Master Facilities Update: floridagators.com/news/2018/3/23/general-florida-announces-timeline-for-upgrades-to-softball-new-baseball-facility-and-new-stand-alone-football-training-complex.aspxBaseball = new location with an increase to 10,000 capacity. The renovation was changed to using the site for the stand alone sports facility. Stand alone sports facility = 130,000 Sq.Ft. on site of McKethan Stadium. Katie Seashole Presley softball renovation to increase capacity, covered seating, fan support, and a raised press box. $130 million is all needed and will be well spent to make Florida the shiny sports program that everybody believes it should be. The baseball stadium kicks off soon and will be available for the 2020 season. Softball will renovate between the 18 and 19 seasons. The stand alone sports facility will be built last after the baseball stadium is built.

I don't know if this is good, bad, or par for the course since Tim Tebow, but RSO QB Kyle Trask was the steadiest of the four QBs in the Friday afternoon scrimmage in The Swamp: www.seccountry.com/florida/florida-gators-football-spring-scrimmage-kyle-trask-feleipe-franksMy gut tells me UF doesn't have the QB of the future under Dan Mullen on the team. Urban Meyer went 9-4 in his first season with the good roster he inherited from the Zooker and 2 year starter Chris Leak at QB. UF doesn't have the talent and experience of a Chris Leak on this team. If Dan Mullen pulls a rabbit out of the hat to match Urban Meyer's first year record, I'd have to be very happy. Time will tell.

Hey ET, accidentally stumbled across the thread on Anthony Swartz the other day. You had asked me if he was a priority for the U way back. I didn't think he was at the time and some say he was offered while others say he was not. With the look of the kids they did sign at WR I tend to believe he may have had a conditional offer as an athlete, simply because the kid is a burner. But I'd forgotten about the conversation and it appears he wound up at Auburn.

Yeah, I knew about it, but never understood it. The kid wants to play football and run track. Urban Meyer and Dan Mullen encouraged their speedsters to run track. UF football would have been a no brainer. UF's men's track team is the best in the nation year to year, just won the indoor national championship and will be favored to win the outdoor in June. Schwartz's decision to go to Auburn made no sense to me. He came close to committing to UF last summer. He should have been of a mind to commit to a school instead of a coach as he grew up a Gator fan. Sometimes these situations don't work out for the player after they make a decision that they regret later. Byron Cowart did the same thing going to AU instead of UF after Muschamp was fired. It didn't work out and he has since transferred out of AU, not sure where.

2018 Spring Game Guide - Digital & Online: indd.adobe.com/view/7c4a7fc1-445e-4c41-a020-22d3877cc05eThe spring player weights are interesting: LB/DE Jeremiah Moon is down 10 from 228. I hope that is a misprint. NT Tedarrell Slaton is down to 349 from 356. He's 6'4" and extremely athletic for his size. LB James Houston is up to 233 from 227 after being suspended in year 1. He was injured his senior HS season, but he was 4 star rated before the injury. DE/LB CeCe Jefferson is back up to 261 from 240. He's NFL ready moving back up in weight. Marlon Dunlap, the DT transfer from UNC who sat out 17, is 6'3"/328. The roster looks good enough for Mullen to win 8, maybe 9 games, even with the continued uncertainty at QB. If I had to make a prediction today, I'd predict 9 wins as Dan Mullen has a history of good QB development. Urban Meyer won 9 in his first season with Chris Leak who was never a runner which required Meyer to design his offense around Chris' skill set. In combo with Tim Tebow, the O was good enough to win a national championship in year 2. Mullen has several QBs on the roster who he can develop to do both passing and at least some running when it's available. JMHO, true freshman Emory Jones needs a RS year as he is 6'2"/192 which is too light for the SEC. I wouldn't rule out a Tebow 06 role coming in behind the starter, but I'd be afraid of him being injured by the physical SEC defenses. Timmy was 235 as a true freshman: The OL is in put up or shut up time. OL coach John Hevesy is riding them hard. Hevesy was with UF with Urban, but went to Ole Miss with Dan. After the starting DBs, it gets a bit shaky in the secondary. Some of the DBs will have to show up better for 18 to have adequate depth. There is no lack of size, speed, or depth on the DL - probably can play 4 deep. The DL is a real team strength. LB depth has been bolstered by the return of several LBs who were suspended in 17, Houston and Miller, the continued development of other LBs, the two 2 star LBs from Miami are practicing well this spring, and some DEs who will play with their hand up at OLB in the 4/3 defense UF is moving to. The size of the WRs and TEs is impressive. UF just needs a QB who can get the ball to them. I hope WRs Van Jefferson and Trevon Grimes are both cleared by the NCAA to play in 18. Jefferson is 6'2"/192/proven talent from Ole Miss (think Tyree Cleveland 6'2"/196 finally living up to his full potential) and Grimes is 6'5"/214/raw, but talented from Ohio State so he can play closer to home due to a family medical emergency. At this time, nobody knows what the NCAA will decide. The weights will be updated again for the 18 season guide before the players report for summer camp. The incoming frosh that didn't EE will be there.

Gators get QB commit for the 2019 class: www.seccountry.com/floridaJalon Jones, 6'4"/205 & 10th ranked Dual threat QB, committed to UF on Saturday morning. As a rising senior, I like his measurable. I can see him playing at 230 after a year in UF's strength and conditioning program. He was once committed to Mississippi State when Dan Mullen was there so he has followed Mullen to UF.

Mississippi State and LSU both passed on hiring Steve Spurrier in the 80s before Duke had the good fortune of making the right decision to hire him: www.seccountry.com/florida/steve-spurrier-mississippi-state-lsu-florida-coaching-jobs-radio-interviewI've known for a long time that LSU passed on Spurrier to hire Mike Archer, but this is the first time I've heard about Mississippi State choosing to hire Rocky Felker over Spurrier. Unlike the author of the article who wouldn't speculate about what Spurrier would have done at Mississippi State and LSU, I don't think it is a big leap to conclude that Spurrier would have at least put up South Carolina numbers at Mississippi State and likely Florida numbers at LSU.
