Trojans picked up two more commits, two 4 stars on D, a DB that had been headed to UDub and a DE Juco transfer. USC has some high quality pickups even though they don't have many. Still waiting for that second OLineman, Mama.

Looks like Silas Redd's college career is over:
Silas Redd likely to miss bowl game
Updated: December 14, 2013, 6:45 PM ET
By Garry Paskwietz | ESPN.com
LOS ANGELES -- USC senior tailback Silas Redd will likely miss the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl because of a knee injury.
Redd suffered the original injury to his right knee after landing awkwardly at the end of a run against Cal on Nov. 9. He sat out games against Stanford and Colorado before returning against UCLA with five carries for 25 yards.
The Trojans had hoped to get Redd back for next Saturday's bowl game against Fresno State, but interim coach Clay Helton said that scenario is unlikely.
"Silas' knee is probably worse than expected, so we don't think he's going to make it right now," Helton said after the Saturday practice with Redd watching from the sidelines in sweatpants.
It has been an injury-plagued year for Redd. In addition to the current injury, he also missed the first five games of the season after an injury to his left knee in spring ball.
If he misses the bowl game, Redd will finish the 2013 season with 376 yards on 81 carries with one touchdown.
Redd transferred to USC from Penn State before the 2012 season after sanctions against the Nittany Lions were handed down. He led the Trojans in rushing in 2012 with 905 yards on 167 carries and nine touchdowns.

Walter, rumor has it that Clay Helton will be announced as UF's new OC once he gets his interim HC duty done at SC's bowl game. His father, Kim Helton, played and coached at UF. Clay was born in Gainesville while his dad was working for Doug Dickey in the 70s.

Word is unofficial, but Sark basically said as much this morning. Though I have no doubt that Coach O will do well and get an HC job for next year, he and a good number of the Kiffin coaches would likely have remained. Pendergrast as DC may remain Baxter as special teams may remain. Tee Martin has already been announced as being retained as WR coach. Helton as OC virtually has been announced as being retained. USC ends with a 10 win season, after all the probation and coaching turmoil. Pretty amazing feat, if you ask me. SC players had zero to play for but their own pride yesterday, and they cleaned FresnoSt's clock. FSU players, in general, always have a chip on their shoulders about being disrespected, as most are signed after the Pac schools pass on them....Post game comments on radio seemed to indicate that some FSU players were talking some doo-doo about how their team was now the more dominant California team early in the game. ah.......not so much...

Clay was born in Gainesville while his dad was working for Doug Dickey in the 70s. Helton, just like 3 or 4 others, used the pitiful Lizards to get a nice raise. Why would he want to take a job that would just tarnish his image? Next year he'll be an HC somewhere.

Next year he'll be an HC somewhere.Helton may have just been saying all the right things, but in an interview this morning, he seemed pretty definite about the notion the staff had about "unfinished business" as it regarded building the program back, post probation. Sounded like he wanted to hang around to see it. 'Course, you always say stuff like that when you're saving your job, but in his interview, and in post game interviews on radio last night with a few of the players, it seems as though this "Fight On!" mentality has sunk in as it regards probation. One kid even went so far as to say, "We are all about, "FIGHT ON! We are doing what the cheer is all about.", so that "us against the world" thing is definitely driving the group, and perhaps Helton bought in as well...or like you say....a fat raise didn't hurt.

Sark is dumping his UDub OC for Helton? Something seems strange with this news.
SC had a good season. 10-4 with the coaching changes and ship reductions is beyond expectations.
There are rumors coming out of Gainesville that Muschamp and Kiffen have mutual interest for Kiffen as UF's OC. Apparently, due to Kiffen's mouth calling Urban Meyer a cheater and Kiffen allowing an SC player to falsely charge UF with player tampering (think it was RB Dillon Baxter), Jeremy Foley and Bernie Machen are frowning on Muschamp hiring Kiffen. If I'm Muschamp, I'd hire Kiffen since without good results this would be my last rodeo with UF.

Most impressive performance of the day. I thought Fresno would be able to move the ball on sc's secondary, and the Trojans were air tight when it counted. '14 should be a pretty interesting year. Congrats on the win. Mark Scott Tosu '81

Very good year for USC....10 wins is pretty impressive. Agree, damn impressive. Won't be long before .................. they'll be competing for the top prize. There are some guys in that USC front seven who look like future NFL All Pros to me. In fact, I was surprised that UCLA beat the Trojans at the end of the year-- although Hundley and some of the Bruins also look like top notch NFL prospects...

Interesting to ponder...
Just noticed that USC has just 53 scholarship players right now. That's bad enough. Add to that the current freshman class has only 6 players. SIX. The current sophomore class has just 13.
That means the '16 team will have 61 underclassmen, and that assumes no attrition at all in two seasons. That's just crazy....

Just noticed this arrived before you responded...actually, probably simultaneously. So here's the question. If there happens to be large attrition, could USC sign, say, 40 players if they had slots for them in 16? Sounds crazy, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

14: can sign up to 18 so long as 3 are early enrollees counting back to 2013 when signed 12 15: can sign 25 coming out from under ship reductions plus the number less than 18 signed in 14 as EEs if doesn't sign 18 16: can sign 25
I don't think SC can sign 40 just because they are below the 85 limit. Having reduced rosters until annual recruiting catches up is part of the ship reductions and penalty process.
Ten ships reduction a year over 3 years was huge. SC will put together good seasons, but reduced rosters will likely keep them from the top of college football until the roster size gets back to the upper 70s to 85 max range.

I must say that every single word you have written in the past few years about USC and the sanctions have been, regrettably, dead on. As I survey the last and next few seasons, I begin to wonder what the heck either Kiffin or Sarkisian was thinking when they took the job... Mark it on your calendar. The 2nd Annual USC Spring Dance, held over the top of Paul Dee's grave, is scheduled for the April 1. The Hallelujah Choir will be performing.
