ND has a habit of not scheduling teams that regularly beats their ass.
Notre Dame first played football in 1887. Ohio State started in 1890. In 127 years, the teams have met SIX times, and THAT's the best excuse you can make???
LMAO. n-word, PLEASE.
They scheduled OSU in 95 and 96 with the expectations of winning both. They haven't scheduled since. They can't duck Bowls as they once did. between 35/36 and 95/96 Notre Dame had this annoying habit of demanding the lion's share of the gate even at away games, claiming to be the team that draws the fans in. The expansion of TV money starting in the 80's changed the landscape via revenue and ND then was able to schedule more teams being able to pay their demands.
Well, college football IS all about money, right?
Well, college football IS all about money, right?
the story here why the two never agreed to a series, at least during woody's days, was that he didn't want to split the catholic community in ohio, who he surmised were fans of both programs. true? you got me. at least one columbus radio station has carried notre dame football here as long as i can remember. i don't remember earle feeling one way or the other about playing the irish, but cooper made his feelings known. the '95-'96 games had been scheduled while bruce was coach, and by the time coop arrived, the big 10 was making a pretty big push for a 12th member, after penn state joined in '93. cooper was against playing them if they were unwilling to join the conference, and that sentiment has plenty of company amongst buckeye fans, despite the fact that the two will play again in 2022-23. that said, that '95 game crowd/atmosphere, for the 1st game played between the schools in 60 years, was one of the most electric i've ever seen. so there are plenty of people who like the matchup, too. osu led the nation in attendance for about 20 straight years, mid 50s thru the early/mid 70s, despite never having the largest college stadium, so they certainly didn't need notre dame to bring fans to the shoe. also wasn't a case of the program avoiding strong ooc competition. during that stretch. part of it was also notre dame already having long-standing series w/purdue, michigan state, and after an interruption of 30 years, michigan back in the late 70s. there's never been real interest from south bend either about establishing a longer running series. it is odd for a couple historic programs 4 hours apart to have not played more.

LSU has played ND more times than Ohio State has. Odd considering their geographical proximity.
ND has a habit of not scheduling teams that regularly beats their ass.
tOSU has a habit of not scheduling top tier SEC and FSU as they get their ass beat way more often than not, can't say regularly with so few games the bucknuts are willing to schedule. The bucknuts won't go where they know it's a high likelihood that they will get spanked on their opponents home field. Playing the SEC to the bucknuts is scheduling Vanderbilt. (chuckle)

The last time flarder went north of I-10, they got their asses handed to 'em

Urban Meyer vs. Dan Mullen would be an easy season opening game somewhere or home and home to set up if only tOSU would do it. Your ex-scheduler was open and honest about tOSU choosing to avoid playing the SEC. As I recall, cbisbig brought us that eye opening article sometime last spring or summer. Combine that article with the comments from the asshole LSU AD that BIG programs don't won't to come to SEC country and get spanked on their opponents home field = the bucknuts 100%.

When Florida travels 1/10th of that. Call me. What part of tOSU won't schedule top tier SEC or FSU did you not understand?
Just as soon as a top tier sEC team decides it wants to venture out of the south, Obvious LSU isn't a top tier, as they do, will, have. how soon will a bottom tier sEC team figure out how to beat michigan.......... anywhere?

Wow. I made a statement that Arden Key won't play vs Notre Dame in the Citrus Bowl, and the thread deteriorates into Buckeye bashing.
Thanks to Mark for offering an explanation of why OSU and ND haven't played more often. I don't know how factual it is, but it makes sense to me. I was curious about the few games the teams have played against each other, and I'm OK with the explanation.
For the heck of it, I'll restate that I have nothing against Ohio State, and I can't stand Notre Dame.
