Saw Marcus Marek mentioned elsewhere...didn't realize that he never played in the NoFunLeague, only three years in the USFL...anyone know why? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, as I recall, he WAS talented... Played for Boston in the usfl. After it folded I don't remember him being in any nfl camp. He did stay and set down roots in New England. Thought he got into the fishing or lobster business. He does come back to campus for a couple games a season. He was a stud. Yeah, my search yesterday turned up this link from the Alumni Mag - digital.watkinsprinting.com/publication/?i=180863&p=6

2016 spring practice gets underway tomorrow. begins the search to replace 16 starters from a group that's gone 50-4 the last 4 years. tall task, and one that hasn't happened ever to that magnitude as far as i remember. similar scenarios; '71, the year after the super sophs departed, who went 27-2 w/a national title. there was talent but no depth, and late season injuries depleted the offense, leading to 3 starting losses to end a 6-4 season. '76, the year after archie's class graduated, who went 40-5-1. team fared a little better, going 9-2-1 w/an orange bowl win but got pounded 22-0 by um. only recent season approaching '16 was in '04. 13 starters needed replaced (14 got drafted in the '04 nfl draft including punter bj sander)... and it showed. 1st 3 game losing streak in a season since coop's 1st season ('88). qb struggles that eventually led to troy smith getting a shot. 8-4, but a win over um and an alamo bowl win over oklahoma state, setting the table for a run of 66-11 the next 6 seasons.
so... this year. 3 starters back on offense (jt barrett at qb, billy price and pat elflein on the o-line), and 3 on defense (cb gareon conley, lb raekwan mcmillan, de tyquan lewis). there are only 5 full scholarship seniors currently on the roster. 23 members of the '16 recruiting class... and 21 players who were redshirted as frosh last year. that makes 44 players out of 85 who have never played a down in cfb on the roster. wow.

I asked a while ago about returning lettermen...I don't remember ever getting an answer, if anyone even knows. We all know we have talent returning, but we don't know about how much playing time is returning...or at least, I don't. Anyone know for sure? Oh, and anyone that would be willing to shed a little light on the subject?

Some discussion...wiki (& most stories/journalists) are saying Lovie Smith was in Columbus in 1995. On the official OSU site, he's not listed, Jon Tenuta is listed as the DB coach that year. Someone mentioned they thought Smith was an early off-season hire, and before fall camp began, was hired away by an NFL team, but no mention of that has been found (yet). I don't have any real memories of that season; it was a hell of a busy year for me personally...anyone able to fill in the gaps?

John Tenuta was part of the 96 regeneration of the defensive side of the ball, known as the silver bullets. half the D staff was fired after the showing against michigan and tennessee
smith was part of the problem along with the D coord.

thx for posting, dale. what a fantastic list. apple, bell, powell and future buckeyes have some high bars to reach the levels of that group.

Pro Day tomorrow - BSPiN calls this 'impressive.' The Buckeyes have 125 NFL representatives RSVP for Pro-Day tomorrow at the WHAC.

The Buckeyes have 125 NFL representatives RSVP for Pro-Day tomorrow at the WHAC. yes, espn is giving the bucks lots of exposure today. they're live at the woody today, calling it the largest pro day in nfl history to date. lots of talk about what jones and miller need to accomplish. jones... more consistency on his throws. miller... some debate about his 40... 4.4 or 4.5. galloway says as a slot guy in the pros its more about moves and separation than speed.
