Dan Mullen will be introduced at a Monday afternoon news conference in Gainesville: www.gatorsports.com/2017/11/sources-gators-hire-dan-mullen/If Mullen can win at Mississippi State, he can win big at UF. I kind of think of him as a cross between Urban Meyer being his protégé and Steve Spurrier as he at times has his confidence, mouth, and wit. I suspect UF AD Scott Stricklin got the man he wanted from day 1. He will be a happy man so long as Dan Mullen performs up to expectations of the Bull Gators. I have no doubt Stricklin would have hired Kelly, but he didn't appear to me to be in a hurry to do so when UF had the field to themselves. I had breakfast with a guy who has connections with the Bull Gators. He said that Chip Kelly asked for more money after last Sundays meeting. UF said no and announced they were moving on. That's the UF side of the story. I really do think Dan Mullen will do a good job. At 45 and with 9 years of SEC HC experience, he probably was the best choice of all the candidates. I didn't like his smart mouth at MSU, but he's UF's sob now so he's okay with me.

This shouldn't be another McElwain fiasco, Mullen knows exactly what kind of snake/gator pit he is entering. I'll reserve judgment for 24 to 36 months. The expectations from our mouth breathing Gator brethren will be off the charts.

Our unrealistic Gator brethren who expect it to happen in year 1 will be disappointed and complain loudly. They are starved for a high scoring O and championship success beyond winning the SEC East. Mullen will inherit a good roster made better by the youngsters playing a lot the last two seasons, but it'll take a year to remold the team.

Do you really think the cupboard after 2017 is stocked with much? [/quote] Yes, there are lots of good young and experienced players. Mullen fills the gaps with the 18 and 19 recruiting classes and he'll be off to the races just like Meyer. The lone exception is QB as he isn't walking in to a Chris Leak available for his junior and senior seasons. You can bet Mullen who is excellent with QBs will bring in a top notch QB or two in the next 2 classes. Matt Corral is highly rated and an early enrollee in the UF 18 class. We'll know soon enough if he intends to stick with. Mullen is visiting today with UGALY commit Justin Fields. Fields would be an ideal fit for the spread option at UF and he may not want to stick with UGALY who will have an experienced and highly rated sophomore and junior in front of him in Athens. Both poodle QBs are excellent. I have no idea what they could do with 3 excellent QBs on their roster. Corral would be more like Chris Leak while Fields would be more like Tebow. Mullen won two national championships as OC with UF starting Leak and then Tebow.

How's the bowl preparation coming? And, who will be coaching it?

Also, I read that Fields isn't interested in UF. It is UGA, followed a ways back by FSU. UF is third at best, but he's probably going to end up at UGA. Why, I'm not sure...he goes to UGA, he probably rides the pine for at least a couple years...

Yes, I'm concerned he won't stick, but Mullen has shown he can win big with a Leak or Tebow at QB. If Corral sticks which will be known soon since he's an early enrollee, Mullen would tailor his offense to fit his abilities like he did with Leak. Justin Fields should go to UGALY if he wants to ride the bench for 2 years, but from all I've read, he is the ideal fit for the spread option. Mullen offered a highly rated spread option JUCO QB this week so I suspect he knows Fields isn't visiting or coming. Of course, if Mullen wrangles a visit out of him, anything can happen. He's an early enrollee and he is private with comments so there won't be much drama either way.
