We should cut taxes for everyone across the board and not discriminate against anyone. Fine with me. What do you want to cut so we do not drive up the debt? The Kennedy, Reagan, Clinton, Bush, and Trump tax cuts all actually increased revenues to the federal government so my choice is to limit future increases in spending to below thd increase in revenues each year and use the difference to phase out deficits and then reduce the overall debt.

Then let's not have any taxes at all. Think of the massive revenue that will flow into the Treasury!

The Laffer curve is real and we need a tax rate that maximizes Renee’s that are spent on a more limited government while eliminating annual deficits and paying down the debt to a manageable level so interest on it at least so that it’s not a top three expenditure every year in the budget. Taxes and spending are both too high right now. We need to go back to the 2019 pre Covid federal budget baseline and add only for population growth and inflation since then and go from there.

Again...what do you want to cut to achieve this limited government? In another thread you just told the State of CA to F-off and that the feds would help you instead. That doesn't sound very 'limited' to me. ..and BTW...the pre-Covid federal deficit was more than a half trillion dollars.

What else? Here is an idea. 1. Abolish the Department of Education and end all federal support for local schools.

Cuttting back on the current rate of spending increases to a more responsible level reflecting the rates of inflation and legal population increase in the last year would be a good start particularly since we are on a CR now and the new congress and president get to do the rest of the FY to 9-30-25. Then set the baseline for the next FY only population and inflation increases from the current one.

I simply suggested slowing the rate of increases on the criteria I said rather than future proposed benchmarks. That initial first step will show us what we can do next. One step at a time.

You would oppose such cuts?

One step at a time. Then you oppose the things Trump, Musk and Johnson are talking about? Musk said $2 trillion in cuts. You would oppose such cuts? It depends on what is being cut. There was a lot from Obama post Great Recession spending built into the baseline and same with post covid emergency spending built into the baseline. There is likely a lot of fat and wasted spending built in that could be eliminated without harming defense, social security, Medicare, and the most important government functions. I don’t think they will make all the cuts in a single year but phase them in in a way that improves economic growth the most. There was never a need to bake Covid emergency spending into the permanent bsseline thus going back to the 2019 baseline and adjusting for legal population growth and inflation since then and eliminate spending on illegals benefits would get us a long way toward the goal.
