Have already told them for the most part. NCAA is a toothless dinosaur. I read somewhere that whoever it is who heads up the NCAA is pleading with Congress to do something. I have no idea what he thinks the government could do to stop any of this, but it speaks to the complete loss of control over the whole thing by the NCAA and frankly, any respect that might still remain with both colleges and the public. This reminds me of a scene from Goodfellas where the guy who owns the bar the "goodfellas" hang out in begs mob leader Paul Cicero to take over the bar because he was having issues w some of the mobsters not paying their tabs. That didn't turn out well for him.
Were we better off w "SEC/ACC" "bagmen", "BIG 12" "oil wells", "PAC 12" "Real Estate" gifts or "B1G" "Tattoos"?

Bryan, I'm not the one who brought med students, vet students (and band members) into the discussion...you did that.
And FWIW, a med or vet student (or tuba player) does not need a license to shoot a commercial. Or do outside work in their field for pay, while on scholarship.
For the life of me, I've never been able to figure how one can give an athlete hundreds of thousands of dollars in the form of scholarship, room and board, medical care, free flights, etc. and then claim with a straight face that they are amateurs. But, give them $200 a month in spending money? Heaven forbid! Can't have that. It's nonsensical.
I'm fine with NIL, just not in the way it's done now which is basically anarchy. And for that, you can thank the idiots at the NCAA. They lost court case after court case, yet failed to do anything other than double down with more court cases. The NCAA could have implemented a system 40 or more years ago, but refused to do so.
As for coaches...they have been quitting on their programs and athletes for years, so color me a little jaded with the program building argument. I remember Jimbo talking about couple of years back saying they have always paid the player it's just legal now. No doubt.

I remember Jimbo talking about couple of years back saying they have always paid the player it's just legal now. Strangely, back when I was in school, just as wheels were getting popular, the NCAA had rules, but AFAIK, never enforced them. Players had 'jobs' in the off-season, most of which they never bothered to even show up at, and gifts were....well....gifts. It wasn't even a secret. Players drove around school in those V8 'gifts'. UCLA built a dynasty in basketball, and good ol' Sam Gilbert wasn't bashful about telling people about his roll in building it. And I'm certain there were 'Sam Gilberts' all over America. I remember the stories of Howard Schnellenberger telling folks he was going recruiting so he had to go put a case of cash in the trunk of his caddy.

The smart ones used both hands Told this to a Gator fan who used to post here a few years back. He was absolutely convinced Miami had been paying players but swore that UF never would. I told him I knew for sure we used to pay them in the old days, everyone did. But in that period we were in that phase where if you got caught again you got the death penalty, so that along with kind of sucking for a few years made me think we weren't doing it during that period. But I told him I knew for certain UF did because I knew kids who got paid.

Med and Vet students aren't governed by the NCAA, and they can't turn pro before they are licensed, either. So why should an athlete be allowed to turn "pro" while he is playing a collegiate sport?
If you like the idea, fine, but it is going to ruin CFB in the long run.
When a coach doesn't know for sure who will be playing for him and who will suddenly quit on him, how can he build a solid, repeatable program?
For the overall good of CFB, NIL is not a good move.

If they quit their jobs, that is part of WORKING FOR A LIVING. Athletes are not working for a living. They are working for a free scholarship. Are you going to tell me that a QB leaves XYU for ABU, so he can get a better EDUCATION? LMAO!!!

If your chosen profession is playing football, then yeah...that's exactly what a player might decide to do. If you want to be a doctor, you transfer to the best medical school you can. If you want to be a football player, you transfer to the best football school you can.

They should be going to college to get an education they can USE.
I can't believe you would come up with such a weak, stupid argument.

I can't believe you would come up with such a weak, stupid argument.I think you're living in the past as it regards college football. CFB teams have become the farm teams of the NFL. I'd bet that most of the 4 and 5 star players aren't going to college to get a degree in English Lit. or Mechanical Engineering, at least not as their main goal. They're learning football with the hope of playing professionally. It's why a kid who never played a down in the NFL can become a ProBowler his first season; because his major in college was football. When we were kids watching Bart Starr and Roger Staubach, that wasn't how it was. It was virtually unheard of that a rookie QB would ever start a game in the NFL in his first season. Now it happens all the time. That's the reality.

No problem with a coach leaving his job. Big problem when they break their contract and leave their former school and players high and dry. Short and sweet….do you believe people should honor the contracts they sign? Athletes usually transfer for reasons of playing time. And sometimes it’s because a new coach comes in and gets rid of existing players on the roster. Sometimes it’s for NIL. And sometimes, usually for grad school reasons, it’s for educational purposes.

Contracts should be honored by BOTH parties. Since I am not privy to coaches' contracts; they are all different, and they are not regulated by the NCAA, that has nothing to do with this.
What if the coach is killed in a car wreck? You suck it up and move on with the next guy, buttercup.
Play "what if" all you want to. NIL and willy-nilly transfers should be outlawed.
If you happen to be stuck on a bad team, you can still arrange for a tryout at a pro combine. Like a JOB INTERVIEW, you know?
