Well, that'll be the end of that. USC finally looked like USC. The D, once again played lights out but more importantly, the O was in sync. Yeah, it was just BC, but USC struggled against, "It's just Hawaii" and "It's just Wazzu", so this was a big step forward IMO. 500+ yards of total offense and domination in the run game, over 250 yards on the ground.
Whew!! I admit that it was gettin' a little hard to breathe with the paper bag over my head all last week.

....and the hits just keep on coming. Started MLB Lamar Dawson tweeked a knee in practice and is done for the season.
One of the walk-ons I can't even name was injured and will miss the game against UTAH.
This is becoming a nightmare of a season. USC will be starting three guys I've never heard of on defense Saturday.

I feel for you Walt. SC has it doubly bad with ship restrictions and injuries. The light would be at the end of the tunnel had SC not appealed the penalties. One more season of this (14), a season to recover (15), and SC will be back on the prowl again in 2016.

...and more... backup olineman Jordan Simmons, Algholor, DE Morgan Breslin and some walk-on I never heard of, out for UTAH. Okay.....This is just getting crazy now...
One can't quite dismiss the idea that player safety is a factor in the apparent coincidence of scholarship reductions and injuries...as they used to tell me on the ski slopes, Fatigue matters. More injuries occur on the last run of the day than any other time.

Is SC capable of having two straight sub .500 seasons?

Is SC capable of having two straight sub .500 seasons? If this injury bug continues, absolutely. You don't win many games when you aren't even two deep at all the positions.

WE WIN !! Who knew?
Wow...a bunch of really young, green kids stepped up and played big today. Given how thin the team was, this is an impressive win.

There's a rumor going around here in LA that if USC beats Stanford, that Haden will offer the job to Coach O shortly thereafter to ensure continuity with recruiting. Meanwhile, Coach O has said he's going to re-recruit some of the kids he's seen in the past that have verbals to other teams, so put the two stories together and it seems like SOMETHING is up...

Coach O will have the shelf stocked for the next guy if he can't get the job done on the field. He could be USC's Ron Zook.

Ron Zook was an outstanding recruiter. He was able to produce some amazing wins, Georgia's only loss in the 04 season, national champion LSU's only loss in 2003, and at FSU in 04 to end his career with UF after Steve Spurrier never got a win in Tallahassee. It's why we Gators call Bobby Bowden Field Ron Zook Field as UF won on the day FSU honored Bowden with naming the field after him.
He was also involved in some off the field stuff and produced more than his share of bad losses including an ugly loss at Mississippi State that cost him his job.
Bottom line, he wasn't able to produce elite status results with UF. We all know Coach O can recruit, but can he get elite status production with SC. That will have to be determined by his level of production presuming he gets the permanent HC opportunity. If he can't, he'll leave the shelves well stocked for the next coach. Urban Meyer's 06 national championship team was comprised mostly of players recruited by Ron Zook.
This wasn't meant to be an insult or a compliment. To me, SC is taking a chance on Coach O. They may be doing it because there are still two reduced recruiting classes coming up and there can't be any mistakes in player evaluations and results. They may be doing it because they can't get a top name coach to come at this time.
