Lots of buzz__Fickell to Cincy Cincinnati will hire Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell, according to multiple reports, including a sourced story by ESPN. According to that ESPN report, Fickell and the Bearcats reached an agreement late Friday night and an official announcement will come late Saturday. Fickell, 43, replaces Tommy Tuberville, who resigned last Sunday. Tuberville was 29-22 in four seasons with the Bearcats, but managed just a 4-8 record this season. Fickell, a former Ohio State defensive lineman, has been with his alma mater since 2002 and has served as a defensive coordinator in every season since 2005. In 2011, he was the school’s interim head coach following the resignation of coach Jim Tressel amid an NCAA investigation regarding players trading autographs and memorabilia for tattoos and cash. The Buckeyes went 6-7 under Fickell before hiring current coach Urban Meyer. Fickell is the third assistant from Ohio State’s 2014 national championship team to become a head coach joining Tom Herman, now at Texas, and Chris Ash at Rutgers. If true, for the first time since '92, Luke won't be on the osu sidelines as a player, grad asst or coach. If he ever wants to be the head coach back here, he knows he need to prove it elsewhere first. Guys like dantonio and kelly parlayed success at uc into bigger better things. I hope fick can do the same. His arrival on campus as a freshman coincided w the program's return to national prominence. I don't think that should go unnoticed.

Some Clemson-OSU Comparisons First PointsClem's O Vs OSU D avg 40.2 rank (15) 14.2 (3) C D OSU O 18.4 (12) 42.7 (#9) Not Great big, overwhelmingly better, but significantly. Passing ydsC O OSU D 332.6 (7) 164.5 (5) C D OSU O 188.2 (19) 221.2 (77) Both Ds are better than the Os, but it would appear the passing edge goes to Clem Rushing ydsC O OSU D 173.4 (69) 121.5 (15) C D OSU O 125.8 (22) 258.3 (9) Bucks win both battles on the ground. Add up the stats rankings in these three (important, but HOW important) categories, and statistically, we're ahead by 84 points. Does that mean anything? I don't know, but it is something / someplace to start. Also will throw in that Clemson's numbers include a 59-0 win over FCS South Carolina State. Skews the stats slightly. I think the big edge in the running game favors us more, especially towards the end of the game, and their D tires out from being on the field so much more. Of course, that could well be negated by turnovers, but hey...gotta start any kind of evaluation/guess work SOMEWHERE, right?

Of course, that could well be negated by turnovers, but hey...gotta start any kind of evaluation/guess work SOMEWHERE, right? 3 games come to mind, 2 of the games involved OSU, one PSU. OT vs Wisconsin, final play was the entire D line sacking the QB, OT vs UM, final play was 15yd TD run off left tackle......the 4th quarter in that game was the previews of what to come. OSU was the fresher team late in the game, as it was vs Wisconsin. PSU was the fresher team in the 4th vs Wisconsin. Smash mouth until the other team wilts a bit. VT vs Clemson was settled by game clock. VT was back in the game in the 4th due to being in better condition. Clemson was "saved by the bell" OSU has enough depth on D to tire out an offense......they just need to keep the scoring down. Meyer needs to find a couple of linemen that wants to play their position without locked knees. Barrett, Samuel, Weber, McCall need to keep the chains moving with their feet, the receivers have to get back to early season form, understand that downfield blocking is as important as catching the ball. I'll take OSU in this game and give the points. In games played so far, OSU under Meyer/Fickle, has done well vs teams with Heisman finalists playing for them.
