Jeff Driskel Transferring Is Announced - Teams Considered: Duke/Louisiana Tech/Maryland: Dang, I hope he makes his mind up soon. According to all the rumor mills, the OSU QB is now down to 87 different schools. These three are among them.

Maybe he's waiting for a fone call from Muschamp's new home Jeff Driskel couldn't run UF's offense. He wouldn't be able to run Gus Malzahn's offense at Auburn. He would only be good for backup insurance. Good thing for AU that Will Muschamp has zero to do with the offensive side of the football.

As I suspected, it looks like UF just has too much ground to make up to have anything more than a smaller class than they could take or get the quality they want to have anything better than a grade C recruiting class: www.gatorsports.com/article/20150104/ARTICLES/150109875?p=1&tc=pgIf UF has as many transfers as Muschamp encountered after he was hired, the 15 season will look a lot like the 11 season with the high potential of a turnaround season in 16. For the 15 season to be better than 11, Coach Mac will have to have higher recruiting success than I presently this is possible and keep transfers down to a minimum. Jeff Driskel is as good as gone. Juniors Dante Fowler and Matt Jones have announced for the NFL. Look for juniors Jonathan Bullard, Antonio Morrison, and OL Humphries to announce for the NFL too. UF will not be playing the 15 season with a full roster which I consider to be 80 to 83 as UF has a strict policy on not allowing oversigning, not that oversigning will be a problem with the 15 recruiting class. Bottom line, I'm getting too old for predictable down seasons. Jeremy Foley had better have hit a homerun with Jim McElwain or I'm going to be pissed off to the max.

Right on cue, DJ Humphries off to NFL:
Written by Nick de la Torre, January 4, 2015
The Florida Gators will lose a fourth junior early to the NFL Draft.
Sunday night D.J. Humphries took to social media to announce his intentions to leave school early and make a run at playing football professionally in the NFL.
The Gainesville Sun reported a month ago that Humphries will join Dante Fowler Jr., Tyler Moore and running back Matt Jones in foregoing their senior seasons and declare for the draft following Florida’s final game in the Birmingham Bowl.
I forgot about Tyler Moore declaring too. Tyler declaring is a big mistake as he can't pass protect and that is paramount in the NFL. Tyler should stick around another year to learn how to pass protect better. I doubt he gets drafted.

Gators are in a bit of a precarious situation. Recruiting class is still floundering a bit, and they're losing some talent (especially on the offensive line). Even if they get Cowart and Jefferson, they really really need Ivey. And they still don't have too many dynamic playmakers.

The 15 season is likely to be another down season by UF standards. The 15 recruiting class is looking more like a bust to me. OL is the biggest need, but UF has needs across the board. The dead period ends on 1/15 which I think is too late to get UF back into the recruiting game. If UF has better than a 6-6 or 7-5 season in 15, I'll be pleasantly surprised. In 11, UF was 6-6 and then picked up a 24-17 Gator Bowl win over tOSU. I just don't see much difference between 11 and 15 at this time. As I said in a post above, McElwain will have to recruit better than I expect and keep transfers down to a minimum to do better than 11.

McElwain couldn't bring in a better recruit on the DL - Jonathan Bullard to return to UF for senior season. Bullard can play DT or SDE equally well. He is listed at 270 on the roster, but insiders say he played at 285 in 14:

Florida DL Jonathan Bullard has stemmed the tide of Gator juniors declaring for the NFL. He announced Monday that he is returning for his senior season.
“I wasn’t projected to go where I want to go,” Bullard told Gatorzone.com. “I want to leave a bigger mark on the Florida program than what I have.
“As a veteran player coming back, I want to be a leader on the team as the program enters a new era with a new coaching staff. I want to be a role model for the younger players and help them to buy into the future program.”

Coach Mac rounding out staff - last blank to fill in is WR coach:
By Robbie Andreu Staff writer

New Florida football coach Jim McElwain made it official Monday, announcing the hiring of seven assistants to almost complete his coaching staff.
The new hires are Randy Shannon (associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator and linebackers), Kirk Callahan (secondary), Greg Nord (special teams and tight end), Terrell Williams (defensive line), Tim Skipper (running backs) and Mike Kent (strength and conditioning coordinator).
McElwain also announced that offensive line coach Mike Summers has been retained.
"As we were putting this staff together, we wanted to make sure that all the parts fit for us to be successful," McElwain said in a UF release. "This group has the knowledge, understanding and experience recruiting and coaching in the South, the state of Florida and the Southeastern Conference. They are like thinkers and don't have self-serving agendas.
"They will all help our players be successful on the field, as students and in life and are excited about the opportunity to join The Gator Nation. This is the first step in putting together an infrastructure that will put the Gators back where we belong."
McElwain still has not hired a wide receivers coach. Reports that the job was going to Syracuse’s George McDonald are either premature or inaccurate.

Read this morning that the Gators had another decommittment, a 4* DB...Chauncey Gardner. He's in the class of 16. I never count any commits that make their decisions this early. He doesn't know the new coaching staff so he opened up his recruiting. Seems like a good move on his part to me. He still has UF high on his list.
