I didn't predict or expect UF to win in Tuscaloosa. My view has also since been clouded by my concern for the loss of pass catching TE Jake McGee with his broken leg. I wrote about that here last week. UF doesn't have a TE capable of replacing McGee in Roper's offense that counts on having a pass catching TE. IMO, the game would have been closer with him than without him.
Besides TE, I have more concern about a young secondary and the OL than I do with Driskel.

Look, just say UF is solid, not mediocre. You can do it. It would reflect your own grading system. You made the comment that UF is mediocre: Trn: "To me...good teams are 11-25ish in the nation. Elite is 1-10. Solid is 25-40. Mediocre is 41-70ish. Beyond that...who cares. Vandy is the only team "beyond that"." The votes UF received in the AP and Coaches polls indicates solid rather than a team outside the top 40. Valid concerns don't matter. All teams including FSU have them. Your comments would reflect your grading scale if not for your anti-Gators bias. Based on what I saw, the Gators aren't in the top 40. That's my opinion...not the AP's.

The difference, you asked me for my opinion. I didn't ask for yours.

UF's updated depth chart: www.gatorzone.com/football/stats/depth.pdf1. Reflects the reshuffled OL with starting LT DJ Humphries likely out until the at Tennessee or LSU game. Chaz Green moved from RT to LT and Rod Johnson moved up to start at RT. Johnson had a couple of missed assignments against UK. I hope he has the mistakes worked out of his system now. 2. Shows the TEs with Jake McGee removed and DeAndre Goolsby added. 3. NTs Bostwick's and Brantley's weights have been updated from 294 and 295 to 305 and 313. I thought both looked bigger than originally reported. 4. True freshman Buck Gerald Willis isn't listed, but he's playing. 5. CJ Worton broke his hand in practice last week. He probably won't be back until LSU. I imagine it's hard to catch passes with a cast on a broken hand. 6. Kyle Christy won the punting job. Johnny Townsend is likely to redshirt unless Kyle melts down again like last season. 7. Frankie Velez is the FG kicker. He's good from 40 in. I'd call Austin Hardin the long distance specialist out to 55, but he has no accuracy. That's why Frankie beat him out for FGs and PATs. Austin missed a 51 yarder that could have won the game in regulation for UF. Austin is the KO specialist. He has kicked a couple out of bounds, but we really don't have anyone else with a strong enough leg to kickoff. 8. Andre Debose is the best we have at KO and P returns, but he isn't making an impact yet at WR - can't say I'm surprised. 9. Against UK, Dunbar and Robinson started at WR and Fulwood came off the bench. Something may have to be done with Latroy Pittman if he continues to drop passes. He dropped drive ending passes in both games played so far. I'd give the starting job to Valdez Showers or CJ Worton when he comes back if Latroy continues to drop passes. 10. RB Adam Lane is an enigma. He reportedly had a good spring and it showed in the Orange and Blue Game. However, he has since fallen behind true freshman Brandon Powell. To my knowledge, Adam hasn't played yet. The other 4 RBs have played. Also, Matt Jones started the first two games with Kelvin Taylor first off the bench.

Kyle Christy - SEC Special Teams Player of the Week:
University of Florida senior Kyle Christy earned the Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honor for his performance in the Gators’ thrilling 36-30 triple-overtime victory over Kentucky, the league office announced Monday.
Christy recorded six punts for 292 yards with a net punting average of 45.5, including four inside the 20-yard line and three fair caught against the Wildcats. The Brownsburg, Ind., native booted a season-high 61-yarder in the fourth quarter, falling just six yards shy of matching his career best.
“Kyle Christy punted the ball extremely well,” head coach Will Muschamp said during his Monday press conference. “I think his net was right at 45. He really flipped the field and early in the game.”
Five of Christy’s nine punts this season have sailed for 50 yards or more, with four of them coming Saturday versus Kentucky. He ranks first in the SEC with a 48.6-yard season punting average through Week 3.

Chaz Green has a great attitude. I can see why we missed him so much when he went down last summer with a season ending injury:
By Zach Abolverdi Correspondent
Published: Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 8:00 a.m.
Five questions with Florida senior offensive lineman Chaz Green.
Q: Most people were surprised that it took your team three overtimes to beat Kentucky. What are your thoughts on that?
A: I think it’s just the game of football. It was a great game. They’re definitely a more talented bunch than they were last year. I will say they’re much improved. I can see them winning some games and having a good season this year. And I think just given the way the game went, it ended up being a dogfight. Some games are like that. We came out victorious, and I think that was positive for our team moving forward.
Q: How do you feel right tackle Rod Johnson did in his first career start?
A: I thought he played well. As a young guy, I’ve been in that position before. I thought he played very well. He’s got a big challenge this week too.
Q: How do you think your team will handle being on the road at Alabama?
A: It’s going to be a crazy environment. Last time I went there I was a freshman. I was redshirting, so I didn’t play. But it was a crazy environment. Real hectic, very, very loud. They have good fan support. So it’s just something that we have to prepare for and make sure everyone knows what they’re doing because communication is going to be an issue with the noise.
Q: Have you been looking forward to this game more than others?
A: I would say you can’t look at it that way. It’s another opponent. Yeah, they’ve been very successful in the past, but at the end of the day, it’s football. It just comes down to effort, technique and finishing.
Q: How do you feel about having the underdog role and few people giving your team a chance to win Saturday?
A: We don’t pay attention to any of that. I know it may sound arrogant, but we’re just focused on getting better each and every week to go out there and put on the best show we can. We play for each other. Personally, I don’t get involved in all the outside stuff. We just try to go out there and improved week in and week out.

Comparison of the Tuscaloosa game had it been played in Gainesville:
Gainesville:
Kickoff - Temperature 84/Humidity 59% Halftime - Temperature 82/Humidity 62% End 3rd Quarter - Temperature 80/Humidity 66% End of Game - Temperature 78/Humidity 73%
Tuscaloosa:
Kickoff - Temperature 87/Humidity 47% Halftime - 86/Humidity 46% End 3rd Quarter - 84/Humidity 49% End of Game - 84/Humidity 52%
It's going to be a more clear day with less humidity in Tuscaloosa. The players will have the stay hydrated, but I doubt you'll see as much cramping as we saw last Saturday night against UK when the humidity was so high. By comparison, Tuscaloosa will feel warm and comfortable.

For UF to have any chance to win against bama, the Gators MUST be successful pitching and catching a lot of passes against the tide defense. I'm thinking UF needs to be skewed to the pass in game planning, say 55:45 or 60:40. Muschamp wants a balanced offense, but it won't work with the tide's defense. There is no way UF will be successful running the ball against the tide's talented and NFL sized front 7. The DTs are in the 320 range and the LBers are 250+ and run like deer. This on bama's secondary is good news for UF. West Virginia's Clint Trickett passed on bama so hopefully Jeff Driskel can too:
Alabama secondary thin against Florida
September, 17, 2014
By Alex Scarborough | ESPN.com
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- If there was ever a time not to make a bad decision, it was during the second half against Southern Miss, up three touchdowns with a big game against Florida on the horizon.
Alabama should have been focused on getting out of the game unscathed, but instead Nick Perry took matters into his own hands, making helmet-to-helmet contact with a defenseless receiver. The veteran safety was flagged on the play, ejected from the game, and, by rule, will have to sit out the first half of Saturday’s game against SEC rival Florida.
It was a tough break for an Alabama defense already missing Jarrick Williams, who fractured his foot against West Virginia. With Williams and Perry out, the secondary is missing its two most experienced defensive backs. The two have combined for 25 career starts, while their potential replacements, Geno Smith and Jabriel Washington, have combined for three starts since 2012.
“We just have to work everyone and see how we end up,” said coach Nick Saban. “Now that we lost Jarrick, who’s a safety, and Nick for half a game, we are getting a little thin there.”
Since Florida likes to spread the field with three and four receivers, the loss of Perry creates a domino effect. When Smith shifts back to safety, he vacates the nickel cornerback position. That means either Tony Brown or Maurice Smith have to come off the bench and fill in. Smith saw limited action as a freshman last season and Brown, a former five-star recruit, just arrived on campus in January.
Asked what they’ll miss most with Perry and Williams out, safety Landon Collins said, “Knowledge.”
“Other than that, we’ll have other guys step up,” he added.
Both Collins and junior cornerback Cyrus Jones were matter-of-fact about the sudden departure of their teammates.
Part of it was gamesmanship, to be sure, but part of it is the culture at Alabama. Last season there was never much settled in the secondary as Maurice Smith, Eddie Jackson, John Fulton and Jones all rotated at cornerback. At safety, Vinnie Sunseri and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix both missed chunks of time. Meanwhile, Perry was lost for the season with a shoulder injury.
While Jones could admit that it “puts more pressure on the older guys to hold down the fort,” he wouldn’t concede much with Perry out for the first half and Williams not expected to play.
“You just have to go out there and play with a lot of confidence,” he said of Smith, Brown and Washington. “Those guys are just eager for their time and are ready to make plays when they’re called upon. We definitely don’t take a step down from when we have somebody go out.”
That’s the hope at least.
If there was any good news to come out of the aftermath of the game against Southern Miss, it was that starting cornerback Eddie Jackson isn’t seriously injured. The sophomore, who returned from a torn ACL last week, came up limping in the first half. Medical trainers tended to him on the sideline, but Saban said after the game that it wasn’t structural. A bruised quad, he said, “I don’t think it’s anything serious.”

Somebody forgot to tell the Gators that the tide is unstoppable ....GO GATORS !!! My comment about UF's young secondary being a concern has been proven to be well founded. Bama's two long TDs were drawn up to take advantage of UF's young safeties.

Men playing against boys:
Bama 42 UF 21
It should have been 49-21 except for Nick Saban being a gracious host by calling off the dogs late in the 4th quarter.
Outside of Vernon Hargreaves the UF secondary is a young work in progress. Add in that the UF O couldn't consistently move the ball against the bama D and it spells a beat down in Tuscaloosa followed by a spirited rammer jammer. The UF D was worn out by the end of the game as bama completely dominated time of possession and number of plays in the 2nd half.
Next up at Tennessee.
