Florida finished with its highest final AP ranking in 2018 since 2009: floridagators.com/news/2019/1/8/football-gators-ranked-no-7-in-final-ap-poll.aspxThe Gators finished in a tie with Georgia at #7. Four SEC teams finished in the top 10: 2. Alabama 6. LSU 7T. Florida 7T. Georgia With 12 Kentucky and 16 Texas A&M, the SEC finished with 6 of the top 16. Mississippi State, Auburn, and Missouri finished outside the top 25, but inside the top 34. That gives the SEC 9 of the top 34 teams. LOL...pretty selective.

I'm slow sometimes. Can you be more clear? Talking about that 9 of 34 noise, doesn't mean anything at all. At least it doesn't to me. You're trying (I think) to prop up the SEC after last night's game. Alabama lost and SEC teams went .500 in bowl season. That's the reality and it is what it is.

It's a talking point for my use later. Since you overlooked it, I punk slapped Saban using the HBC on the main page so no attempt to prop up the SEC after the game last night. The SEC is what it is and I feel no need to defend anything. Rankings? Absolutely matter. If OU had a few down years, you'd feel a lot differently. Most everybody except you uses the rankings to make points and especially so in the offseason. UF at 7 in the AP has its highest ranking since finishing at 3 in 2009. It's a BFD to me. It gives me hope for the future of UF football with Dan Mullen at the controls. Bowls? The SEC has done better and worse (shrug), but no other P5 conference did that good this year either. All I care about coming out of the bowls is that UF broke their 0-3 record in Peach Bowls and their 0-4 record against Michigan.

As for bowl season, I think it shows the relative parity in cfb. JMO.

Yes, to a degree, the bowls do illustrate conference strength. However, so long as we have conference tie ins the way we do and so many uneven matchups, it is hard for me to take the bowls too seriously. Beyond the playoff, it's still a reward for a good season that comes with 13 prized extra practice sessions. I much prefer using the final AP and Coaches polls to point to relative strength among teams and conferences. When you get to the end of the season and the bowls, it doesn't get any more definitive than that except that the playoff deals us a recognized national champion. The media and the coaches agree on the top 25 with the exception of some minor differences in the rankings. At least we have a good idea who the top 25 teams are after the 2018 season.

Florida finished at #6 in the final 2018 Coaches Poll: www.espn.com/college-football/rankings/_/poll/2/week/1/year/2018/seasontype/31. Clemson 2. Alabama 3. Ohio State 4. Oklahoma 5. Notre Dame 6. Florida 7. LSU 8. Georgia 9. Texas 10. Washington State The #6 ranking replaces the #7 ranking in the AP released earlier today as the Gators highest ranking since 2009 when Florida finished #3 after trouncing unbeaten Cincinnati 51-24 in the Sugar Bowl. The SEC has 4 of the top 10, 6 of the top 16, and 9 of the top 33.

Yes, to a degree, the bowls do illustrate conference strength. However, so long as we have conference tie ins the way we do and so many uneven matchups, in the sEC Bowl matchups this year, how many were ranked playing an unranked team? How many were higher ranked? how many sEC teams % wise were favored going into the games. .500 shows much more than parity.

The B1G would have really sucked on your silly bowl scale.

I don't recall any "mismatches" involving SEC teams...could be wrong as I don't follow SEC all that much, but AFAIK most SEC teams were favored in their bowl game. That said, I believe every Big 12 team was a betting underdog, so going 4-3 is pretty good, I guess.

Georgia was higher ranked, and favored to win, but didn't by my count, sEC is 1 down.........but wait, there's more, Miss St was ranked, IOWA was not ranked, Miss St was favored, but lost......so by my count, the sEC is two down.. shall i continue?

Once again, the voice of reason.........the B12 should have been 0-7 according to vegas, and the sEC should have been 9-2.

Do what you want. The only thing I care about from the bowls is that Florida handed favored and higher ranked Michigan a woodshed whipping. That's a huge 1 up for me.

UF picks up very good graduate transfer rush DE Jonathan Greenard from Louisville: 247sports.com/college/florida/Article/Florida-Gators-Football-Jon-Greenard-transfers-to-UF-as-graduate-transfer-127600652/www.gatorcountry.com/feature/jonathan-greenard-transfers-to-florida-gators/Jon Greenard played for Grantham for 1 season at Louisville. He was projected to be Louisville's best pass rusher last season before he tore ligaments in his wrist in the opener against Alabama which was a season ending injury. He is a graduate senior transfer, but I'm sure a medical redshirt request will be filed which would give Greenard 2 years to play if approved by the NCAA. At 6'4"/263, he is an ideal fit for rush DE in Grantham's defensive system. The graduate transfer DL we got in for the 18 season, Adam Shuler from West Virginia who has chosen to play the 19 season with the Gators too, worked his way into starter at the rush DT slot. I expect Greenard to compete for rush DE starter or certainly be in the rotation as Grantham plays a lot of DL throughout each game and the season.
