Edit: Louisville joins next year. But I forgot to mention Notre Dame...who isn't a basketball pushover.

It is hard to believe how well (so far) A&M and Missouri are doing in the SEC. As you say, both were middle of the pack in the Big 12.

Well Harry, you know I'm by far not the biggest SEC homer around here, but in all fairness neither Mizzou or A&M have actually won anything in the SEC yet. Not even a division championship, much less anything else. In fact A&M's biggest margin of victory over a ranked team since joining the SEC has come against Oklahoma. And if I'm not mistaken Mizzou won its division in the Big 12 a few years ago, didn't they? I think they were even briefly ranked #1 in the nation after beating up on Big 12 foes as well that year.

No, they haven't won anything as of yet and neither did much of that in the Big 12, either. A&M won one title and Missouri none. Hell, Missouri hasn't won a conference title in 45 years. But, you and I both know that most people (me included) predicted that both would flounder big time in the SEC. But, for the most part they haven't done that....and if you will notice what I said was "how well both had done so far". IMO, full judgments on both teams really can't be made until they have at least 5 years in the league. I think Missouri will ultimately end up being Missouri....spring an upset here and there and have some good teams but at the end of the day just never get over the hump. And I really wonder about A&M...they caught lightning in a bottle with Manziel. Remains to be seen if they keep progressing or revert back to being the Aggies of old that can't get out of their own way. Hard to say but will be interesting to watch.

I am not sure we should wait 5 years to judge. No, neither team have won anything but the success both schools have had with essentially one "SEC recruiting class" under their belts is pretty amazing. They built their squads to compete in the Big XII and have essentially won in the SEC with those teams. Maybe the shift away from defense in the SEC is a contributing factor but it is definitely an interesting phenomena nonetheless.

BTW, if Sumlim is smart, he will be use his success at A&M to land a bigger gig somewhere else because once the artist formerly known as Johnny Football leaves, he is in trouble.

Mizzou is 8-7 in SEC play since joining the conference. Got it. And they were 5-4 their last year in the Big 12. The boys started believing their own propaganda, and were expecting Arkansas and South Carolina, Part II...

Daryl,
FWIW, Mizzou WAS the best team in the lowly Big XII North for several years in the Gary Pinkel era. But Oklahoma always had their number-- beating them twice in 2007-08 (Mizzou's only losses that year.) They finished the 2007-08 season ranked #4 in the BCS, I believe, after shellacking Arkansas 31-6 in the Cotton Bowl. (These numbers could be slightly off in my memory.)
Texas A&M was never a big deal in the Big XII. Even Colorado was 6-3 all-time against the Aggies.
IMO, the PAC 12 is the best conference in NCAA Division I football in 2013-- especially if we compare the top seven or eight teams in each major conference. So, by "best conference" do you guys mean the conference with the single best team, or what?
For example, how would the #1-8 teams in the Big Ten, SEC, ACC, and Big XII fare against the PAC 12 top eight? (Auburn beat Wazzu 31-24.)
Stanford Arizona State USC Oregon Arizona Washington Washington State Utah

Stanford Arizona State USC Oregon Arizona Washington Washington State Utah Like I said.... I'm not the biggest SEC homer around here. As you can tell most SEC fans hate BAMA except when they need to ride our coattails. A roar went up throughout the SEC when Fat Phil went all secret witness on our ass just to save his own. That said, I'd take BAMA over Stanford, USCe over Arizona State, and Lsu over USCw this year. After that who knows? Oregon seems to have been exposed but they'd likely still beat Mizzou or A&M but might not beat the barners. Arizona vs UGA? With Murray now out that would be close imo. Washington vs Vandy? I'd give the nod to Sark. I'm not a James Franklin fan. Ole Miss over WSU and Utah over Miss State. To be honest I put zero effort into research for this post because I don't really care if anybody thinks the PAC is stronger than the SEC this year. We'll know more after the bowls but unfortunately there won't likely be and head to heads between the two.
