What started off as a bad day with aTm snapping the Gators 13 game win streak ended really well with Tennessee sweeping their Auburn doubleheader 10-2 and 12-1. Auburn still has to play at Tennessee on Monday on the SEC Network. UF has 3 SEC games and AU has 4 SEC games remaining. The Gators effectively have a 2 game SEC lead due to winning the weekend series at Auburn. It would be a monumental upset if UF doesn't win the SEC championship in Gainesville next weekend with only Arkansas, the worst team in the SEC, standing in the way of the Gators SEC coronation.

Auburn's final game at Tennessee on Monday night was cancelled due to bad weather. UF can go 2-1 against Arkansas, the worst team in the league, in Gainesville and still win the SEC championship by 1/2 game even if Auburn sweeps Texas A&M in Auburn.

TALLAHASSEE -- Things just keep getting better for Florida’s softball team and coach Tim Walton.
The two-time defending national champion Gators are ranked No. 1 in both polls, are No. 1 in the NCAA RPI, own the nation’s highest win percentage and are a win away from clinching the SEC regular-season title.
And on Wednesday, Florida proved it’s also the best team in the state with two wins over No. 5 Florida State, taking the regularly scheduled game 7-1 and winning the continuation game 1-0 on pitcher Aleshia Ocasio’s walk-off home run.
The first-game result made it 600 wins at Florida for Walton. He began work on the next 100 with the second game’s outcome.
Florida (49-4 overall) is now 21-4 against Top-25 teams this season. The Gators are 32-0 in non-conference games and have won 123 of 125 non-league games dating to the start of 2013.
UF went up 3-0 in the third inning of the first game. Kelsey Stewart started it when she singled, stole second, moved to third on an error and scored on Kayli Kvistad’s single. Nicole DeWitt singled and scored behind Kvistad on Janell Wheaton’s double.
Taylore Fuller’s home run put Florida up 4-0 in the fourth.
RBI doubles by DeWitt and Aubree Munro in the seventh put UF up 7-0. FSU (42-7) scored its run in the bottom of the inning.
The halted game from April 13 was restarted as it was left in Gainesville, tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out and UF runners on second and third. But Florida couldn’t cash it.
The score remained the same until Ocasio decided it with her home run in the 12th.
Florida returns home for a weekend series against Arkansas that starts Friday.

Gators closing in on second consecutive SEC championship:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked University of Florida softball team (50-4/18-4 SEC) defeated Arkansas (17-37/1-21 SEC), 9-0 (five innings), in the opener of the teams' three-game Southeastern Conference series on Friday at KSP Stadium. Three different seniors hit home runs for the Gators and Aleshia Ocasio (19-1) threw a complete-game shutout and recorded five strikeouts while yielding three hits and no walks. UF's magic number to clinch its sixth SEC Championship is just one. The Gators can win the title with a win or an Auburn loss to Texas A&M on Friday night, or with a win on Saturday. Florida, picked in the preseason to win the SEC, is looking to win its second-straight SEC regular season crown for the first time since the Gators went back-to-back in 2008 and 2009. Florida has the opportunity to clinch the SEC regular-season title at home for the first time since 1998. UF wasted no time grabbing the lead on Friday night, as the Gators scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. Kelsey Stewart led off the game with a single, extending her hitting streak to nine games, and Amanda Lorenz followed with a walk. With runners on first and second and no one out, sophomore Kayli Kvistad mashed her sixth double of the season off the centerfield wall to score Stewart. Kirsti Merritt followed with an infield single to score Lorenz. Florida scored their final run of the inning on a double steal. UF stretched its lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second when Stewart hit a solo home run to right. Arkansas had its best chance to score in the top of the fourth when Heirs and Diaz recorded a pair of singles to place runners on first and third. Unfazed, Ocasio induced a groundout to get out of the jam and keep the Razorbacks scoreless. Senior Kirsti Merritt began a five-run fifth inning when she launched her seventh home run of the season to straight-away center. After Janell Wheaton recorded a pinch-hit RBI single to bring the score to 6-0, senior Taylore Fuller hit a walk-off three run home run to end the ball game.

Florida Gators - 2016 SEC Champion
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Following Auburn's loss to Texas A&M on Friday night, the No. 1-ranked University of Florida softball team secured its sixth Southeastern Conference regular-season championship on Friday night. Florida (50-4/18-4 SEC), picked in the preseason to win the SEC, has won its second-straight SEC regular season crown for the first time since the Gators went back-to-back in 2008 and 2009. In addition, the Gators receive a bye and will open play in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament on May 12. UF (18-4, .818) edged out Auburn (15-6, .714) for its sixth league title in school history (1998, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2015, 2016), and fifth under Florida head coach Tim Walton. The Orange and Blue wrap up regular-season play this weekend with its series against Arkansas. Florida is 18-4 in the SEC with sweeps against Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. UF is 50-4 overall on the campaign as it heads to the postseason next week in Starkville, in the midst of its eighth 50-win campaign in school. The Gators are 21-4 (.840) against top-25 opponents, tops in the SEC, own eight come-from-behind wins – four in SEC play – and are 3-0 in extra-inning games in 2016. Florida owns 25 shutouts and 18 mercy-rule victories. In addition, UF is 22-4 versus current 1-25 RPI opponents and 9-0 against opponents ranked 26-50 in the RPI rankings.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked University of Florida (51-4/19-4 SEC) softball team saluted its senior class with a 5-0 win over Arkansas (17-38/1-22 SEC) on Saturday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The Gators scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and junior Delanie Gourley (18-3) recorded a career-high 16 strikeouts and earned her 18th win in the circle. Following the pregame Senior Day ceremonies, Gourley recorded eight strikeouts in her first three innings of work before the Gators exploded for four tallies in the bottom of the third. Senior Kelsey Stewart and freshman Amanda Lorenz got things going with a pair of one-out singles. Sophomore Kayli Kvistad followed with a two-run single up the middle and senior Kirsti Merritt capped things off with her second home run in as many days, as she blasted a two-run bomb to left-center field. Arkansas had its best chance to score in the top of the fifth inning when Loren Krzysko recorded a one-out double. Unfazed, Gourley worked out of the jam with a popup and a groundout. No other Razorback was able to get into scoring position. UF scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when junior Justine McLean drove in sophomore Nicole DeWitt with a single up the middle. Gourley, who recorded her fifth-double-digit strikeout game of the season, registered perhaps her best start of the season on Saturday. Florida's junior left-hander tossed a complete-game shutout while allowing just two hits and no walks in addition to her career-high 16 strikeouts.

The Gators not surprisingly swept Arkansas with an 8-0 run rule win on Sunday afternoon. Kelly Barnhill pitched a no hitter. UF begins SEC tourney play on Thursday afternoon as the #1 seed playing the Wednesday winner of the Georgia vs. Ole Miss game:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked University of Florida softball team (52-4/20-4 SEC) swept its series against Arkansas (17-39/1-23 SEC) with a five-inning, 8-0, victory on Sunday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The Gators exploded for four runs in the top of the first inning and freshman Kelly Barnhill (15-0) recorded Florida's fourth no hitter of the season and the first of her career on Sunday as she struck out 10 batters and walked just one Razorback. The Marietta, Ga. native walked the first hitter of the game before she retired the next 15 Razorback hitters to record Florida's fourth this season and the first of her career. Four no hitter's is the most UF has thrown in a single season in program history. In addition, Barnhill joins Lindsay Littlejohn (Feb. 19, 2006, Longwood) and Delanie Gourley (May 16, 2014, Florida A&M) as the only freshmen in program history to throw a no hitter. UF's rookie right-hander and Gator Great Stacey Nelson are the only two Gators to throw no hitters against the Razorbacks. Nelson no hit UA on April 26, 2009. UF scored its four runs in the first on two hits and one Arkansas error. Senior Kelsey Stewart and rookie Amanda Lorenz ignited the Florida offense during the stanza with a leadoff walk and single. After Stewart came around to score on an Arkansas miscue, Kirsti Merritt recorded an RBI single up the middle to score Lorenz. The Gators tallied their other two runs on a wild pitch and a Taylore Fuller sacrifice fly. After Florida extended its lead to 5-0 on an RBI single in the second, the Gators completed their run-rule victory with three tallies in the bottom of the fifth inning. During the fifth frame, Lorenz notched a two-run single before sophomore Aleshia Ocasio hit a walk-off RBI single up the middle. With the Gators three-game sweep of Arkansas this weekend, Florida extended its win streak over Arkansas to 23 games. In addition, UF shutout UA in all three games running its total to 27 shutouts this season. In addition, Sunday's win marked the seventh time Florida has recorded 20 wins in SEC play. Meanwhile, UF's four losses in league play is tied with the Gators 2010 squad for the third fewest losses in conference play in school history.

Tim Walton should have been the SEC COY - back to back SEC & NCAA championships, won the SEC by 3 games while having every SEC team gunning for them, 52-4 while earning the #1 RPI while having every non-conference team on UF's schedule gunning for them, swept ACC champion FSU 2-0, and 21-4 against top 25 teams with an 8-0 win over second ranked Michigan on a neutral field. I just don't see why the SEC coaches didn't recognize the best coach in the SEC with a deserving award:
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After Florida won its sixth Southeastern Conference Championship this past weekend, SEC Freshman of the Year Amanda Lorenz headlines a group of seven Gator Softball players to receive All-SEC accolades. The awards were voted on by the conference's 13 head coaches and announced Tuesday by the league office. UF opens play at the 2016 SEC Tournament on Thursday afternoon as the No. 1 seed against the winner of Wednesday's contest between No. 8 seed Georgia (40-16) and No. 9 seed Ole Miss (38-19). Lorenz becomes the second Gator to be named SEC Freshman of the Year, and the first since Mandy Schuerman in 2002. In addition, the Moorpark, Calif. native is the first rookie in school history to be voted as a First Team All-SEC performer. Junior Delanie Gourley (LHP) and sophomores Aleshia Ocasio (RHP) and Kayli Kvistad (DP/U) join Lorenz as First Team All-SEC selections, while outfielder Kirsti Merritt and catcher Aubree Munro earned spots on the Second Team All-SEC. In addition, rookie right-hander Kelly Barnhill was named to the All-Freshman team. Although Florida has the top fielding percentage in the SEC and the second-best mark in the country, Munro was UF's lone student-athlete named to the SEC All-Defensive team. Merritt (2015 First Team All-SEC; 2013 All-Freshman) and Ocasio (2015 All-Freshman) are the only two Gators who have previously garnered SEC accolades in their careers. UF's four student-athletes named First Team All-SEC was the top mark in the conference, and Florida has seven All-SEC recipients for the first time since 2012. Overall, Florida has now accumulated 47 All-SEC selections by 24 players in Walton's tenure and 71 all-conference honors in program history. The Gators have received 19 SEC All-Defensive accolades by 12 players since the league introduced the award in 2008. The Orange and Blue have had 29 Freshman All-SEC selections in the Walton era and 32 dating back to the accolade's inception in 2004. UF beat Ole Miss 1-0 in a snoozefest that had a 3+ hour rain delay. The Gators will play the winner of Alabama vs. Auburn at 5:30 EDT. All games in the SEC tournament are being televised by the SEC Network:
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 1-ranked University of Florida (53-4) softball team shutout Ole Miss (39-20), 1-0, on Thursday evening at Nusz Park in a quarterfinal matchup at the SEC Tournament. The Gators scored the Thursday's only run on a passed ball in the fifth inning. In the circle, freshman Kelly Barnhill combined with sophomore Aleshia Ocasio (20-1) to throw seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts. Following Thursday's shutout victory over the Rebels, Florida has not allowed a run in 24-straight innings and is just six frame's shy of its season-long mark of 30-consecutive scoreless innings. In addition, the Gators are now error-free in 26-straight innings following Thursday's contest. After a pair of scoreless frames, Thursday's SEC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup entered a three hour and 15 minute weather delay in the top of the third inning. After play resumed, the game remained a scoreless affair until the fifth inning. In the top of that stanza, Ole Miss threatened to score after Kylan Becker led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With Becker on second base, UF Head Coach Tim Walton changed pitchers and brought Ocasio into the circle. After a walk and a wild pitch placed runners on first and third, Ocasio induced a 6-3 double play to get out of the inning without any damage. Florida used that momentum in the bottom of the fifth as senior Kelsey Stewart ignited Florida's offense to grab its 1-0 lead. After the Wichita, Kan. native recorded a leadoff double and advanced to third on an Ole Miss miscue, the senior speedster scored on a passed ball with one out in the inning. That would be the only insurance Ocasio would need, as she retired the Rebels final six hitters to secure the victory.

Another snoozefest as UF lost 2-1 to Auburn. I don't know why UF bothered to go to the SEC tourney:
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The University of Florida softball team fell to Auburn, 2-1, on Friday in the Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinals at Nusz Park. Both teams began the day averaging more than six runs per game for the season, but the contest turned into a pitchers' duel as the Gators and Tigers combined for three runs and 11 hits. UF (53-5) surrendered a pair of runs to Auburn (48-9) in the top of the first inning when AU's Carlee Wallace recorded two-out, two-run home run. Rookie Kelly Barnhill (15-1) started and threw just two innings and allowed just those two runs on five hits, while recording one strikeout. Junior Delanie Gourley relieved Barnhill in the third and allowed just one hit in five shutout innings. Florida missed an opportunity to score in the sixth when the Kelsey Stewart recorded an infield single and freshman Amanda Lorenz followed with a double into center to give Florida runners on second and third with no one out. After Kayli Kvistad grounded out to first, Kirsti Merritt hit into an inning ending double play. The Gators scored their lone run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh inning when Nicole DeWitt scored from second base on an Aleshia Ocasio single and an Auburn miscue. Auburn's Kaylee Carlson improved to 15-1 the circle as she allowed just five hits and recorded two strikeouts.
