Defensive tackle Clark picks Gators

Florida received a verbal commitment Saturday from U.S. Army All-American defensive tackle Khairi Clark of Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in Hollywood.


"Just committed to the University of Florida," Clark wrote on his Twitter account Saturday.

Clark is a 6-foot-2, 325-pounder and on ESPN's top 150 list. He is also listed as a four-star recruit on Rivals.com.

He is the 11th verbal commitment, which are non-binding until a player signs a national letter of intent, in Florida's 2014 class.

Very surprising. Everything I have ever read on Clark had him as a strong Miami lean. For some reason we have not had much luck pulling DT's in South Florida lately. I notice Golden is offering a lot of DT's from all over the country now, I assume to counter this. Best of luck to young Mr. Clark.

UF has two south Florida DTs committed for the 14 class. Both would have been Miami in the past. I can't help thinking the unresolved Miami issues with the NCAA is working in UF's favor.

Without a doubt the whole Shapiro thing and the negative recruiting associated has made it tougher, but it is strange that it seems to really only affect on position, DT. I have heard various theories on this. The last five star DT we signed out of the tri-county area was Forston and most would consider him a bust. The defense that Miami runs currently prefers big run stopper DT's who can hold position and allow the linebackers to clean up, and a lot of these south Florida kids want to play penetrate and rush the passer even from the DT spot. Might be something to that. Currently we have taken to working on DT's from outside the state and frankly, as long as they sign two to three big guys every year, I don't care where they come from. It will be interesting to see if things change once our penalty is announced.

Any word on when that might be? At this point, the NCAA needs to shit or get off the pot with a strong emphasis on the latter after the way they have screwed the whole thing up.

Word is they think they will push to have it out six weeks after the end of the hearing. Most of us are so tired of all the BS at this point we just want the whole thing over and done with. That it has taken this long is ridiculous and finding out the lengths the NCAA was willing to go to, bending their own rules trying to stick it to us really pissed most of us, fans, off.

Lots of rumors swirling regarding the NCAA right now. In the last week we have had Joe Schad saying he has heard the report won't come out until sometime during the season. Another report says the NCAA leaked that they would like to release their final report around August 8 and then last night Tony Barnhart says he has sources who say it will come any day now. With all the heat they have taken for allowing this investigation to go on for so long I cannot believe they would allow it to continue into the season. There seems to be a ton of optimism regarding the team this year and recruiting certainly appears the kids are beginning to believe it is over. Practice for the Canes starts Saturday morning. I can feel it coming in the air tonight.

My hope is Miami gets distracted by the NCAA at least through game 2 of the season.

Will ND be a conference game or ooc game based on their relationship with the ACC they've entered into? Either way it will be a tough schedule having ND, NU, FSU all in the same season.
