Just saw that 5 of the top 10 teams all lost last night, including #1 & #2. Crazy! It's a strange season. Last weekend, USCw beat UF 3-1, UCF beat USCw 3-1, and UF beat UCF 3-1. There is some early season strangeness going on right now. The weekend before, UF beat #2 UNL in their place 3-1 then lost 3-2 to #7 Texas blowing a 10-4 lead in the 5th set. This season has been crazy so far. UF playing in that joke of a venue at NAU was crazy too.

NAU? That's as surprising a result as I have seen in a long time. I watched it last night streaming on Pluto TV. The venue at NAU is a joke. It is a tremendous home advantage for NAU who is accustomed to that mess. The gym ceiling is so low that everything off the ceiling is considered to be in play. That includes lighting, HVAC ductwork, basketball goals and nets, plus wires and anything else they have in the ceiling. NAU rarely hit the ball off the ceiling, but the Gators ruined advantage after advantage in each set hitting off the ceiling to mess up their momentum. It was ridiculous for a team the caliber of UF to play in that cracker box gym. I know why HC Mary Wise wanted to go play a weekend in Arizona. She has several players on the team from Arizona. I just hope next time she schedules something like this that the venue is better than the dump the Gators played in last night. Arizona, Arizona State, anybody in Arizona with a volleyball ready gym would be preferable to that joke of a box at NAU. NAU has a good little team, but UF sweeps them 3-0 in a proper volleyball venue. More to the point, the match would have been better for UF had it been played outdoors. At an elevation of 7,000 FT above seas level, it couldn't have been too hot outside. At least the balls wouldn't have repeatedly been bouncing awkwardly off the ceiling. It sounds like an excuse but believe me, I understand. We have lived it in club volleyball. It changes your entire philosophy if you have to account for balls bouncing off of a low ceiling. That said, you still have to control your passes to take that aspect out of play.

So much good volleyball at the youth level on up and many more ladies staying in the game as coaches... good ones, after their playing days are done.

No updates recently? Gators have a huge match tonight against BYU who was #1 most of the year. Figured you would be all over that.
I am watching Kentucky and Nebraska now. Crazy talent on both sides.

Gave up on team when I quit posting. They are young and play like it. BYU 3-1. I turned it off at 1-1.

They were no match for BYU without a consistent outside threat but the Gators are a good team, young or not.

They were no match for BYU without a consistent outside threat but the Gators are a good team, young or not. I was spoiled by last year when the Gators made it to the national final match. This was a good team with lots of potential, but the team is a year away from competing at the highest level of women's volleyball. The match against BYU was typical of the year UF had. I knew at 1-1 that it was over. I didn't need to watch BYU dominate the next 2 sets. I have become accustomed to the Gators playing as they did in the first set, as they should be able to in every set they play. Again, I'm spoiled and expect more from the Gator volleyball team. With the return of most everybody and a few key additions, the Gators will be better than Sweet 16 in 2019. Hopefully, they will perform up to the Gator standard of consistently elite quality volleyball. The 2018 Gators weren't an elite team.
