i wonder what other coaches are going to get big raises thanks to texas, before the horns finally find a new man. mark scott tosu 81 happy 2014 I don't know....but whomever takes the job better be a politician first and a coach second. With Dodds leaving there is a power vacuum between the new A.D., the Regents and school President. Not to mention the boosters. Dodds had Mack Brown's back for all those years and the new guy won't have that luxury. Anybody considering the Hubris U. job should think long and hard about the decision. agreed. the bigger the $$, the shorter the leash in terms of patience. brown definitely brought texas back onto the front burner in terms of national relevance. the horns had not been a consistent top rated team since the late 60s/early 70s... their stretch from '01-'09 was one of the best in school history, and the explosive infusion of financial resources into the program corresponded w/that success. they will be big shoes to fill. mark scott tosu 81 happy 2014

Spurrier is too old. I hope he retires soon and comes home.

The new guy has huge expectations and a new AD. Big differences.

Anybody considering the Hubris U. job should think long and hard about the decision.
Bobby Bowden comes out of retirement. But someone of his persona, if there is anyone like that, would survive and thrive. Though they are probably not interested, Jon Gruden would do well as would Spurrier.
I wonder if Gruden could handle the politics and the recruiting? IMO, no....but again, jmo.

That would be surprising, but I guess stranger things have happened. I agree that Texas needs an up and comer, but Briles is 58 years so don't know if that fits him. Besides that, Baylor seems to agree with him and his personality. He seems to like being the underdog. We'll see though.

I'm thinking Charlie Strong or Jimbo Fisher. Six plus million dollars a year would be tough for anyone to turn down.

James Franklin is from Pennsylvania. I think PSU will consider him in their coaching search. I can't imagine Texas would take Franklin from a school that doesn't have an athletic director.

Spurrier would not go to Texas at this point in his career. He will by 69 in April and I honestly wonder how many more years he plans to coach. I admit, I love watching South Carolina play as SOS always has something up his sleeve and his offense is entertaining. Besides, he went to SC because when he came back to college he wanted to coach in the SEC even though Bad Bernie at UF told him he had to interview there for the job.

Gators Pickup DL Commitment at the Under Armour Game - this from the Gainesville Sun:
Top defensive lineman chooses Florida By Zach Abolverdi Correspondent
Published: Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 5:37 p.m.
Last Modified: Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 5:37 p.m.
Florida pulled off a major recruiting upset at Thursday's Under Armour All-America Game.
During the broadcast, New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr defensive lineman Gerald Willis III picked UF over LSU in a shocking decision.
“I'm taking my talents to Gainesville, Florida,” Willis announced.
The 6-foot-3, 275-pounder was long considered a lean to the in-state Tigers and took three trips to Baton Rouge during the fall, including his last official visit of the recruiting process last month.
But the Gators, who hosted Willis in November, won him over with their need on the defensive line.
Willis will be the first prep prospect from Louisiana to sign with UF since 2001.
And he's a good one.
A consensus top-50 player, Willis is ranked the No. 3 defensive tackle by ESPN and the No. 5 strongside defensive end by Rivals. Scout rates him as a five-star recruit.
The Gators now have 19 members in their 2014 class, including 11 from the ESPN 300 with the addition of Willis. Verbal commitments are not binding until prospects sign their national letters of intent on Feb. 5.

From Gator Country:
Written by Andrew Spivey, January 2, 2014
ST. PETERSBURG — Cornerback Quincy Wilson (6-2, 195, Fort Lauderdale, FL University) spent his Under Armour All-American week as the University of Florida’s most visible and vocal ambassador and the de facto recruiting coordinator.
“I was recruiting Dalvin (Cook), Ermon (Lane), and JC (Jackson) mostly,” Wilson said Thursday after the Under Armour All-American Bowl game was played at Tropicana Field. “I was also recruiting Lorenzo Carter, Adoree (Jackson) and Jeff Jones. I think we will get Jeff Jones this year.”
On Tuesday Wilson found out that one of the Gators commits he was recruiting was flipping to FSU and while Florida fans felt trolled the Gators commit felt lied to as well.
“I kind of feel betrayed ,” Wilson said. “He recruited me and (Ermon) Lane all summer and sent us the 100 texts and stuff. Me and Ermon told him when he flipped, you recruited us and then flipped on us.“
While Wilson feels betrayed he also understands what Cook was going through and respects his decision after all.
“It’s life and he’s going to do what’s best for him and his next four years,” Wilson said. “I think the fans blew it out of proportion some and I feel like he had to what he had to do for himself.”
If Wilson had been in Cook’s shoes he says he would have done things much differently.
“I think I would have decommitted way early,” Wilson said. “That away fans wouldn’t have been mad and stuff.”
Wide receiver Ermon Lane, who committed to Florida with Wilson, is rumored to be waffling on his commitment but Wilson doesn’t think so.
“I don’t think Ermon is going anywhere,” Wilson said. “His mom told him he better not go anywhere.”
As far as the game goes, Wilson’s team feel short on the field but overall he enjoyed his week as an Under Armour All-American.
“The game was great we a couple of breakdowns on defense,” Wilson said. “The big thing for me is transitioning to the faster pace.”
Wilson ended his week by saying “GO Gators,” Wilson said. “Gator Nation all day.”

UF gets former committed Louisville EE OL from Jacksonville with Charlie Strong moving to Texas. He'll enroll in UF tomorrow. He's rated 4 stars on ESPN and 3 stars on 247 Sports, Rivals, and Scout. He won the 3A Florida state championship with Jax Trinity Christian:
Written by Andrew Spivey, January 5, 2014
The Florida Gators received some unexpected good news on Sunday afternoon when former Louisville offensive linemen commit Kavaris Harkless (6-5, 275, Jacksonville, FL Trinity Christian) decommitted from the Cardinals and committed to the Gators.
Harkless decommitted just hours after the news broke that Charlie Strong was leaving Louisville to head to Texas and their job opening.
Florida offered Harkless in December but never really gained much interest from the Jacksonville star since Harkless is an early enrollee and was all set to enroll at Louisville.
Things changed, however, when Strong took the Texas job. Harkless committed to the Gators and will enroll and start classes on Monday. He will be eligible to compete in spring practice.
Harkless is the 20th member of the Class of 2014 and joins Dontae Angus, Travaris Dorsey, Nolan Kelleher, David Sharpe and Drew Sarvary as offensive line commits for Florida.
Harkless is the eighth early enrollee, joining Kelleher, Sarvary, Taven Bryan, Duke Dawson, Deandre Goolsby, Will Grier and Gerald Willis.
