I'm glad it's Muschamp's fat in the fire and not mine. I'd have used the off week to get Treon Harris ready for significant PT in the UT game. Driskel was 9 of 28 passing against bama. Even if you give him the 4 drops, he's still below 50% completion percentage and inaccurate on anything past 10 yards downfield. He missed a long TD in the 2nd quarter to Demarcus Robinson who had 2 steps on the defender by making an over throw. If he can't be more accurate, he's got to go to the bench. If I'm Will Muschamp, I'd have a quick hook at UT:
Florida to stick with QB Jeff Driskel
Updated: September 24, 2014, 4:58 PM ET
By Jeff Barlis | ESPN.com
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- There's no change at quarterback for Florida, but there was an apology.
Struggling junior Jeff Driskel is still the starter after Florida coach Will Muschamp reiterated Wednesday that the fourth-year quarterback "gives us the best opportunity to win right now."
Muschamp also said he got a call from Gator great Emmitt Smith, the NFL Hall of Famer, who called for Driskel to be benched during Florida's 42-21 loss to Alabama last Saturday.
"Emmitt called to apologize, to me, to Jeff Driskel and our football team," Muschamp said. "He was frustrated. He wants us to win. He wants us to be successful."
Driskel's mistakes were obvious and costly in the Gators' blowout loss. He completed just 32 percent of his passes (9 of 28) with two interceptions.
"Jeff needs to play better and I think he'd be the first person to tell you that," Muschamp said. "... He certainly forced some things that we can't afford to do, especially on two of the interceptions."
Driskel was particularly ineffective on third down, completing just one of eight attempts. He also continued to struggled with longer throws, missing 14 of 16 that went at least 10 yards.
Muschamp did say he was pleased with the progress that true freshman backup Treon Harris has shown in practice this week.
"[He] continues to do some nice things," said Muschamp, who admitted he thought about pulling Driskel late in the Alabama game. "Game by game, [we'd like to] give him some opportunities. We'd like to have him have some snaps depending on the situation in the game.
"But he had a good day yesterday; I'm very pleased with some things he did."
Florida (2-1, 1-1 in the SEC) has a bye this week before traveling to face Tennessee on Oct. 4.

DT Leon Orr had his knee scoped last Monday after the bama game.
MLB Michael Taylor injured his knee against bama.
Both are questionable for the UT game. Orr is walking around without crutches. My guess is both will practice next week and be ready for UT. Orr will probably miss bloody Tuesday, but he'll be involved in everything else. If Taylor can't play, look for Antonio Morrison to move back inside. I think that is his best position anyway.
The good news is starting LT DJ Humphries is on schedule to be back for UT. A good OL is getting better. Rod Johnson was thrown into the fray and he played well in the two games Humphries was out. Solid depth on the OL is a good thing.

This game is big for Will in that, if the Gators lose, I don't see Muschamp keeping his job. I agree. It's a must win for UF. Well, let's hope he and Driskel stay through Halloween weekend.

Zach Abolverdi @zachabolverdi #Gators AD Jeremy Foley tells @bianchiwrites #UF coach Will Muschamp will get entire season to prove himself AD-speak. Depending on how the season goes, I could see Muschamp getting canned mid-season. If they come out and lay an egg next weekend, it wouldn't shock me in the slightest.

If the wheels come off again and I hope they don't, Foley could put out feelers to his coaching list, but he'd allow Muschamp to finish the season. The Zooker finished his season, beat FSU 20-13 on Ron Zook Field when SOS couldn't get a win there, and was offered to stay and coach the Chick-Fil-A Bowl against Miami. It was Zooker's choice to move on to Illinois and not coach the bowl game. Charlie Strong coached the bowl game, a 27-10 loss. I'm sticking with if UF is in contention for the SEC East going to the Cocktail Party that Muschamp's job will be safe. Otherwise, he's toast.

When Foley said the dreaded words "We'll evaluate everything after the season" Muschamp's demise was sealed imo. The Gators are going to need 9 wins for Coach Boom to get back in Foley's good graces imo.

The Gators are going to need 9 wins for Coach Boom to get back in Foley's good graces imo. If Muschamp needs 9 wins, Foley had better put Idaho back on the schedule the week before UGA. My guess is 8-3 is as good as it gets and 7-4 or 6-5 is just as likely. I'm getting old so I want this to get resolved this season one way or the other. My life is too short not to enjoy watching UF win football games with a kick ass and take names later coach at the helm. Note to Jeremy Foley: Don't ever hire a football HC that doesn't have previous HC experience. You are 0-1 with the Zooker, 3years, and working on 0-2 with the Boom, 4 years. You got away with it successfully in the lesser sports, but this is the biggest game in college sports. Bring in a proven talent. Dan Mullen has earned his spurs at Missy State. He's feisty, young, and he has developed good experience. He'll do.

With the talent UF has and could have Mullins could step in immediately and be effective.

Got to say, watching Brissett leading NCSt against FSU, he looks a whole lot better, at least for now, than Driskel does.
