I don't know. You may have seen it around Miami, but doubtful you observed anything of that nature at the other noted schools. Are you a retired college coach,a donating alumnist, former player? You make a good point about the big time schools maybe not needing to do it but I would be VERY surprised if it wasn't still happening at those schools. The term "rouge booster" comes to mind.

The term "rouge booster" comes to mind. What's a red booster?
Seriously, for me, "rogue booster" is just another way of saying "plausible deniability."

I was actually involved with a high school football booster club here in Florida for a number of years. You would be amazed at what you will see and hear if you just keep your eyes and ears open. Again, not saying it doesn't happen, probably happens more often in some places than others, but in places where they consistently win and put guys in the pros, and have high graduation rates, and have coaches who run a tight ship like Saban or Meyer or Richt for that matter, all very respected and respectable, I just have a hard time believing any of those guys or others like Cutcliff or Snyder or Beamer(before he retired)or Dabo would let something like that take place after learning of it in this day and time.

That's one culprit but look no further than the recent scandal in basketball to see how prevalent this stuff still is. Way too much money out there for schools not to try to get their piece of the pie by way of unethical approached.

There's the deal in a nutshell...coaches know what they want to know. Recruiting is a dirty business and lots of shenanigans go on. I recall a few years back at OU when Stoops was "shocked" that Big Red Imports (car dealer) had fake jobs for some players. Didn't believe it then and don't believe it now, but the NCAA went along with it for some reason.

FWIW, I went to OU with Joe Washington too...played a ton of basketball with him and lots of other fotball guys. Truth is, Little Joe wasn't living the high life back then.

My older brother played for OU and I was initially recruited by them as well, before my catastrophic knee injury. Even though my brother was nothing but a scrub there, he saw the side of things you are referring to.

I guarantee you it happens and I guarantee you that most of the coaches know exactly what is going on. I know for a fact that one of our local players who signed with LSU when Nick was there received cash. Not a lot, but he wasn't a big 4-5 star recruit. And Meyer got his hands plenty dirty when he was down here. The one you list who may be the exception is Snyder, but even with him, I'd bet you they have assistant coaches involved in "recruiting" who don't give Bill all the details so that he maintains plausible deniability. The reason they don't get caught? Most of the really outrageous stories you hear, like all the Shapiro stories with Miami, are so out there that if they were really doing everything they are accused of there is no way the NCAA would not pick up on it for years. My understanding is most extra benefits are cash and are just about Untraceable. It's when they try to get into cars, jewelry, houses, etc., which is usually reserved for the really biggest stars available when they leave enough of a paper trail to concern them.

Goes on everywhere in one form or another. Been that way for a long time. Had a friend that played for Oklahoma State...his booster owned a bunch of 7-11's in Tulsa, my friend's summer job was to visit 2-3 stores per week and get $100 in cash from the register. Store turned it in as shrinkage. Went with him on more than one occasion as he clocked in for work. One of those things that would never see the light of day and pretty much untraceable, particularly back in the mid 70's.
