Well, the first half is nearly over and OSU is showing their immaturity. Down 29-13 w 2:45 left. They're lett Louisville force them into playing the cards sloppy game, getting killed by their bigs around both buckets, Plus ul is draining 3s. We've got lots of teaching points on the horizon. 35-16 w/ 0:43 left now. Ugh. UL is flat out dominating....wish we had their bigsYeah they are athletic and get off the floor quick. Loved the grind to comeback in the 2nd half. Russell looked smoother around the basket but still had too quick a trigger a few times. Pretty interesting that Scott was on the bench for (I think) the last 10:00 of the game. Kam Williams was in instead, and again he both knocked down a great 3 late and made some mental errors on d. Sammy didn't play well and shot horribly. Loving sparked the comeback with his nice inside outside game. He's just not physical enough to play the 4 on d, especially against bigs like ul's. The last 20:00 showed some promise, vs a top 5 team who's the quickest we'll see til March.

UL is flat out dominating....wish we had their bigs Better effort in the 2nd half....To shoot 29% from the field and still pull to within 4 pts with a minute to go impressed me. Russell needs to drive more to the hoop and quit jacking up 3's but no mistake about, he was the reason OSU worked it self back into the game at one point being down 19.Don't forget Marc loving. He was our only offense when the comeback began.

osu 97, high point 43.
probably a low point of the season for high point. lol. ok, that was unnecessary. the good things i saw last night were thompson and scott both regaining their form, shooting and handling the ball. shannon had 11 pts, 7 assists, 3 steals and just 2 turnovers. big difference from the last couple games. sammy had 10 pts, 5 reb, 2 assists, 2 steals, 0 turnovers. kam williams was on fire; 23 pts in 21 min. 8-10 from the field, 4-5 on 3's. russell was 7-10 on fg for 18 pts, tate played his best game to date w/12 pts, and bates-diop had 9. 2 more cupcakes on the schedule before the next big test, vs unc on 12/20 in chicago. we have 6 players in either their 1st or 2nd yr who have to make major contributions in order for the bucks to challenge for the big 10 title and make a march run. after seeing what life is like on the big stage in louisville last week, will be good to see what kind of progress this team has made in 9 days.

the view from bw3's...
well, the biggest difference between this game and the l'ville game was, today, we were able to get shots off. we just couldn't make them. plus unc sliced our zone w/outside shooting and offensive rebounding like a hot knife thru butter. and yet, w/7:00 to go, we had 4 straight possessions, down 8, to get it to 6 or 5, and we suddenly went ice cold from the floor. again, we showed some scrap with on-ball pressure in the 2nd half turning the heels over and getting within reach of making it a game. but couldn't get over the hump. our bigs were pretty much invisible all game. russell did not play well til the last 10 minutes. neither did williams. loving had the 3 working, but was getting worked over inside. thompson woke up after half and we need his offense, bad. if i could invite matta over for a beer, i'd ask him how long we're going to try to stay in that 2-3 zone. against quality opponents, i don't think it's working. it definitely is hurting us on the boards. unc had 18 offensive rebounds. ugh. them going cold at the line and missing a couple breakaway bunnies showed their own issues, but we couldn't take advantage of those openings.
we open the big 10 season in 10 days vs an iowa team that beat carolina in chapel hill. we'd better get better soon.

...are y'all saying we're turning back into a football school? (Sorry, just wanted to throw out an attempt at humor before someone mentioned suicide) : )

I'm at the OSU Iowa game. On the scoreboard the Alabama logo is getting the same read as the um logo during fts. Lol. 11:57 left in 1sthalf and Iowas only missed one shot. OSU down 22-17.

Constantly getting beaten on loose balls, allowing offensive rebounds. Down 52-43 at the under 12 break. Need to find some mojo. Russell has 4 fouls and only 3-10 from the field. Ugh.

It looked like Iowa was going to run out of gas, but the hawks hung on to win 71-65.

the view from 218...
after working for a week on a baby shower for my daughter, including running around most of last night/this morning while being texted by my wife who was changing her mind, seemingly, by the hour on certain details, prep work got done around 1, allowing me to take my dad down to the schott (requested by my mom to keep him away from the party food before the guests arrived) for osu-illinois. in the 1st half, osu shot 60% from the field... and still trailed. the illini were shredding matta's 2-3 zone w/8 3 pointers. early in the 2nd half it was 44-41 illinois and matta switched to a man defense for the first time all year. the result? the bucks ran off something like 21 straight points, and cruised to a 77-61 win.
russell shot well in the first half but was sloppy (3 or 4 turnovers). but during that huge run, for the most part, it was russell, scott, loving, thompson and lee (surprisingly) on the floor, and they were, in a word, awesome. it seemed to pick up the entire team, the entire crowd, and jump-started the offense as well. on one play, russell knocked the ball loose, went after it, before going out of bounds he flipped it behind his back to loving, who started the break, then passed to russell for a lay-up finish. it was the best play of the best 20 minutes vs a quality opponent osu has accomplished to date this year. lee played well down low. tate also provided his usual energy while in the game. sammy was more aggressive driving the lane and putting up jordan-like floaters. i think we shot 60+% for the game. u of i had 6 turnovers in the first half... double that in the 2nd. their 3 pt shooter, rice, who went wild in the first 20 minutes was held in check in the 2nd. it was an extremely encouraging late afternoon of hoops.
i'd read this am that meyer and the football team would be making an appearance at halftime. but after the game started, meyer appeared in the walkway between the floor and the osu lockerroom, and the crowd started its applause. died down once the game started, but at the first media timeout, meyer walked out and what appeared to be the entire team came from both ends of the floor, to a thunderous ovation. meyer, then doran grant, then curtis grant (co-captains) spoke for just a minute or two, imploring to keep up the support thru next monday. pretty damn cool.

Nice win last night at the barn. Russell was unstoppable in the 1st half w 25 pts. He was, apparently, very stoppable in the 2nd/ot; no fg's and 2 ft's. W Williams not playing much, there was no one else who stepped up to fill the gap shooting from the perimeter. Scott had a great floor game re assists and defense. Loving played well and got the game winner in ot. Williams had a chance to win it in regulation but tried to lay up a shot he could have easily dunked and missed it. Still, any league road victory is a good one. On to IU Saturday.

The Technical on Williams might have actually saved this game. Kind of hard for Russell to score in the second half when everytime he had the ball he also was rasslin with a gopher. The whistle on Loving's last foul was blown before either player left the floor, and no contact had been made.
