Zach A. moved from the Gainesville Sun to SEC Country. This is his recruiting update for UF along with his first mock recruiting class. It looks like a borderline top 5 class to me:

I've been kind of laughing at Uche. He was committed to Golden, decommitted when he was fired and said he probably wouldn't reconsider Miami. Now he has been calling the Canes Rivals group saying he would still like to consider Miami but Richt hasn't made any attempt to talk to him or return his calls.

Now he has been calling the Canes Rivals group saying he would still like to consider Miami but Richt hasn't made any attempt to talk to him or return his calls. I'm glad Reverend Richt isn't giving Uche the time of the day. Uche coming to UF could be tied to the decision of Mack Wilson who isn't going to make his final decision until after he visits UF on 1/29 unless he commits to bama in his visit there on 1/22.
As much as UF wants Mack Wilson, the #1 OLB in the nation out of Montgomery, Alabama, it looks like he's going with bama after having had UF on the top of his list for quite some time. He says it's even between bama and UF, but my long experience in following recruiting says to take the home state team in cases of ties.
The problem is I don't think UF has room for two more LBers unless Jarrad Davis changes his mind and decides to go pro. Davis leaving is a possibility, but not likely. Uche could be getting worried that he may become the odd player out if things don't go his way.
Again, I'm glad Reverend Richt isn't interested in Uche as it's my thought that he'll end up in the Gators class. Taking a talented recruit out of south Florida could be as good as taking the #1 rated OLB in the nation in the long run. As of now, Wilson and Uche are both scheduled to visit UF on 1/29.
A new situation that just arose on 1/5, Michigan's new DC Don Brown offered Uche. He is now scheduled to visit Michigan on 1/22. If he doesn't come to UF and Reverend Richt continues to stonewall him, it looks like he has the option of joining Michigan's highly rated recruiting class.
Uche is an odd one based on his position. He's the 20th rated WDE in the nation on Rivals, but he's being recruited as an OLB at UF. His film on 247 Sports shows a very good high school WDE (Rush DE); however, to me his measurables at 6'1"/217 are more inline with an incoming OLB than WDE. He seems to be a tweener so that concerns me a bit.

Tickles me to death. I'm sick of these egotistical kids acting like they are superstars when they are 17 years old. Every year we hear the #1 rated (fill in the position) will take a December or January visit to Miami and they are really considering the Canes. Nobody believes they are doing anything other than trying to get a free trip to South Beach in January. Those and kids like Uche, who think they are more vital than they are, getting the cold shoulder from our staff excites me. He should be excited about the opportunity to be coached by Coach Kool (whom I would love just for his name even if he wasn't considered one of the best D line coaches in the country).

Yesterday, he picked up an offer from Auburn. He has a visit with them on 1/15, followed by Michigan on 1/22, and UF on 1/29.
If I could wave my magic wand over the situation, I'd put Mack Wilson in UF's class instead of bama's and send Uche to Auburn or Michigan. Again, I don't think it is going to play out that way.
The downside for UF is both could be lost while UF is waiting for the 1/29 visits. Sometimes it's better to take the bird in the hand when you can. We'll see soon enough.

Robbie Andreu of the Gainesville Sun nails it. To back up his points, look at what UF did against the AP final ranked top 25 competition:
Will Grier: 2-0; 28-27 over UT (22) and 38-10 over Ole Miss (10)
Treon Harris: 0-4; Lost 35-28 to LSU (16), 27-2 to FSU (14), 27-15 to bama (1), and 41-7 to Michigan (12)
2015 was truly a tale of two seasons with different QBs. I agree with Robbie that the fault lies with Grier and not Harris; however, I'm not interested in seeing UF leave Harris at the QB position. He can move to slot WR, CB, or he can transfer. No other options makes sense to me:
Robbies Playbook What could have been Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 2:54 by Robbie Andreu
Even with the three-game losing streak to end the season, it’s clear that Jim McElwain has generated momentum in his first year in Gainesville with a 10-win season, an SEC East title, and now what appears to be an outstanding recruiting class in the making.
But, one can’t help but wonder how much more momentum the Gators would have right now (and how much more buzz would be surrounding this program) if Will Grier had not screwed up by taking a performance-enhancing substance banned by the NCAA. His careless, selfish decision altered the course of the season, and obviously changed the direction of the offense.
Before the NCAA suspended him for a calendar year, Grier was really starting to grasp McElwain’s offense and the 6-0 Gators were getting better every week on that side of the ball. Once Grier was suspended, McElwain pretty much suspended the offensive playbook the Gators were starting to grow comfortable with (especially in the downfield passing game) in the first half of the season.
Over the second half of the season, McElwain had to scale back (and in some instances eliminate) many of the things he likes to do in his offense with a drop-back passer. Treon Harris, as we have all seen, is not comfortable in the role of pocket passer, so the coaches were restricted in what they could even attempt to try on offense. The results were not good. The offense regressed over the final eight games of the season. Momentum was lost on that side of the ball.
Had Grier remained eligible and the offense had continued to grow and improve under him, maybe the Gators beat Florida State in The Swamp. Maybe they throw a huge scare into Alabama. Maybe they finish the finish in the top 10. And maybe it’s easier to sell McElwain’s offense to some of these dynamic offensive recruits who have seemed reluctant to pull the trigger for the Gators.
One thing seems certain, McElwain and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier aren’t showing offensive recruits tape of the second half of the season. There’s not much there. To give them an idea what the offense is going to look like (maybe even as soon as this spring), they have to go back to those first six games when Grier was the quarterback.
In the spring, the quarterback competition will be wide open between Harris, Oregon State transfer Luke Del Rio, graduate transfer Austin Appleby and true freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask. The winner of that competition will be a better fit for what McElwain likes to do on offense, and it will generate some momentum going into the summer.
Certainly, the Gators currently have some momentum coming out of the 10-win season and winning the East. But they could have so much more — if not for one player’s careless and selfish mistake.
So, don’t blame Treon Harris for the problems on offense in the second half of the season. Blame the quarterback who wasn’t there.

Shhhhh! Don't tell trn! - This from SEC Country/Zach Abolverdi:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida’s defense received big news Monday for next season.
The final two undecided juniors, linebacker Jarrad Davis and and safety Marcus Maye, chose to return for their senior years instead of opting to enter the NFL draft.
Davis recorded the second-most tackles (98) and a team-high seven quarterback hurries for the Gators in 2015. Maye finished fourth on the team in tackles (82) and had an SEC-leading five forced fumbles, earning him First Team All-American honors from USA Today Sports.
With Davis and Maye coming back, the Gators will have two experienced veterans for a 2016 defense that lost more than half its starting lineup from this past season. Defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard, linebacker Antonio Morrison and nickel back Brian Poole are gone as seniors, while cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III, defensive end Alex McCalister and safety Keanu Neal were three of five juniors who left early for the NFL.
Maye will lead a secondary that returns three other proven defensive backs in Duke Dawson, Jalen Tabor and Quincy Wilson. Florida’s 2013 linebacker class could finally realize its potential this year with a healthy Alex Anzalone, Davis, Daniel McMillian and Matt Rolin.
UF also has the depth, talent and recruits on the defensive line to withstand the loss of Bullard and McCalister, giving the Gators a chance to field another elite defense in 2016.

Congrats on them coming back. I still think you go 7-5 or 8-4 next year. Your woes are on the offensive side of the ball. You hope your defense holds up. As an aside, I love watching fans say stuff like, "We won't miss _______, we have plenty of guys who will step up and fill in fantastically." Sometimes that's true. But if you're talking about a first round talent, you're blowing smoke up everyone's ass. I hoped that once Tim Jernigan left for the NFL that one of our guys would step up and be the next Tim Jernigan. Didn't happen. To assume it'll happen in the case with Bullard, IMO, deflects from the talent that guy is. He's a helluva player, and I don't see anyone YET, on the roster, who would be able to step up and be the disruptive force that he was.

We've got two young horses for the future at QB. Jake Allen will be a nice add too in the 17 class:
Updated heights & weights for 2016 early enrollees Luke Stampini - 1.19.2016 - SEC Country
Florida welcomed a total of 12 early enrollees onto campus this month. With the members of the 2016 class getting onto campus early, we are able to get an updated and more accurate height and weight for the prospects. Below you can see what the players checked in at.
Pahokee (Fla.) ATH McArthur Burnett: 5-foot-9, 157-pounds
Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange OL Stone Forsythe: 6-foot-7, 309-pounds
Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla QB Feleipe Franks: 6-foot-6, 214-pounds Cocoa (Fla.) DB Chauncey Gardner: 5-foot-11, 197-pounds
Hallandale (Fla.) WR Joshua Hammond: 6-foot-1, 179-pounds
Holmes Community College (Miss.) WR Dre Massey: 5-foot-9, 184-pounds
ASA College (Fla.) K Eddy Pineiro: 6-foot, 178-pounds
Farmington (Mich.) LB David Reese: 6-foot, 240-pounds
Lithonia (Ga.) DE Jordan Smith: 6-foot-5, 225-pounds
Citra (Fla.) North Marion WR Freddie Swain: 6-foot, 177-pounds
Dodge City Community College (Kan.) RB Mark Thompson: 6-foot-2, 228-pounds
Manvel (Texas) QB Kyle Trask: 6-foot-4, 230-pounds
Observations
***The biggest surprise is wide receiver Dre Massey. He was listed at 6-foot by most coming out of junior college, but he appears to actually be three inches shorter.
***247Sports listed McArthur Burnett at 5-foot-10, while the rest of the industry listed him between 6-foot and 6-foot-1. His 5-foot-9 measurement is not a complete shock to us. However, weighing in at only 157-pounds is a surprise. It should also be noted the former high school running back is listed as an athlete on the roster. We believed he was being recruited at cornerback, but maybe Florida is not ready to end his offensive career just yet.
***Most had quarterback Kyle Trask around 211-pounds based on a Nike Camp nearly a year ago. Apparently he has been working hard in the weight adding almost 20-pounds.

It could be fun to have a Friday night spring game. I hope the SEC gives its approval:
By Robbie Andreu Staff writer

Saturday night in The Swamp this past season was electric and energetic for the Florida Gators. They're apparently hoping for more of the same on a Friday night this spring.
Although Florida still has not finalized plans for its annual spring football game, the school is hoping to hold the game on the Friday night of April 8, the Sun learned Wednesday.
It would be yet another change under coach Jim McElwain, who is entering his second year at UF, and would give the Gators a stand-alone event that ideally could benefit recruiting.
Before it becomes official, UF will have to gain approval from the SEC. In the past, UF's annual Orange & Blue Debut has been held on Saturday afternoon. This would be the Gators' first Friday night spring game.

Zach A's latest mock class - the four he projects to close with are highlighted. Zach has 3 star CB Antonio Nelson, teammate of 5 Star LB Mack Wilson, out of the class with Wilson projected to bama. It looks like a borderline top 5 class to me:
