I am thinking a good game is preferable to a game with a fat line. Note, this week particularly, how close most the lines are. Is it the board's opinion that the teams are more important than the competitiveness of the games? |

Now, I do not mind that, and even relished the idea as they headed into Syracuse and the line begged the Q. To me, that there is interesting. But going into UM? Not quite the same scenario, IMO. Again, this gets to a board preference. Does the board want, for instance, USC/UCLA if the Bruins are 2-8 and a 20 point dog? I will go there if that is the preference because it is a rivalry game, but to me... meh... ..and if the Bruins stink but get a back door cover late after the Trojans put in the scout team, does that somehow validate the pick as an interesting game? I say no. What say you all? |

I say no. What say you all? I posted my own criteria back when I ran it. Games between ranked teams should always be on the list. Big time rivalries should be on the list. The line helps to make decisions more difficult. Games between teams from different P5 conferences should always get early season consideration because they're games we don't often get to see. After that, then games based solely on the closeness of the line, IMO. In either event, I don't see how Syracuse/Pitt somehow generates more excitement. Bottom line, IMO, the line shouldn't be the primary driver of the decision. The line theoretically, at least in this game, should create an equal playing field. Yes, on paper, Miami should be better, than FSU. But 13 points better? In a rivalry game? Very possibly. But we aren't picking straight up. And you are choosing games based on your view of the outcome that hasn't occurred. Not sure that's the best way to do it. |
