Will Muschamp is in his wheelhouse as a DC. That doesn't mean he won't get another HC job. I was just speaking for myself. Jeremy Foley isn't going to hire Lame Kitten, but I would. Muschamp should probably stick to defense. But, that's jmo. Based on his 4 year track record with UF, I agree with you. He just doesn't have a vision for the offense.

He forces the OCs to complement his defense, handcuffing them. If he would just let OCs do their job, I think he could be very successful.

I think he will get another chance somewhere down the road. If he does, maybe he will delegate the offense and step out of the way. He seems like a decent guy...hope he lands on his feet.

Losing a dream job should have the long-term impact of teaching him his lesson. The next time the opportunity arises, I don't think he'll repeat the mistake. Will Muschamp is everthing you'd want in a college football coach minus the hapless offense problems. Reading the comments about him from the pres, AD, and his fellow coaches, you'd think UF was hiring him rather than firing him.

Robbie Andreu's Eastern Kentucky prediction:
Robbies Playbook Just play and have fun Friday, November 21, 2014 at 1:43 by Robbie Andreu
One thing I picked up on at the big news conference Monday was that there seemed to be a sense of relief from everybody, including Will Muschamp, that the inevitable decision had finally been made. Everyone saw it coming weeks ago. There was hope for Muschamp following those back-to-back wins over Georgia and Vanderbilt. But the way the South Carolina game deteriorated like it did in the final minutes, everyone knew Muschamp’s fate had been sealed.
Now that everyone knows for sure where this whole thing stands, the pressure is off. Maybe now Muschamp and the Gators will stop coaching and playing tight and scared, which is something they’ve seemed to do all season. You get the feeling Muschamp was so fearful of big, negative plays that he went so conservative that his offensive players started doubting themselves and lost confidence.
Time for the paranoia to end. Time to relax and start having fun again. It is just a game, and no one’s job is on the line now. So, cut it loose and play free, leaving all the clutter behind.
That’s what I think Muschamp and the Gators will do for these last two games. That sense of relief lifts a big burden off everyone — coaches, players and even fans, who seemed to also grow fearful of what would go wrong next if the Gators actually tried to throw the ball in a tight game.
So, relax, everybody. Let’s just play some football and have some fun again.
Prediction: Florida 38, Eastern Kentucky 17.

Pat Dooley Answers Fans Questions:
Dooleys Desk Dr. Football’s Mailbag, Eastern Kentucky week Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 3:27 by Pat Dooley
This is the next-to-last Mailbag so if you’ve been waiting all year to ask a question, you had better get it in before Tuesday. Thanks again everyone.
You summed up the S.C. loss as “Muschamp 101″ football, and that was dead on. Throwing only 11 passes against that secondary is mind-boggling; do you think that in the end he just couldn’t stop himself from trying to win his way, no matter how much the team struggled during the game? — Carl
In a word, “Yes.” I think Will Muschamp struggled to let the offense cut loose because of his job insecurity. He knew he had to win games and felt the best way to win was to not take chances because of the turnovers that resulted when he did that with Jeff Driskel. The plan was to open up the offense last year and Driskel got hurt nine quarters in. The plan was to open up the offense this year but Driskel kept melting down. In the end, his desire to have a better offense was hamstrung by his quarterback and once they switched to Treon Harris, they were afraid to do too much.
Why did Muschamp choose the south (South Carolina) end zone for OT? Don’t tell me because of the wind. The advantage is the north end zone with the students and the noise. — William
When I saw this happening, I was losing my mind in the press box. It made no sense. It was almost as if he knew he wasn’t going to take any chances and wanted the wind for his field goal kicker. In many ways, it sums up why Florida is looking for a new coach.
Why don’t the Gators throw the ball between the hash marks? It seems like all of our passes are down the sideline which basically takes away half the field and adds an extra defender (the sideline). — Steve
I never understood why the game plan seemed to be run up the middle and throw an occasional deep ball. It certainly was not a very sophisticated passing attack. Again, some of that goes back to the number of interceptions that happened when they did throw over the middle.
Why did it take you so long to call for Muschamp’s firing when everyone could see it after the Georgia Southern loss that he had to go? — John
I felt and still do that he deserved another year. He was coming off an 11-win season and SEC coach of the year. The injuries were devastating in 2013. Many of us thought they could have a big year in 2014, but the LSU loss killed it and the Missouri loss was brutal. Still, if he could have run the table, it would have been an 8-3 season with wins over Tennessee, Georgia and FSU, so you had to give him that opportunity. That’s my opinion and obviously the opinion of the athletic director. And I truly believe that by giving him a fourth year Jeremy Foley made the job a little more attractive.

Yes, that was a pretty unflattering commentary.
Watching some of Mike Gundy's press conferences this year makes me wonder if he is burned out and exhausted. Gundy looks like he lacks energy. I wonder if he is sick of Oklahoma State--especially putting up with the AD Mike Holder and its pain-in-the-butt benefactor, Boone Pickens. Fans are grumbling as well. It is sad for something like this to happen. I have always liked and respected Mike Gundy. He is a straight shooter and tells it like it is. No phoniness with Mike. What you see is what you get, so to speak. The downside is that Gundy has been known to rub people the wrong way too. Gundy might have a tough road ahead if he seeks a head coaching job elsewhere. He must learn to get along with people. That said, I can understand why he dislikes being under the heavy thumb of Boone Pickens.

It would be like Gundy going from the frying pan into the fire at UF. Jeremy Foley is the best AD in the nation and he's involved in all of UF's athletic programs. UF also has an active booster club with big time donors. To top it off, UF fans are as demanding as they are supportive. I don't think Gundy would be any more comfortable in Gainesville than he is now in Stillwater.

DJ Durkin to coach bowl game:
By Kevin Brockway Staff writer

Last Modified: Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 5:49 p.m.
Gators defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin will serve as interim coach for their bowl game, Florida announced Saturday.
Durkin has been on the Florida staff since 2010. He began as a linebackers/special teams coach under former UF coach Urban Meyer and stayed on coach Will Muschamp’s staff . In 2013, Muschamp promoted Durkin to defensive coordinator when Dan Quinn left to become defensive coordinator of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.
The Gators (6-4) clinched bowl eligibility with a 52-3 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at Florida Field.
Florida’s bowl destination remains unclear at this point. The Gators have been projected for several locations, including the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, N.C., the Music City Bowl in Nashville, the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville and the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn. No bowl representatives attended Saturday’s game, though representatives from the Gator Bowl have attended Florida games in recent weeks.

Florida State is on a 27 game winning streak. The last team to beat FSU was UF. The Gators are going to end the streak framing the streak with bookend UF losses.
Muschamp will go out a winner at FSU forever tying him to Zook. Muschamper = Zooker.
This from Gator Country:
Florida Gators want to spoil Noles’ perfect season
Written by Nick de la Torre, November 22, 2014
The Florida Gators have turned into the answer to a trivia question.
The Florida State Seminoles have won an astonishing 27 consecutive games in a row dating back to 2012. Who was the last team to beat them? The Florida Gators.
The Gators endured an emotional week after the firing of Will Muschamp last Sunday. By Muschamp’s own admission the team was unfocused on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this past week but they handled business on Saturday with a 52-3 win over Eastern Kentucky.
“It’ll hit me when the season is over,” Muschamp said of the finality of his time in Gainesville fast approaching. “I’ve already switched gears to next week, that’s just what we do.”
Next week brings a tall task. The Seminoles have had some close games this season, including a three point win on the back of a last second field goal to beat Tyler Murphy and Boston College on Saturday. The Noles are enjoying their quest for a repeat as national champions as much as the Gators did in 2009. Every game is seemingly more arduous; one part satisfaction three parts relief.
The players are astutely aware of the success their cross-state rival is experiencing, even more so than you might imagine. “It was to us,” senior linebacker Mike Taylor answered when asked if he knew who the last loss was for the Noles. “We wore the white tops, orange bottoms. I was there; I was a little sick, under the weather. I dressed out but, yeah, I remember the last time they lost a game, it was to us. Let’s go start that up again.”
Unlike last year, Florida’s season won’t end with the FSU game. The Gators 52-3 win on Saturday made them bowl eligible. It will, however, be the last game that the Gators play with Will Muschamp.
Muschamp will coach the Gators in Tallahassee — his swan song. Following the win on Saturday the players lifted Muschamp up in the locker room, dancing singing and yelling. They love their coach and want nothing more than to send him out a winner.
The Seminoles won’t make things easy for Florida. Florida State is playing for a chance to make the College Football Playoff and a loss next week would almost certainly knock them out of contention for that.
On paper, Florida will likely be a double-digit underdog on the road. That doesn’t matter to them. They are riding high off of a win. They’re playing for a coach that they love and it’s rivalry week in Gainesville.
Asked if he knew how many games FSU had won in a row, defensive lineman Alex McCalister shrugged before being informed of the total.
“Yeah, we’re going to end that,” he said. “Don’t worry about that.”

Will Muschamp had his final Monday press conference. Sadly, he had nothing of importance to say.

Not sure Gundy would fit into the culture at Florida anyway, but Gundy's situation at Oklahoma State seems dysfunctional and he seems miserable. He's been there 10 years and maybe it's time for him to go elsewhere. Would he pull a Tuberville?
