Zach A's latest mock class - the three he projects to close with are highlighted. It looks like a borderline top 5 class to me: The'16 class looks kind of empty to me.

The SEC didn't take long to approve UF's spring game move to Friday night. It's free to boot. I'm thinking a huge crowd for the game:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — There will be two firsts for Florida football in this year’s spring game.
The Orange & Blue Debut will be held on a Friday and kick off at night.
The game has been scheduled for April 8 at 7 p.m. in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, UF announced Friday. Admission will be free.
Florida’s previous spring games have taken place on Saturday afternoons. The new day and time will be much more convenient for Gators fans, and should draw a large crowd to The Swamp.

This is a good article from SEC Country detailing the hits and misses from the 2012 recruiting classes:
www.seccountry.com/sec-news/four-years-later-reviewing-the-hits-misses-of-the-2012-recruiting-class
Since Austin Appleby transferred into to UF in January from Purdue as a graduate transfer, I particularly liked seeing him listed as a hit for a QB that came out of high school ranked outside the pro QB top 20.
HITS: Pro-style QBs outside the top 20
SUMMARY: As a group, Indiana’s Nate Sudfeld (rank: 23), Florida State’s Sean Maguire (rank: 25), Purdue’s Austin Appleby (rank: 32), Baylor’s Seth Russell (rank: 34), Iowa’s C.J. Beathard (rank: 49) and Memphis’s Paxton Lynch (rank: 84) averaged 2,458 yards passing and 20 passing touchdowns in 2015.
In fact, Lynch (3,778 yards passing, 30 TDs) may be the first or second quarterback taken in the upcoming NFL draft.

Zach A's Mail Bag and Next To Last Mock Class - This from SEC Country & Before Mack Wilson Eliminated UF:
Well my friends, we’ve almost reached the end of the road.
By this time next week, Florida’s 2016 class will be signed, sealed and delivered.
That is, of course, unless we experience another CeCe Jefferson saga. But National Signing Day should be be pretty uneventful for UF compared to last year, which is what happens when you secure 26 commits and a top-five class ahead of time.
I expect the Gators to add two or three more recruits Wednesday, four at the most.
If you’ll remember, Jim McElwain told me after the bowl game he would sign 28-30. UF currently has 28 scholarships available for 2016, excluding walk-ons.
But there’s a good likelihood that the Gators could have a couple transfers between now and the summer, or some signees not qualify for enrollment. With that being the case, I think McElwain would be OK to oversign by one or two spots, especially for a prospect such as Kristian Fulton.
The scholarship numbers would work themselves out by the time recruits reported to campus in July.
Here are the top five questions from this week:
Top two commits with highest probability of flipping away from the Gators?
(From @wafflewolf90)
As it stands now, I don’t see two commits whom Florida could lose to another school.
Despite his trip to Gainesville over the weekend, Alabama is hoping to get UF cornerback pledge Aaron Robinson up to Tuscaloosa for an unofficial visit Saturday. Even if he makes it, he still is more likely to sign with the Gators in my opinion.
They’ve been on him since the summer and recognized his talent months before Alabama, much like they did with Vosean Joseph. Florida is also working with him and being patient on his standardized test score, which will come shortly after signing day.
Both of those factors should go a long way with Robinson and his family. I expect all of UF’s commitments to stick.
Are we anywhere close to hiring a DB coach? If so, who? If not, will we lose out on Fulton because of that?
(From @dallasb123, @cobeingco, @bigburnetteski)
At this point, McElwain probably has a verbal agreement in place. However, it may not be able to come out until after signing day.
He told UF safety commit Jeawon Taylor the next secondary coach is going to be “one of the best in the country.” If I had to guess, I’d say it’s either Corey Raymond of LSU or FAU’s Corey Bell, who worked with Gators linebacker coach Randy Shannon at Miami.
Whoever it is, I have to believe Fulton will find out before his decision so he knows who would be coaching him at Florida. The larger issue with Fulton is getting his father on board with UF.
He’s a big LSU fan, but his son is very high on the Gators and willing to leave the state of Louisiana. This weekend’s trip is more about winning over the dad than Fulton himself.
Does UF’s pursuit of the graduate transfer offensive lineman say anything about the staff’s confidence in landing another HS lineman this cycle?
(From @dwm08e, @cnapsing)
For those who missed it, UF will host former Rhode Island offensive tackle Tyler Catalina on an official visit this weekend.
He’s been offered by the Gators, but I don’t anticipate them accepting a commitment from him until the numbers shake out after signing day. Catalina isn’t transferring until May, so Florida will know if it has room before then.
In-state tackle Marcus Tatum, who picked Tennessee on Jan. 11, was UF’s best shot at landing a fourth prep prospect for the offensive line. Florida is one of two finalists for four-star guard John Simpson, but I view Clemson as a slight favorite for him.
The Gators will have 16 linemen next season with the three commits coming in, which is plenty of depth. But they will add one more player if possible, and it might be a junior college or grad transfer.
Percentages on remaining targets?
(From @parker_brown_, @dupree4three, @kuji112, @bigro94, @tcartertan, @briwash4)
Florida has 12 options still remaining, but just as Joseph did this week, I’m going to separate the real possibilities from the fake.
Safety Chris Brown, offensive lineman Landon Dickerson and linebackers Dontavious Jackson, Jaleel Laguins and Dee Walker are five recruits who Gators fans don’t need to keep up with. They aren’t coming to UF.
Here are seven targets Florida has a legitimate chance with: 1.Brian Burns, DE ◦The skinny: Burns isn’t visiting Alabama this week, so it will come down to Florida, Florida State and Georgia for him. The Gators and Seminoles are neck-and-neck, but I think FSU will pull this one out in the end (barely). ◦Prediction: Florida State ◦Confidence level: 55%
2.Tyrie Cleveland, WR ◦The skinny: He’s currently committed to Houston, but that pledge probably won’t stick. After speaking with him Wednesday night and learning about his family situation (see update Thursday), I’m calling for the flip by Florida. ◦Prediction: Florida ◦Confidence level: 75%
3.Nick Eubanks, TE ◦The skinny: His recruitment will come down to Alabama and Florida. Some feel the Crimson Tide lead, but they have two tight ends in their class. I’m going with the Gators, who get the final visit. ◦Prediction: Florida ◦Confidence level: 70%
4.Kristian Fulton, CB ◦The skinny: I mentioned him above and his father being a potential road block for the Gators. I’ll be surprised if they’re able to get around this one. ◦Prediction: LSU ◦Confidence level: 60%
5.Malcolm Pridgeon, OL (junior college) ◦The skinny: It appeared to be a Baylor-Florida battle coming out of the fall, but Ohio State has entered the mix and will host him this weekend on a visit. His recruitment is a toss-up, but UF has been on him consistently. ◦Prediction: Florida ◦Confidence level: 50%
6.John Simpson, OL ◦The skinny: He’s a hard kid to read, but I do know it’s a close race between Clemson and Florida. Simpson had a great visit to UF, but he’s more familiar with Clemson and it’s closer to home. ◦Prediction: Clemson ◦Confidence level: 55%
7.Lyndell Wilson, LB ◦The skinny: The Gators couldn’t have done a better job recruiting Wilson. They landed his teammate and one of his close friends, got the last visit from him and have the most appealing depth chart at his position. But I don’t think Florida was ever his top school. ◦Prediction: Alabama ◦Confidence level: 80%
Mock Class
(From everyone)
At the end of January, this is what it’s all about.
Here is my last mock class, but I’ll make my final predictions Tuesday night and on my Crystal Ball page.
I’ve mentioned before that UF cornerback commit Antonio Nelson has some work to do in the classroom, but he’s visiting Florida this weekend and it looks like he’ll sign with the Gators. His grades will be worth monitoring in the coming months.
I still have UF at 29 signees.

2.1.2016 - From Zach A. at SEC Country - The 28 is probably Jeremy Foley reminding Mac that UF doesn't oversign as of NSD - UF could take a graduate OL who visited over the weekend or others when ships open after spring transfers. I wish Foley would allow oversigning by a couple of recruits as I can't recall a spring ever that there wasn't a few transfers. Also, the 26 includes a couple of CBs who may not make it in due to either a test score or grades:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida hopes to land a couple more recruits for its 2016 class on National Signing Day.
UF currently has 26 commitments and the scholarship room for 28 signees. The Gators have landed multiple prospects at each position of need, but the potential additions Wednesday could strengthen some of those spots.
Here are the four biggest targets left on Florida’s recruiting board:
1) Tyrie Cleveland, WR, 6-3, 190, Houston (Texas) Westfield
Cleveland is currently committed to Houston, but told SEC Country following his UF visit (see here) that he’s “really looking at Florida, TCU and Arkansas.” The Gators have four wide receivers committed who are each rated four-star prospects by at least two recruiting services. While that makes for a talented haul at the position, it would be an elite group if Cleveland joins. Florida, his dream school growing up, is certainly a legitimate candidate to flip him. Cleveland wants to see the field as a freshman, which shouldn’t be a problem with the Gators. If his aunt and other family members support him leaving the state of Texas, he could be UF bound.
2) Kristian Fulton, CB, 6-0, 177, Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel
Fulton visited LSU, Arkansas and Florida in January, but his recruitment is a battle between the Gators and Tigers. UF only return four cornerbacks for 2016, but there’s five prospects committed at the position and potentially six with Fulton in the mix. Talk about reloading. Even with that much depth, Florida appeals to Fulton because of the departures of Vernon Hargreaves III and Brian Poole. Early playing time is his top priority. LSU took the lead for Fulton following his trip to Baton Rouge, but the Gators made a big impression on him and his parents over the weekend. He probably wouldn’t pick UF without their blessing.
3) John Simpson, OL, 6-4, 290, North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester
The Gators didn’t seem like a team in the running for Simpson during the fall, but Florida is now one of two finalists for him following his visit to Gainesville on Jan. 15. Clemson is other contender, and the in-state school has long been considered his favorite. UF bring backs 13 players and has three commits along the offensive line, so Simpson isn’t a huge need. But given his ability, the U.S. Army All-American could play his way into Florida’s rotation within his first two years. Simpson’s comfort level with the campus and coaches is important to him, and he liked the atmosphere at UF. But he’s also very familiar with Clemson.
4) Brian Burns, DE, 6-5, 212, Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage
Burns is down to Florida, Florida State and Georgia, the three schools he visited last month. UGA once had the edge for him, but it appears he’s down to UF and FSU. As is the case with the aforementioned targets, Burns is not a must-get for Florida at weakside defensive end with five-star Antonneous Clayton in the fold and four-star Jordan Smith already at UF as an early enrollee. But Burns has a strong relationship with Gators defensive line coach Chris Rumph and a few players on the team. One of Burns’ deciding factors is his role in a defensive scheme, and he likes the way Florida utilized Alex McCalister. FSU also uses its pass rushers in a similar fashion.

From SEC Country:
Florida may land a commitment or two during National Signing Day, but there won’t be much TV time for the Gators.
The 13 recruits announcing Wednesday on ESPN don’t include UF’s four remaining targets. Linebacker Dontavious Jackson lists the Gators as a finalist, but they’re just a hat on the table.
Here are the announcement ceremony times (EST) and details for the recruits considering Florida:
8:00 a.m. — Four-star DE Brian Burns at American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla. (Florida, Florida State and Georgia) 9:00 a.m. — Four-star WR Tyrie Cleveland at Westfield High School in Houston, Texas. (Florida, Houston and TCU) 12:30 p.m. — Four-star OL John Simpson at North Dorchester High School in North Charleston, S.C. (Clemson and Florida) 12:45 p.m. — Five-star CB Kristian Fulton at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, La. (Florida and LSU)
SEC Country will be running a live NSD blog and provide constant updates throughout the day on Florida’s signings as well as Periscope from Jim McElwain’s press conference at 3:30 p.m.
ESPN will have some signing day coverage of the Gators across five of its television networks, including ESPNU (8 a.m. — 1 p.m.; 5 p.m. — 7 p.m.), ESPN2 (1 p.m. — 5 p.m.) and SEC Network (10 a.m. — 7 p.m.). ESPN on-site reporter Andrea Adelson will be in Gainesville.

Zach A's final predictions and his mock class. It's drop a 3 star CB from Alabama who didn't make his visit or wasn't allowed to visit by UF and pick up a 5 star WR from Houston, Texas who grew up in Jacksonville as a UF fan and played with UF commit Rick Wells out of Jacksonville. I'm okay with this except it's only 26 players and Coach Mac wanted to sign 28 to 30 players. If OL Simpson doesn't come, that opens the door for the graduate senior transfer from Rhode Island:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — It’s prediction time.
In 24 hours, Florida’s four remaining targets will have announced their decisions (see details).
Who will the Gators close with? Here are SEC Country’s picks:
Brian Burns, four-star DE, Plantation, Fla. (American Heritage)
Florida and Florida State are going head-to-head for a pair of four-star defensive linemen from the Sunshine State who visited both schools together over the past two weekends. Burns will pick between the Gators and Seminoles with UGA also in the mix, while FSU is trying to flip UF commit and four-star defensive tackle Shavar Manuel of IMG Academy. After speaking with Manuel on Monday night, I think he sticks with Florida. If Burns joins him, the Gators would have a talented group of sophomore and freshmen defensive linemen for 2016. That being said, Burns is more of a need for the Seminoles, and they should prevail for his pledge.
Prediction: Florida State
Tyrie Cleveland, four-star WR, Houston (Westfield)
To return to Florida or not? That is the question facing Cleveland, a Jacksonville native who grew up a Gators fan. His finalists are Florida, Houston and TCU, but his offensive coordinator and other people close to him have told me they think he’ll choose between the Cougars and Gators. But while in Gainesville last weekend, Cleveland told a few people (including myself) that Houston was out of it. Maybe a couple nights back home have changed things. In the end, I think Cleveland commits to UF. He’s just too good to not be playing in the SEC, and Florida is an ideal situation for him.
Prediction: Florida
Kristian Fulton, five-star CB, Metairie, La. (Archbishop Rummel)
As expected, Fulton’s recruitment has come down to UF and LSU, according to his father, Keith Fulton. Ranked the nation’s No. 2 cornerback, Fulton could be the next elite player for Florida at his position and has a chance to play early. At LSU, he can be close to home and would still find his way on the field eventually. If the decision is completely up to Fulton, the Gators could very well be the team that lands him. But while his parents may not push him to LSU, their preferences and conveniences are part of Fulton’s considerations and will ultimately influence his decision in my opinion.
Prediction: LSU
John Simpson, four-star OL, North Charleston, S.C. (Fort Dorchester)
This is one is really a toss-up. Simpson rarely picks up for interviews and gives away zero hints when he does. I’ve only spoke with him once. But for what it’s worth, I know he really enjoyed his Florida visit last month and even told a couple people he was thinking about coming to UF. At the time, Simpson also indicated that he wasn’t leaning toward the Tigers. But he has since taken a trip to Clemson, and the in-state school appears to be the more likely destination. I’m going with the Tigers based on that assumption, but his decision could really go either way. It would be a big recruiting upset for Florida.
Prediction: Clemson •In addition to Manuel, I think all of the UF commits making final decisions Wednesday will stick with the Gators. However, with cornerback Antonio Nelson not visiting Florida over the weekend, I expect him to sign elsewhere. •I’m told junior college offensive tackle Malcolm Pridgeon, who visited UF in December, does not have the academic requirements to transfer to an SEC school. He’ll choose between Baylor and Ohio State.

UF ended up with a class of 24. Yesterday, UF was sitting at 26; however, the class had one great addition and 3 defections:
1. Antonio Nelson, 3 star CB, was dropped by UF due to grades. IMO, his teammate Mack Wilson spurning UF didn't help either. 2. Aaron Robinson, 3 star CB, flipped from UF to bama on NSD. 3. Shavar Manuel, 4 star DT, flipped from UF to FSU on NSD. Reported by SEC Country, lack of class work is an issue. 4. Tyre Cleveland, 4/5 star WR, flipped from Houston to UF on NSD.
I don't think this class met all of UF's needs at DT, OL, and LB. Mac wanted to sign 28, so it'll be interesting to see if he pulls any rabbits out of his hat with the available ships like he did last year. Robbie Andreu at the Gainesville Sun I think accurately grades the 2016 recruiting class. UF has 4 underclassmen TEs three of which played last season so I don't agree with Robbie that UF needed to sign a TE in this class. DTs? You take them when you can. Thomas Holley with his chronic hip pain continues to be a concern to me. I grade the class a B+ which is a bit better than Robbie's B:

QUARTERBACK: The Gators needed to sign two and they did — and both are already on campus. Getting highly rated Feleipe Franks to flip from LSU was big. Kyle Trask is an intriguing prospect. Grade: A.
RUNNING BACK: The Gators picked up the top running back in Alabama (Lamical Perine) and added highly regarded junior college transfer Mark Thompson to fill a need. Grade: A.
RECEIVERS: Picking up elite prospect Tyrie Cleveland on signing day was big. This was a huge area of need and the Gators filled it by signing five wide receivers, three whom are early enrollees. Grade: A.
OFFENSIVE LINE: Ideally, you’d like to sign five every recruiting cycle, but the Gators pulled in only three, all three-star recruits. Grade: C+.
DEFENSIVE LINE: UF signed perhaps the nation’s top rush end in five-star Antonneous Clayton, but the Gators failed to sign a tackle after Shavar Manuel bolted to FSU: Grade: B.
LINEBACKER: The Gators managed to sign only three, leaving the numbers still very low at linebacker heading into next season. Grade: C.
SECONDARY: A critical need was filled with the signing of five, led by four-star safety Jeawon Taylor and cornerback McArthur Burnett, an early enrollee. Grade: A.
SPECIAL TEAMS: The Gators filled perhaps their biggest need with the signing of place-kicker Eddy Pineiro, an early enrollee who is already impressing with his ability. Grade: A.
OVERALL: Jim McElwain and his staff did an excellent job filling most of the needs on offense, especially at QB and WR, but the Gators signed only three linemen and did not add a TE. Defensively, it’s a strong class at end and in the secondary. However, needs were not filled at LB and DT. Grade: B.

UF signed a 3 star JUCO CB to make up for losing 3 star CB Aaron Robinson to bama. It's no wonder Bret Bielema was a bit put out with UF this afternoon. This from SEC Country:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida has added a late and surprising addition to its 2016 class.
Junior college cornerback Joseph Putu made a last-second flip from Arkansas to UF on Wednesday. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder committed to the Razorbacks this past Sunday, but Florida offered him hours after that decision.
Putu, who is rated a three-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite, brings the Gators 25 signees.
I still think UF needs an OL, DT, and LB with those last 3 ships to be an A rated class.

UF hires secondary coach - this from SEC Country:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida did more than add recruits to the football program Wednesday.
UF has hired Virginia Tech assistant Torrian Gray to coach defensive backs, according to Thayer Evans of Sports Illustrated.
Gray, 41, brings 16 years of coaching experience in the secondary to Gainesville after spending the past 10 seasons at Virginia Tech, his alma mater. He has coached NFL defensive backs Kam Chancellor, Brandon Flowers and Kyle Fuller during his time with the Hokies.
Gray had previous stints with the Chicago Bears, Connecticut and Maine. He was born and raised in Lakeland, Fla., and is regarded as a strong recruiter.
Florida’s coaching staff is complete with the hiring of Gray, who replaces Kirk Callahan.
