i'm not sure how to explain how crippling one of the universities greatest asset's while blaming "hero worship" and the "university culture" is harmful to students, alumni and all fans. Sigh. Ihs, i feel sorry for you. The football experience has not been taken away from students, alums, former players, vendors. You really need to take a breath here. The stadium was still there, games were still played last year. If students and other fans chose to stay away instead of attending, or supporting their school, now you say the NCAA is to blame for that too??? Again, sigh. Mark Scott Tosu 81 when the ncaa allowed players to transfer anywhere w/o penalty, the ncaa was attempting to end penn state football as we all know it. that's a fact. penn state was not supposed to field a competitive team. mark emmert even admitted in his glory media tour where he got to brag how great he was the few days after his press conference that the sanctions were designed to put penn state at an incredible competitive disadvantage. combine with the transfer waiver, the scholarship reductions and bowl bans were the ncaa's attempt at making penn state a fcs level school. this changes the football experience. yes, we still play the games. and fortunately, we've been able to exceed everyone's expectations (thus far), but please don't try to sell me that the mere fact that football is still being played means nothing has changed.

Really? The NCAA wanted to end Psu football? Well they must have had it out to end OSU football too, because when the one year bowl ban came down any player could have transferred w/o penalty. It's happened to many programs before that too. Players were allowed to leave schools in trouble w the NCAA prior to psu's woes. You need to stop your martyr complex about this. Unprecedented? Absolutely. Over the top? Maybe but psu agreed that it was just. I didn't say nothing has changed. I said they're still playing football. That students weren't damaged by not being able to attend games as you claimed. You need to get out more and get some perspective on this beyond mt nittany. Mark Scott Tosu 81

Mark Scott Tosu 81 i said ncaa wanted to end psu "as we know it." correct me if i'm wrong, but i think only the ohio state seniors were allowed to leave w/o penalty and i don't think it's a common punishment at all. i can't recall any other time besides smu that an entire team was allowed to transfer w/ no penalty. i never claimed students were damaged by not being able to attend games. i said a student's college experience was impacted by the blaming of university culture for enabling a pedophile. a students college experience is damaged when a great source of pride for the university is crippled.

Actually, based only on my recollection, allowing players to transfer free and clear after a school is put on probation has been SOP for a long time. I think it started when SMU was put on Death Row. When the NCAA allows it depends on severity of penalties and timing (e. g. penalties are levied right after signing day), it's hardly unprecedented.
