the view from 108...
well, sometimes you just have to tip your hat. um started out on fire in both halves. kudos to osu for scratching and clawing their way back into it. shannon scott played the game of his career, laquinton ross remains one of the toughest players to guard in the league, and we actually shot over 50% from the field in the game.... until the last 3:00. aaron despite his foul trouble actually had a good shooting day (4-7) but his two misses about :20 after getting back in the game from a 9:00 sit hurt. his 3 attempt was in and out... tough break there. matta rolled the dice that we could get a stop at the end, and we did, but couldn't get the rebound. um only had 3 offensive boards the entire game, but that last one was a killer. we gave up 12 3's, um shot 53% from the field, and osu still had a shot at the end.
didn't think um could shoot that well 2 days in a row, plus knock off sparty 3 times in a season (won a little $$ on that one as well as uk covering vs uf today), so msu winning comfortably is not a surprise.
as for osu's draw, it's a tough one. 6 seed, playing 11 dayton in buffalo thursday. big emotional edge to the flyers, who think osu has been ducking them for decades. last time the two played i think was in the nit a few years back at the schott. we should beat ud, but you likely then have syracuse in a virtual home game, a team a lot like osu; tough on d w/that 2-3 zone, but struggling shooting of late. that will be tough. win that and you get kansas likely in memphis, then probably the tourney top seed gators. a final 4 trip to dallas would be nothing short of a miracle. getting out of buffalo would be an accomplishment, but doable.

I realize a 6 seed is what a lot thought but looking at the 5 seeds i was very unimpressed

Defense can only carry you so far.

If we make it to the second weekend, it should be deemed a success. Defense can only carry you so far. the one glimmer of hope is that we shot pretty well vs um. 27-51 from the field until missing the last 5 shots down the stretch. the question is, can they put back to back to back games of good shooting together? haven't done that since late dec/early jan and the start of the league season. agreed that getting thru buffalo to memphis would be quite an accomplishment. mark scott tosu 81

view from bw3's... first half.
we went cold late in the half after going up 22-21 (i think). ross and smith are both shooting awful. their big guy is killing us. williams has been outscored 9-0. q needs to find his touch. would help if smith/scott can too. ud shooting 50% from field. way too many open looks. their 3's aren't hurting us so much... only made 3. expect to see matta start more full court pressure on d in next 20 minutes.

Mark, did you notice that all of Dayton's players were at least a couple of steps inside of the 3 point line? Dayton dared tOSU to beat them from the outside and the bucknuts couldn't do it. tOSU's streak of 4 Sweet Sixteens in row came to an end.
My bracket isn't ruined, but to come out 0-1 isn't confidence building in ones ability.

My bracket isn't ruined, but to come out 0-1 isn't confidence building in ones ability. everyone's been employing that d vs us since february. this is the first year that matta hasn't had a couple good consistent outside shooters. this team is gritty, they've played hard, but that lack of a 3 pt threat means a lot of close games. osu actually shot better than ud from deep (3-12 vs 3-13) but we needed at least 1 more. mark scott tosu 81

I heard Amedeo Della Valle announced on twitter he's leaving to play ball in Europe. I'd say it's almost certain Ross is a gone.
Arrivederci Amedeo Della Valle ... I don't see that as being a huge loss.
