Armed or unarmed? Are you planning to have an unfortunate chipper accident between now and then?? If not I would say bring your arms. You'll need them to hold our guns when we go shooting. Sounds like a deal.

I paid $319 brand new for the 44V in 1986 from PV Ranch and Feed in Petaluma, CA. The 8" barrel/shroud will cost me nearly that much if I win Eric's auction. They were quite affordable back in the day. I always liked the Pythonish look of the VH barrels myself. IIRC, I paid $425 for my S&W 645 that same year.

My buddy had the 357 stainless pistol pack with all the barrels, the heavies. Damn, that whole package was nice. We all went camping on the south fork of the Yuba River one year and when we got back it had been stolen along with other items from his house. That really sucked.

Paid $475 for the P226 that same year. Even the SEALS are dumping the P226 in favor of the Glock 19. Bad news because it is might drive up Glock prices.

Trust me, it's all you will need for any self defense situation. Carry an extra mag and you could fight off a street gang if need be.

No way I can go wrong with 11 .45ACP's in a very concealable package. It's why I deliberately chose the G30S (for $465 out the door -- no tax or other fees) over any other handgun I could carry concealed. That's just my personal choice of caliber and weapon. Everyone is different. Oddly enough, my older brother who has been a fan of ANYTHING .45 all his life is now considering stepping down to a Glock 19 9MM from his beloved 45's for the same high-cap reason. He flew combat missions in Vietnam AND the '91 Gulf War, but never used a gun in combat. I have more "combat" experience than HE does! But if he is happy with going to the 9, I'm happy for him.
And now for an anecdote from his jungle vacation in 1972. He said the USAF graciously armed him with a S&W M&P .38 revolver. When he first began flying those friendly skies, he gathered up as much extra ammo as he could. As time went along, he decided to carry the gun unloaded if he had to exit an airplane in a hurry. He knew a .38 revolver was no match for 6 or 7 AK-47's held by some angry natives of the areas he was calling in airstrikes on. He decided he would surrender with an empty gun, rather than have them shoot him with his own gun. He also left the extra ammo behind, trading for the weight of extra rations in case he was downed where he had a chance of slipping away. He laughingly insisted "Mama didn't raise me to be a hero. I'm a coward." Yeah, flying an unarmed slow-ass DC-3 that can't fly higher than a turbocharged turkey (and not much faster) over hostile territory is "chicken." Ha!

You putting one or two in the bad guy's upper torso from your .45 is not going to matter too much to him on whether or not I'm putting one or two in him with my G19. He's still DEAD. I'm thinking you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. but like you said, to each his own. “The human spirit is more powerful than any drug and that is what needs to be nourished: with work, play, friendship and family. When I said "step down" I was referring to the fact that the 9mm is easier on the shooter than the .45. It's not as accurate, but has less recoil. I just like the bigger bullet because it IS the bigger bullet.
You are right ........ the bad guy won't know the difference if you hit him in the right place(s).

I agree, it's a good one. “The human spirit is more powerful than any drug and that is what needs to be nourished: with work, play, friendship and family. These are the things that matter.”

Pistol matches aren't won by 9MM's. Almost invariably it is a 1911 type in .45 ACP. There is a reason professional competitors spend thousands to soup up a .45 but not a 9MM. The 9MM is not as accurate as the .45ACP.
