There's an interview with a Oregon starting OL who said Ohio Sts defense was worse than they expected. That Oregons scout defense was harder to practice against
Their (Oregons coaches) told the Oregon offense that Ohio Sts LBs always over pursue and they did every time. That Ohio St would never crack replace and Ohio St never did.
He said there was many plays where he was suppose to block someone but there wasn't anyone to block cause the defender who he was suppose to block took themselves far out of the play
That the Oregon OC knew everything Ohio Sts defense would do and he was right

I was more upset w/the preponderance of weak side runs where we didn't even have a lb or db on that side of the field; 1 or maybe 2 were stacked atop the de but in no position to get to the boundary. easy to see from c-deck, which why so many of me and my fellow coaches up there were getting ticked. but I was surprised as well that our scheme included no blitzes. brown (their qb) had all day to throw on pass plays. w/the bucks being so young in the defensive backfield too, I'm guessing coombs didn't want to put them on islands, and that would be ok if tosu was up 10-14 points, but the circumstances warranted a more aggressive strategy. oregon really was only ineffective on their final 2 drives.

I believe we'll be seeing more blitzing this week now that Combs won't be calling the defense if I can be Captain Obvious this week 👌

headed down to campus. already 85/sunny here so by game time it's going to be toasty. curious to see how the scheme changes, if at all, on defense. miller was practicing this week so I'm hoping we'll see him at center on offense. we should see our depth as the game goes on. 56-24. o... h...

I...O... HOLY CRAP!!! Our coaches must think we're playing the AFC All-Pro team...Why all the zone coverage? OSU has the better athletes, line 'em up, head to head, and let those boys demonstrate how good they are...This is crazy.

Announced attendance today-76,540. that’s the smallest crowed to see a game here literally in decades. obviously day is emphasizing the run game and henderson came thru here in 3rd qtr.
on d the best zone in the world can get picked apart if you don’t get to the passer. in the first half tulsa had all day. we started mixing in a couple blitzes midway thru 2nd qtr and it’s made a difference.

I wonder if the continuing normalization of a more professional atmosphere within cfb today may be turning a % of folks off, especially to non high profile home games. 7. it was damn hot there today (hit 90 during the game). I'm wondering if next week's game, which is now a 7:30 start vs akron, will have similar, or maybe even lower numbers.

the view from 26c... 1. til there was about 6:00 left in the game (which seemed to last 4 hours), the view was blinded by a pretty hot sun. 2. this seemed like a game that would've happened the last time an ohio stadium crowd totaled around 76k; an osu team focused almost exclusively on a ground attack to win a game vs a seemingly inferior opponent. 3. yes, it was tulsa, but treveyon henderson showed just how special his potential is. this is what he did in the 3rd qtr when he took over the game. 4 yd run 4 yd run 48 yd td run 54 yd run (this was the one where he also was called for grabbing a face mask) 3 yd run 52 yd td run that's 6 carries for 165 yds and 2 td's in 15 minutes. if that's not the most dominant quarter of running by a buckeye back in program history, it has to be damn close. 4. 41 carries for 323 yds as a team (277 by henderson on 24 carries) is nearly 8 per carry. pretty clear that ryan day's game plan was focused on the ground game, which is why we saw henderson get the start. kudos to the o-line today, not just for the explosion runs but also the consistency. not a lot of negative running plays. hoping munford's injury is not serious. 5. that could be more if stroud, even just a couple times, faked the belly play (dating myself calling it that-lol)... I'm hoping that's seen by the staff for use down the road. 6. olave did a lot of clearing out zones for other receivers to fill today. I only recall him be targeted 3 times; one overthrow, he had a drop, then caught a gorgeous bomb from stroud only to have it called back due to offensive facemark call by the o-line. think we had 80 yds in penalties. ugh. 7. garrett wilson, with every acrobatic catch, reminds me more and more of cris carter. 8. stroud started poorly (2-6 in the 1st qtr I think), got a little more accurate in the middle of the game before struggling more at the end. imho he's still taking an extra beat or two to make his progressions. that'll come with time. but 2 turnovers cannot continue. 9. the defense. we were good vs the run for most of the game (73 yds on 28 carries, 58 of those yds came in the 4th qtr after the bucks got up by 2 scores). 10. but we've proven that, so far this season, we do not have the horses to get qb pressure rushing just 4. harrison did not play today, which is probably why we saw frosh de jack sawyer get some snaps in the 2nd half. midway thru the 2nd qtr, we finally start mixing in some lb blitzes. I think we had 3 sacks in the 2nd half and, though tulsa had their 2 td's in the 2nd half, brin (their qb) had less yds and a lower % of completion. 11. that said, allowing 428 yds passing seldom looks good, unless you only give up 20 pts w/2 picks (and should've been 3; burke sure did look like he stole a ball that was out of the wr's hands). burke certainly is looking more and more like our next star cb. we played a ton of zone today. w/o a dominant pass rusher, that's going to be a bend not break strategy. 12. who the hell is cameron martinez? lol. I saw a #10 running onto the field (2 of what seemed like 30 different players on d for us today) midway thru the 2nd qtr. I glance at my 3 deep program and he's not even on it. he had a scrappy energy about him, so when he got the pick and took it to the house that was fun to see. 13. it's a win. 14. still a lot of work to do. 15. it's a win.
