UF travels to Mizzou to play for the SEC championship in the final SEC weekend series: floridagators.com/news/2018/5/2/softball-no-4-florida-travels-to-missouri-to-conclude-regular-season.aspxThe Gators own a 2 game lead over the poodles who are traveling to Ole Miss. UF will travel back to Mizzou next week to participate in the SEC tournament. If UF wins the SEC championship this weekend, the Gators will be set up as a hosting national seed through the NCAA tournament. I'm not thinking UF will be motivated to play a meaningless tournament a week from now other than to try to continue to get better and to give some bench players more of an opportunity to play.

UF won 4-2 at Mizzou on Friday night: floridagators.com/news/2018/5/4/softball-gators-claim-fourth-straight-sec-regular-season-championship.aspxCoupled with Georgia and South Carolina loses, UF has won the 2018 SEC Softball Championship. This is a 4peat SEC Championship with the Gators having won the SEC Championships in 2015-16-17-18. UF and LSU are the only programs to have won 4 SEC championships in a row. Game 2 is Saturday at 3PM EDT. The game will be televised on the SEC Network. I'd start Natalie Lugo and Katie Chronister in the last two games. My thought is Aleshia Ocasio will pitch the Saturday game to keep her on rotation while game 3 will likely be divided by Lugo and Chronister. Look for Tim Walton to get as many players into the lineup as possible to increase their experience at an SEC level.

UF swept Missouri winning 7-4 and knocked the Tigers out of the SEC tournament.
The Gators will next play Thursday night in the SEC tourney quarterfinal against the Wednesday night winner between Alabama and Auburn. UF is assured of a top 8 national seed currently sitting at #4 in the RPI, ranked #4 in the polls, and having won the SEC championship by 4 games. I imagine HC Tim Walton will experiment some with the lineup and will try to get Natalie Lugo some more experience like he did in the game 3 win at Missouri. UF needs to know they can go 3 deep pitching if they need to do so in the NCAA tourney.
UF's record advanced to 47-8 (20-4). The Gators won the SEC championship by 4 games over the UGALY poodles.

SEC Awards: floridagators.com/news/2018/5/8/softball-barnhill-lorenz-headline-all-sec-awards.aspxSEC Pitcher of the Year - Kelly Barnhill SEC Player of the Year - Amanda Lorenz Joining Barnhill and Lorenz on the SEC 1st team are Nicole DeWitt at 3rd base and Aleshia Ocasio as utility player for her right field play and pitching. Hannah Adams made the all-freshman team at 2nd base. Jordan Matthews made the all-freshman team at DP. Janell Wheaton made the all-defensive team at catcher. Hannah Adams also made the all-defensive team at 2nd base. Kayli Kvistad should have been on the 2nd team at 1st base. Sophia Reynoso is the best defensive SS in the SEC. She should have been on the all-defensive team.

Florida 5 Alabama 2 UF advanced to the SEC tourney semifinal with a win over bama. With the win, the Gators improved to 3-1 this season vs. the Tide having won the series in Tuscaloosa 2-1: floridagators.com/news/2018/5/10/softball-lorenz-ocasio-propel-gators-past-crimson-tide.aspxComing into the game, I thought UF was going to pack it in to concentrate on getting ready for the Gainesville regional. That didn't happen. UF was giving their best against bama. Aleshia Ocasio a towering 2 run homer in the bottom of the 4th to right field to tie the game at 2-2. The Tide had scored 2 in the 1st inning against Kelly Barnhill. In the bottom of the 6th, Amanda Lorenz, the SEC Player of the Year, hit a monster 3 run homer to center field to give the Gators the runs they needed to close out the game at 5-2. Kelly Barnhill pitched 5 innings before being relieved by Aleshia Ocasio for the last 2 innings. Ocasio picked up the win in relief. It'll be interesting to see how Tim Walton uses the pitching staff tomorrow. Does he come back with Kelly Barnhill, Aleshia Ocasio, or does he go with Natalie Lugo to get her some experience. Based on what I saw today with UF putting on a good show to win, I'm guessing Tim Walton will go with Barnhill or Ocasio or both like he did against bama. UF's record advanced to 48-8. The Gators play Tennessee in the second game on Friday afternoon for a chance to advance to the Saturday final to play the winner of Arkansas vs. South Carolina. The Vols always play UF tough. I don't like the H&W UT HC coaching tandem, the Weekleys. They try to get the game out of sorts by slowing the game down with too many interruptions. The answer for that is just to bury them early. Of course, in softball, that is easier said than done. The Vols are a very good team so the game should be entertaining and competitive. UF did not play the vols in the 18 regular season, but the two teams know each other well from having played in previous seasons.

UF beat Tennessee 10-2 in the semifinal 10-2 and beat South Carolina 3-1 in the final. With the wins, UF completed the season sweep of the SEC regular season and the SEC tourney. UF's record advanced to 50-8: floridagators.com/news/2018/5/12/softball-gators-crowned-southeastern-conference-tournament-champions.aspxUF will find out tonight at 10 PM EDT on one of the ESPN channels what their seed is in the NCAA tourney. The important thing is the Gators will be hosting both the regional and the super regional. I would expect UF to have a 4 seed and UCLA, Oregon, and Oklahoma with higher RPIs although I don't see how the Sooners can be higher than the Gators with the Mickey Mouse schedule they played, disrespect for the schedule and not the team. Given that UF swept the regular season and tourney titles of softball's strongest conference by far, I'd have the Gators #1. Admittedly, I'm just a biased Gators fan.

I hope UF gets another shot at Oklahoma. OU HC Patty Gasso came across about as arrogant as one can be when interviewed on ESPN tonight. Asked if she planned to do anything with her team for the NCAA tournament, she responded that she didn't need to do anything as her players are experienced and ready play. Humility? Not at Oklahoma. It time for the Sooners to get taken down. JMHO, Oklahoma's Mickey Mouse schedule didn't prepare them well for the battles they will have to win at the WCWS to 3peat. As I stated at the start of the season, Oklahoma scheduled a pass to the NCAA tournament. Surprise, surprise, UF received the #2 overall seed. Oregon was #1, UF #2, UCLA #3, and Oklahoma #4. As stated in the above post, I'd have had UF as the #1 seed. floridagators.com/news/2018/5/13/softball-gators-earn-national-no-xx-seed-in-ncaa-championship-tournament.aspxThe Gainesville regional has UF playing Bethune-Cookman and Ohio State playing South Florida. The full NCAA bracket: floridagators.com/documents/2018/5/13//2018_DI_Softball_Bracket_64__Regionals.pdf?id=22325For the second consecutive year, the SEC made history by putting all 13 SEC softball teams into the NCAA tournament. The depth and quality of the SEC is remarkable. Given that UF swept the SEC regular season and tournament championships of the strongest conference in college softball, the Gators should have been the #1 overall seed.

UF swept the Gainesville regional 3-0:
UF 8 Bethune-Cookman 0 UF 10 Ohio State 2 UF 4 Ohio State 0
Aleshia Ocasio pitched a 7 inning complete game no hitter against Ohio State in game 3.
Shelby McCombs, the Ohio State starting pitcher all weekend, pitched in trouble in both games against UF. Her pitcher style is awkward at best and excruciating to watch. Her best pitch is an off speed drop ball that kept the hitters off balance, but she kept the whole game out of sorts with her almost refusal to throw strikes except when she absolutely had to and the 22 walks to go with hitting 4 batters she had against UF in both games. As a staff, the bucknuts walked 26 batters in both games. McCombs is the inverse in best pitch to Alexis Osorio of Alabama. Osorio's best pitch is a rising fast ball, but, like McCombs, she walks a ton of batters which throws off the batters and the game. The games are long and ugly to watch. McCombs pitched her best when the bases were loaded which was often. Just a timely hit or two in game 3 would have ended both games against the bucknuts on the mercy rule. Mercy me, I was tired out after watching all of that junk from Ohio State.

The best super regional of the weekend:
UF 5 aTm 4 aTm 5 UF 4 UF 5 aTm 3
After stomping on the Aggies pride in a 3 game sweep in Gainesville during the season, all 3 games were struggles as the aTm brought their A game after having dominated their College Station regional. In game 3, aTm hit a 2 run homer to take a 3-2 after the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th, UF's true freshman Jordan Matthews hit a walkoff 3 run homer after two outs and with two strikes. It was the best walkoff in Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium history.
UF is on to the WCWS where the Gators will square off in a revenge match with the UGALY poodles. The game is Thursday at 7 PM EDT.

Tim Walton knows he made a mistake letting Aleshia Ocasio pitch to aTm's Tori Vidales in the top of the 7th inning of the deciding game: floridagators.com/news/2018/5/27/chris-harry-softball-stuff-walton-knows-he-messed-up-no-need-to-remind-him.aspxHe had planned to bring in Kelly Barnhill for Ocasio if the situation came up again. Ocasio allowed aTm's game winning homerun to Tori Vidales late in game 2. Walton said he just didn't act on the plan and it was his fault and unacceptable that he didn't. He also said Ocasio pitched her butt off in the top of the 6th getting UF out of a bases loaded no outs mess left by Barnhill allowing only 1 run. Barnhill is the better pitcher even when she is having an off day plus she has been successful vs. Vidales so the switch to get the final out should have been made.

5.31.2018
Florida 11 Georgia 3
Just like every other sport the poodles play, they proved they are nothing more than a bunch of assholes. In the 1st, Sophia Reynoso put a hard tag on a poodle who was trying to steal 2nd. She was given the base because Reynoso was drawn into the base path causing an obstruction with the throw from Wheaton. The poodle came up jawing and tried to get into Reynoso's space. Reynosa just laughed at her and said "really." The UGALY HC who got the SEC coach of the year that should have gone to Tim Walton breeds that type of in your face style. I just smiled and enjoyed the embarrassment the Gators laid on the poodles on national tv in the WCWS.

UCLA 6 UF 5
The home plate ref single handedly beat UF in a game the Gators should have won 5-2. He should be banned from college softball.
Oklahoma 2 UF 0
There was no heart left in most of the Gators after the screwing from the Friday night UCLA game. Nicole DeWitt particularly played an uninspired game, but there were several others as well. Kayli Kvistad is the only player that showed any fight in the game. I was surprised the Sooners didn't put a beat down on the Gators with the uninspired way UF played the game. Still, it's always a good season when you advance to the WCWS.
For the 2019 season, my wish list has instant replay at the top of the list.

If you want to claim that defeated the Gators right then and there for the duration of the tournament, so be it. As for OU, I said before the tournament I didn't believe this would be their year. I thought it would be Oregon, but right now looks like Washington is the team to beat. I don't see OU beating them. But, you never know.
