Well, Treon Harris is 5'10" and UF needs a QB in the 15 class.......... I think he's just trying to get a QB commit in the class since the kid from Cali decommitted when Muschamp was fired. My guess is Will Grier will beat Harris out to become the next QB at UF. Grier has all the tools plus he had a year to redshirt. Grier is 6'3" and around 210. He's probably a better fit in whatever offense McElwain would want to run. I'm not sure if Jeff Driskel is coming back for his last year of eligibility. I think he should transfer so he can play immediately. IMO, he doesn't have what it takes to compete at high levels in major college football. He could also reopen his chances at a baseball career. I had to admit on this board a few pages back that Trn was right all along about Driskel's lack of good QB skills. I unfortunately bought into the talk that Driskel was the ideal fit for Roper's spread offense. I refuse to get suckered in again.

Jake McGee - I expect the NCAA to grant an additional medical ship year of eligibility. Jake broke his leg in the middle of the 1st quarter of the 1st game. His loss proved to be as big as I suspected at the time. Jeff's Driskel's best target was gone in a flash:

Senior tight end Jake McGee has petitioned the NCAA seeking another year of eligibility after missing the 2014 season with a broken leg he sustained in the first half of UF’s opening game against Eastern Michigan.
“Yeah, he’s trying to do that,” interim UF coach D.J. Durkin said Thursday. “We’re trying to get him another year. I totally believe he deserves it and that should work out for him. But we don’t know the answer on that yet.”
McGee was expected to be a big part of Kurt Roper’s offense, but that never materialized because of the injury. With McGee out, the tight end position was a non-factor in the passing game for much of the season.
McGee transferred to UF last summer from Virginia, where he graduated early. He enrolled in graduate school at UF and was ruled eligible for the 2014 season.
McGee has to appeal for an extra year of eligibility because he redshirted during his freshman season at Virginia.

Special to Gatorsports.com

With the help of a record $12.5 million donation from an anonymous donor, construction on a new academic learning center for Florida athletes will begin in March.
The donation is the largest individual gift to UF athletics. An additional $12.5 million in matching gifts will provide $25 million to enhance the program for tutoring, studying, academic advising, job placement and other services for UF's 480 student-athletes in 21 varsity sports.
Housed in Farrior Hall and formerly called the Office of Student Life, the program will now be named the Otis Hawkins Center for Academic and Personal Excellence.
"We want our student-athletes to be champions on the field, court and in the pool - and in their lives and professions after graduation," UF President Dr. Bernie Machen said. "This new center will bring together and enhance our learning and career services for these students, ensuring they have every opportunity for academic as well as athletic excellence."

Treon Harris driving without a license (shaking head):

Starting Florida quarterback Treon Harris is facing a second-degree misdemeanor charge for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. According to court records, Harris has never had a license.
A citation was filed on Tuesday by University Police.
Harris has an arraignment date set for Jan. 15 at the Alachua County Courthouse.
Harris' attorney, Huntley Johnson, said Harris is in the process of trying to secure a driver's license.
“I think as soon as he gets his license, the charge probably will be dismissed,” Johnson said. “That's the way it's usually handled in a case like this for a citizen, and he's a citizen.”
Florida is practicing for its Jan. 3 bowl date against East Carolina.

If he doesn't straighten up and quickly, he's going to make it easy for Will Grier to pass him by during the spring.

ROFLMAO !!!! first sexual battery/RAPE and now smoking dope with his UF buds!!!!! " According to Robbie Andreu of the Gainesville Sun, Jalen Tabor and J.C. Jackson were also in the car with Harris. UPD pulled over the car because the smell of marijuana was coming from it. But, the athletes were not charged when police found marijuana because the car was not either of theirs."

I didn't need to rehash what Treon was charged with and was dropped in less than a week. That's well documented here on the Florida board.
Insofar as leaving stuff out of Andreu's article, that's impossible as I cut and pasted exactly what was reported.
I did see that marijuana was reported on Gator Country, but why report shit that the police determined wasn't a chargeable offense. I think I covered it pretty well to say the to be such a seemly good kid that he gets into more than his share of trouble and speculated Will Grier could pass him up if he didn't straighten up quickly.
IMO, Will Grier will beat Treon Harris out anyway. Grier is a much better passer. I think that will come more in play with McElwain than anything Muschamp ever put on the field.

Florida’s hiring of Doug Nussmeier as offensive coordinator became official Wednesday with an announcement by the school.
The Sun reported Tuesday that Nussmeier was being hired as the Gators’ offensive coordinator by new head coach Jim McElwain.
“Doug and I have worked together on the same staff and I’ve known him for years,” McElwain said in a UF release. “We are like thinkers in that he will adapt to the players we have in the program and develop them as we continue to evolve.”
Nussmeier will also serve as quarterbacks coach.
McElwain and Nussmeier have worked together in the past. They were on the same coaching staff at Michigan State in 2003-05. McElwain recommended Nussmeier for the offensive coordinator jobs at Fresno State and Alabama when he left those positions. Nussmeier was hired by both schools to replace McElwain.
Nussmeier, 44, helped lead Alabama to the national title in 2012. He left the Tide after the 2013 season to become the offensive coordinator at Michigan, where he was made one of the highest-paid assistant coaches ($830,000 a year) in college football.
He was out of a job after Michigan coach Brady Hoke was fired two weeks ago.
“I’m excited to reunite with Coach Mac -- we obviously have a long history and share similar philosophies,” Nussmeier said. “I’m honored to join The Gator Nation and work for one of the most storied programs in all of college football.”
UF now has both coordinators in place. Last week, Geoff Collins took over as defensive coordinator, a position he held at Mississippi State.
McElwain certainly has a good knowledge of Nussmeier’s coaching ability. The two were on the same staff at Michigan State for three seasons (2003-05).
In 2006, Nussmeier became an NFL assistant, becoming the quarterbacks coach for the St. Louis Rams for two seasons.
He returned to the college ranks in 2008, replacing McElwain as the offensive coordinator at Fresno State.
After one year at Fresno State, Nussmeier was named the offensive coordinator at Washington, where he coached for three seasons. In his first year, the Huskies doubled their scoring output from the previous season and achieved a near-perfect balance with 2,238 yards rushing and 2,475 yards passing.
After the 2011 season, Nussmeier got the call from Nick Saban to replace McElwain as Alabama’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2012.
In his first season with the Tide, Nussmeier’s offense led the nation in passing efficiency and set school records for touchdowns, passing touchdowns, points and total offense. For the first time in school history, the Tide both rushed and passed for 3,000-plus in a single season en route to winning the national championship.
Nussmeier surprised many when he left Alabama after the 2013 season to become the offensive coordinator at Michigan, where Hoke was struggling to save his job.
This past season, the Wolverines went 5-7 and struggled in Nussmeier’s offense, averaging only 20.9 points and 333.0 yards a game.
Before going to Michigan, there were six consecutive seasons in which Nussmeier had a 1,000-yard rusher.
His track record with quarterbacks may be even more impressive.
He mentored AJ McCarron at Alabama, Jake Locker at Washington, Marc Bulger with the Rams and Drew Stanton with Michigan State.
In 2005, Stanton threw for a school-record 3,415 yards.

Florida 28 East Carolina 20
On to a new era in Florida football:
By SCOTT CARTER GatorZone.com Senior Writer
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Moments earlier it looked as if Gators cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III was about to recover a fumble with East Carolina inside Florida's 20-yard line.
Instead, his path was blocked by a ref. It didn't matter.
Hargreaves still came up with a turnover when he intercepted East Carolina quarterback Shane Harden's pass in the end zone with 1 minute, 16 seconds left.
Hargreaves' pick sealed Florida's 28-20 victory over the Pirates here Saturday at Legions Field in the Birmingham Bowl, clinching a winning season for the Gators (7-5).
Florida's win under interim head coach D.J. Durkin and with new head coach Jim McElwain watching from a booth in the press box, made it the only team from the Sunshine State to win a bowl game this season.

Jeff Driskel Transferring Is Announced - Teams Considered: Duke/Louisiana Tech/Maryland:
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- In what appears to be Jeff Driskel's final game for the Gators, the fourth-year junior quarterback's final play was a victory snap.
Driskel's 9-yard run for a first down with 58 seconds allowed the Gators to run out the clock in their 28-20 win over East Carolina on Saturday in the Birmingham Bowl.
With starter Treon Harris slowed by an elbow injury, Driskel took over in the third quarter and finished 8 of 17 for 48 yards. He added seven yards on three rushes.
Prior to the game, new Gators head coach Jim McElwain said Driskel has requested and received permission to be released from his scholarship with plans to transfer.
"We all have choices and I’m not going to hold him hostage, certainly,'' McElwain said.
Driskel began the season as Florida's starter but lost his job to Harris following a home loss to Missouri.
Interim head coach D.J. Durkin said Driskel responded well to his unexpected opportunity Saturday.
"I think he was outstanding,” Durkin said. “I think it says a lot about him as a person. The amount of adversity he’s had to go through in his career, to be honest, I don’t know if I could last through that. That says a lot about him and a lot about our team. Our guys believe in him; he believes in his teammates.”

There will be quite a battle between Treon Harris and Will Grier. My money would be on Grier. He's 6'3", 200-210 lbs, is an excellent passer, and can run better than he has been given credit for. Harris has the on-field experience, but both will be starting off even in a new offense. Bottom line, may the best QB win the job outright.
