to gain entry to school with preferred status due to my Cherokee blood but never pursued it. I guess I may have had I needed help getting in but honestly, I qualify due to a great grandparent that was full blooded Cherokee and I never took any interest in it. I have a first cousin who actually took a Cherokee name, studied and is fluent in the language and moved west and worked for years as a tribal medicine man, even though she is a woman.

I understand that certified tribe members also receive a check from the tribe from their casino earnings every month. Not sure if that is true or not. Definitely true. They recently revamped the dividends process due to so many squandering the money away or using it for drugs, etc. but it is definitely still in place. They used to get a flat amount per month, per tribal member but after the changes I don't believe they receive their full dividends until they are 21. If they have a criminal record or fail a drug test, etc. they have to stay out of trouble for a certain period of time before they receive them. Something along those lines. I know they used to have their housing subsidized as well, which on top of the monthly dividends, made for a pretty nice living for those that had a good paying job on top of it. I worked for the tribe for 9 years and saw some of the abuse that prompted the changes but I also worked with an awful lot of hard-working tribal members that weren't out to take advantage of the situation. Still good friends with a number of tribal members actually, including Justin's family.

Fsu interested in middle schooler. I think a couple of years ago BAMA and Lsu both went after a young kid like thisIt wasn't long ago that eighth-grader Rashad Williams of Charlotte, N.C. found out that he'd be attending West Mecklenburg High in the fall. A fairly typical revelation in the life of a middle schooler. But after his football highlight video — a professionally produced compilation of Williams' best plays from a 14-and-under team — found its way to the next level, Williams soon discovered that the Florida State Seminoles are interested in him. Rashad's father Hilton Williams was simply stunned when Brenson Bruckner, a former Carolina Panther who played for Sal Sunseri (now Florida State's defensive ends coach), contacted the Williams family to say that Sunseri and FSU were impressed by Rashad's footwork. “It is unbelievable,” the 5-foot-7, 150-pound running back told 247Sports Wednesday. “I didn’t expect to get recruited at this age. I thought maybe it (would) happen by my junior or senior year.” The 13-year-old Williams will get a chance to visit the national champs on campus when Florida State's Junior Day takes place on March 1. There, he'll get a chance to meet the players and perhaps talk to Jameis Winston about the Seminole experience. Then, he'll return to Charlotte to finish middle school. sports.yahoo.com/blogs/yahoo-sports-minute/florida-state-recruiting-kid-middle-school-080407249.html?vp=1

Noel Devine was the same way. We started seeing video of him online when he was in 6th or 7th grade and was a recruitniks legend for years.

Interview on Fox and Friends with Bobby Bowden and his new book. It's a touch preachy for me, but Bobby's a good man, and the message is in the right place. And he's rockin' a fantastic tie... link
