Florida's seven early enrollees
Taven Bryan, OL, Casper (Wyo.), 6'5"/250 Duke Dawson, DB, Cross City Dixie County, 5'11"/195 DeAndre Goolsby, TE, Derby (Kan.), 6'4"/225 Will Grier, QB, Davidson (N.C.) Day, 6'2"/187 Karvaris Harkless, OL, Jacksonville Trinity Christian, 6'5"/275 Nolan Kelleher, OL, Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Wando, 6'6"/315 Drew Sarvary, OT, Tyler (Texas) JC/Tallahassee North Florida Christian, 6'5"/318
I don't know the story, but 5 star DE/DT Gerald Willis III, 6'3"/270, will not EE as originally planned. Word is he's solid and didn't delay due to wavering. He's from Louisiana, New Orleans Edna Karr, and his mother wants him at LSU so I don't like the extra time for LSU and his mother to stay on him. If it's UF Admissions causing the delay and we lose Willis, I'll be ticked off to the max.

UF can now sign up to 25 in the 14 recruiting class - Ronald Powell going pro - From Gatorzone:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida defensive lineman/linebacker Ronald Powell announced on Monday that he will forego his final year of eligibility with the Gators’ football program and enter the 2014 NFL Draft.
“Ronald has informed me that he has made a decision to declare for the NFL Draft,” said head coach Will Muschamp. “This hasn’t been an easy decision for him. I talked to him several times over the Holidays, but it was important for him to come back and look me in the eye and tell me what he wanted to do and why he wanted to do it. It’s one of the great experiences as a coach to watch young players mature. It’s been well documented the hardships he has had to overcome and he has always kept a positive attitude. I wish him the best of luck and, as I’ve said before, I encouraged him to return to get his degree.”
Powell, who missed the 2012 season due to injury, returned to full strength in 2013 and played in 11 games with eight starts. He led the team with four sacks and had eight quarterback hurries and was second on the team with seven tackles-for-loss. In his career with the Gators, Powell totaled 84 tackles with 19 tackles-for-loss and 11 sacks.
“I want to thank the entire Gator Nation for making a kid from California a part of their family,” said Powell. “It’s hard to put into words what this whole experience has been for me. I’ve had so many opportunities and met so many people. All of them have been supportive and helpful in my time here. Because of that, I’ve had a chance to grow and mature into the man I am today and the man I am going to become in the future. This hasn’t been an easy decision because this is a tough place to walk away from - but really you never walk away from being a Gator. I never thought it would be this hard to make this decision – most people think it’s easy – go for the money. It’s hard to leave my brothers behind, but we’ve shared so much more than our time on the field. We’ve lived our lives together and we are truly a family. This place has so many memories that I will carry forever and I will never forget my coaches, teammates, trainers, strength staff, professors and the entire support staff that helped me during my time here. I wouldn’t trade anything I’ve experienced because they have all helped me grow. I will miss running out of the tunnel into The Swamp and all of the tradition and great rivalries. It has been an honor to be a part of Gator history and I will always represent The Gator Nation and bleed Orange and Blue. Thanks again to everyone and much love for The Gator Nation. Once a Gator, Always a Gator! Go Gators!”
Powell is the third Gator to declare early for the 2014 Draft – joining defensive backs Loucheiz Purifoy and Marcus Roberson.

Gators Pickup DL Commitment at the Under Armour Game - this from the Gainesville Sun: Top defensive lineman chooses Florida By Zach Abolverdi Correspondent Published: Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 5:37 p.m. Last Modified: Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 5:37 p.m. Florida pulled off a major recruiting upset at Thursday's Under Armour All-America Game. During the broadcast, New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr defensive lineman Gerald Willis III picked UF over LSU in a shocking decision. “I'm taking my talents to Gainesville, Florida,” Willis announced. The 6-foot-3, 275-pounder was long considered a lean to the in-state Tigers and took three trips to Baton Rouge during the fall, including his last official visit of the recruiting process last month. But the Gators, who hosted Willis in November, won him over with their need on the defensive line. Willis will be the first prep prospect from Louisiana to sign with UF since 2001. And he's a good one. A consensus top-50 player, Willis is ranked the No. 3 defensive tackle by ESPN and the No. 5 strongside defensive end by Rivals. Scout rates him as a five-star recruit. The Gators now have 19 members in their 2014 class, including 11 from the ESPN 300 with the addition of Willis. Verbal commitments are not binding until prospects sign their national letters of intent on Feb. 5. Someone needs to tell these kids that the "taking my talents to" in wherever has run its course.

Willis was going to be an EE today, but now he isn't. It's rumored that UF Admissions isn't ready to admit him. If UF Admissions cost UF a 5 star DE/DT, I'm going to be pissed off. I agree with you on taking talent anywhere. It sounds too much like Dalvin Cook, Ermon Lane, and JC Jackson.

UF Hires OL Coach:
Monday January 6, 2014
Muschamp Announces Hiring of Mike Summers as Offensive Line Coach By SCOTT CARTER GatorZone.com Senior Writer
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The revamping of Gators coach Will Muschamp’s staff is complete.
Muschamp announced Monday that he has hired Mike Summers as offensive line coach. A native of Kentucky, Summers has SEC and NFL experience after spending last season at USC. Summers will rejoin former Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips at Florida.
Phillips hired Summers as offensive line coach/run game coordinator at Kentucky in 2010 when he took over the program. The Wildcats averaged 6.1 yards per carry in Summers’ first season, the second-best mark in the program’s history.
“I’m excited to have Coach Summers join our staff,” said Muschamp. “He has 34 years of experience, has been an offensive coordinator for 15 years and has coached in the SEC. He has a diverse background and has experience in the NFL. He will be a great addition to our staff.”
The hiring of Summers caps a busy month for Muschamp, who has added offensive coordinator Kurt Roper, special-teams coordinator Coleman Hutzler and director of player personnel Drew Hughes since the end of the regular season.
In Summers’ only season at USC, the Trojans averaged 172.8 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry. The Gators averaged 3.6 yards per rush and 145.8 per game in 2013.
The 57-year-old Summers is a veteran of the SEC. He started his career as a graduate assistant at Kentucky in 1980 and was hired at Arkansas by Bobby Petrino in 2008 as assistant head coach/offensive line coach.
After two seasons with the Razorbacks, Summers returned home to join Phillips’ inaugural staff at Kentucky. Summers is married to the former Kathy Hall, daughter of former Kentucky basketball coach Joe B. Hall.
Summers has a strong history of producing results and was one of 29 nominees for the Frank Broyles Award, given annually to college football’s top assistant coach, in 2012. He also has more than a decade’s experience calling plays as offensive coordinator at Northern Illinois, Oregon State and the University of the South.
“I’m honored to be joining Coach Muschamp and his staff,” said Summers. “I have the utmost respect for Coach Muschamp, the staff and the support system in place. Having been in the SEC I have always held the Florida program in high regard and I’m looking forward to getting right to work.”
Summers teamed with Petrino at Louisville and helped the Cardinals rush for a school-record 3,005 yards in 2004 and lead the nation in total offense.
With the Trojans undergoing staff changes after the season, Summers was targeted by Muschamp to replace Tim Davis.
Summers has also spent time at Texas A&M (1982-85), Oklahoma State (2000), Ohio (2001-02) and a season with the Atlanta Falcons (2007).
During his time at Louisville, Summers coached center Eric Wood, a first-round NFL draft pick and currently a captain and starter for the Buffalo Bills.
Summers grew up in Lexington, Ky., and played defensive back at Georgetown (Ky.) College.

We have a Juco DT, Michael Wyche, who is being held up because an ACC rule says a juco player must have been at his last juco three semesters and he was only at his two. Had to transfer due to I believe his mothers sickness. Has his Associates degree and will likely win his appeal and get in within a few days but this is the kind of crap you hit with admissions sometimes.

Robbies Playbook Gators rank high (in value) Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 4:06 by Robbie Andreu
Florida’s disappointing 4-8 season plunged the Gators out of the top 25 (after starting the season at No. 10) and all the way to fourth in their own state behind FSU, Miami and UCF. But Florida’s program remains among the elite in college football (and No. 1 in the SEC and in the state) in terms of value.
In terms of valuation based on revenue, growth and and other factors, UF’s football program is No. 5 in the nation with a value of $660.8 million, according to a story in the Wall Street Journal.
The nation’s No. 1 program is Texas ($875.0 million). There are four other SEC teams in the top 10 — No. 7 Alabama (640.1), No. 8 Georgia (581.8), No. 9 Auburn (537.7) and No. 10 LSU (529.8).
Among Florida’s in-state rivals, national champion Florida State is 22nd (277.9) and Miami is 35th (180.8).
The top 10 most valuable programs in college football (figures in millions)
School Value
1. Texas 875.0
2. Notre Dame 811.5
3. Michigan 685.5
4. Ohio State 674.8

Last Modified: Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 2:29 p.m.
Florida coach Billy Donovan was named a co-recipient of the 2013 USA Basketball National Coach of the Year after leading the USA men to a 9-0 record and a gold medal at last summer's 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships.
Donovan is being honored along with Katie Meier of the University of Miami, who led the USA U19 women to the same outcome.
"This was such a special event, and I'm very thankful to USA Basketball for the opportunity to coach this team and appreciative of this honor," Donovan said. "I thought the people in the Czech Republic did a great job hosting the World Championship. Prague was a great city... I thought the USA did a really great job of fielding a good team and providing a lot of options to put together a great team."
The USA Basketball Board of Directors is responsible for selecting USA Basketball's annual awards.
"Billy and Katie provided tremendous leadership for our U19 teams, and the results they achieved in a competition that is so challenging were impressive," said Jim Tooley, USA Basketball CEO/Executive Director. "Not only did the U.S. teams win, but they played with passion and demonstrated great sportsmanship, and that is a credit to these two respected coaches."

UF Flips CB Jalen Tabor From Arizona - will be the 8th EE come Monday and the 2nd 5 star commit while still in the dead period:

Tabor flips to Florida
by Zach Abolverdi
For the second straight year, Florida has flipped a Rivals.com five-star recruit during the week of early enrollment.
One week removed from his commitment to Arizona at the Under Armour All-America Game, cornerback Jalen Tabor (Washington, D.C./Friendship Academy) pulled a shocker Thursday and chose attend UF instead.
Tabor’s flip-flip is similar to that of linebacker Alex Anzalone, who switched from Notre Dame to Florida the day before his early enrollment.
The Gators led for Tabor in the summer and hosted him on an official visit in early December, but he named Alabama and Arizona his finalists on Christmas.
Two days after deciding on the Wildcats, UF junior cornerback Marcus Roberson announced he would forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.
That news, along with the closeness to home and his relationship with Florida coach Will Muschamp and assistant Travaris Robinson, proved to be the difference for the Gators.
UF now has 21 members in its 2014 class and eight enrollees with the addition of Tabor.

Dickie V comments on NCAA delay in Chris Walker decision:
Hoops Scoop Dickie V: NCAA needs to stop dragging feet on Chris Walker Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 10:35 by Kevin Brockway
Count ESPN veteran basketball analyst Dick Vitale as one who thinks the saga surrounding freshman McDonald’s All-American power forward Chris Walker is getting ridiculous.
Vitale went on the offensive in discussing Walker’s status during an ESPN conference call on Wednesday. The 6-foot-10 Walker has practiced at UF since Dec. 16 and is enrolled in school but hasn’t been cleared for competition by the NCAA.
““I have a very, very tough time dealing with the NCAA in the unbelievable procrastination in making decisions that affect so many peoples’ lives – players lives, teammates lives, fans, coaches, everybody involved,” Vitale said. “And I don’t understand – we’re not looking for a cure for cancer – we’re trying to find out whether a player can be eligible. And I have a real problem over the years with the incredible delay it takes in determining eligibility.”
Walker’s clearance issues presumably stems from his ties with his former AAU coach, Matt Ramker. In the summer of 2012, Walker was part of Ramker’s travel team that was shut down due its alleged ties with an agent. Also, there are unconfirmed reports that Ramker may have financially assisted Walker on a recruiting visit.
Following UF’s SEC-opening 74-58 win over South Carolina, Donovan said that Walker’s status hasn’t changed. Walker has sat out five games since joining the team.
“Hopefully at some point he’ll be able to get on the court for us,” Donovan said.

Powell chooses to chase dream at UF
by Zach Abolverdi
Since the decommitment of Miami Central’s Dalvin Cook on New Year’s Eve, the Florida football coaches have been searching high and low for a quality running back to replace him.
On Friday, they got their guy.
Miami pledge Brandon Powell flipped to the Gators according to his head coach at Deerfield Beach, Allen Jackson.
“He is a Gator,” Jackson informed The Sun through text message.
Powell, a member of the Rivals250 and ESPN300, made his initial commitment to Tennessee in the summer and then switched to Miami in August. In addition to those schools, he also officially visited Nebraska and West Virginia.
But UF was always Powell’s first choice and dream school, Jackson said, and an offer from coach Will Muschamp on Wednesday threw a wrench into his plans to enroll early at UM.
After talking things over with his family Thursday night, Powell decided to attend Florida.
The 5-foot-9, 172-pounder was named Broward County’s Class 8A-7A-6A Player of the Year in 2013. He rushed for 1,339 yards and 20 touchdowns on 141 carries as a senior, finishing with the second-most rushing yards among Class 8A running backs in Broward County.
He also had 21 catches for 289 yards and two touchdowns, as well as 452 yards and one touchdown on kick and punt returns.
The Gators now have 21 members and nine early enrollees in their class with the addition of Powell, who is the third 2014 recruit to flip to UF during early enrollment this week.

Hate to lose Powell, but if he will flip the day he gets offered in January then his heart was never in Coral Gables. Think he would have been a solid backup to Duke and Yearby and a good potential slot receiver. Hope he does well at UF.
