Nice win last night at the barn. Russell was unstoppable in the 1st half w 25 pts. He was, apparently, very stoppable in the 2nd/ot; no fg's and 2 ft's. W Williams not playing much, there was no one else who stepped up to fill the gap shooting from the perimeter. Scott had a great floor game re assists and defense. Loving played well and got the game winner in ot. Williams had a chance to win it in regulation but tried to lay up a shot he could have easily dunked and missed it. Still, any league road victory is a good one. On to IU Saturday. The ref-ing disparity last night was starting to bring back memories of 1971 of a game played up there. The Technical on Williams might have actually saved this game. Kind of hard for Russell to score in the second half when everytime he had the ball he also was rasslin with a gopher. The whistle on Loving's last foul was blown before either player left the floor, and no contact had been made. you could see russell in the 2nd half trying to tell the refs that he was being held off the ball, which everyone could see except for 3 guys. on williams' technical, you could see the ref say 'what?' to his first comment walking toward the bench. if he'd stopped there, he would not have gotten t'd up, but he kept talking. you could see how frustrated he was getting... on another play hollins was driving to the hole and swung his right elbow at williams, hitting him flush in the face, as he was going for a layup. williams apparently was called for fouling hollins' arm with his nose. thought the same initially about loving's foul on the 3 pt play that tied it up in regulation, although the replay from the camera under the basket showed there was a little body contact. and i pray to god we'll never see anything like 1971 ever again.

Our TVs must have been showing the same game. But, I bet you weren't sitting next to a red-headed pissed off Irish woman. I keep telling her she wouldn't have to go to confession as often if her verbage of the refs was a bit more flattering.

When I had my business, I would block-book 40 seats for the Women's games for the season. When we make it to the Men's games, It's her treat, and she usually buys tickets at mid court within the first 3-4 rows.

btw that was actually the '71-'72 season. late january '72. in '71 osu won the big 10 and got beat by western ky (i think) in the regional finals. witte, hornyak, mark major, were all sophs (jim cleamons a senior). after the fight in '72 osu slumped the rest of the season, and ironically minnesota won the league title.

View from bw3s...
Well, this teM needs to find some toughness. Because grit helps you overcome 35% shooting from the field, going 3-21 from 3, making just 17-27 ft's. Grit keeps you from being out rebounded 48-39 by a team who's not as athletic as you are. Hell there was one possession in the first half where IU got 4 off rebounds. Unreal. Tate did a nice job picking up some slack for the injured loving, but Williams playing just 11 min and McDonald playing just 3 tells you all you need to know about the confidence matta has in them. And as bad as the bucks played, they still crawled back to 64-65 in the last minute before losing 69-66. This team is going to need to get a little tougher if they expect to be above .500 in the league and make the NCAA.

I caught most of the second half and they just seem to be a team with no confidence. Other than Thompson, no one seems to be willing to drive the ball to the basket. And the lack of confidence was never more evident than when Loving pulled up for a 3 with a chance to tie late and shot an airball. Wasn't aware that he was injured so maybe that played a part but his stroke didn't even seem confident, nevermind the result. And yes, the lack of a big man is going to be a killer. Indiana is in the same boat and we still couldn't take advantage of it. Someday Matta is going to find a good 5 to compliment the scorers on this team.

Someday Matta is going to find a good 5 to compliment the scorers on this team. they are missing that something. shannon had one of his better games of the year yesterday, but russell still needs to learn how to play when his shot isn't falling. i'm a fan of how loving plays, but he lost a lot of aggressiveness after his knee/thigh/leg injury late in the 1st half. played very tentatively, and we need him because he, along w/tate, seem to be the guys who are willing to be the grinders on this team. i like the fact that sammy's starting to look for his shot more... it's just not dropping right now. still wondering about kam williams, who hasn't played much since big 10 competition started. he was in for just 7 minutes yesterday and took just one shot. only played 3 min at minnesota. having russell, scott and kam all in together makes us very very small, and rebounding isn't a strength as it is. russell is too turnover prone right now to play the 1. and my god you don't know whether amir isn't working hard enough to get looks inside (i think that's true) or if our perimeter guys just not looking enough to feed him (imho that's also a problem) but he's not getting touches for incredibly long stretches in the game, and he seems to just disappear. we've got to make him part of the offense.

I just recently moved, losing a neighbor who is a Badgers fan while gaining a neighbor who is an IU alum. Happened to walk outside a few minutes ago and bumped into him, decked out in Colts gear, so I offered my congratulations on the win yesterday. Without hesitation, he wished us luck tomorrow night. What?!
He is going to have to be a little rougher around the edges when his team beats mine if we are going to get along. LOL

Thought about that a few weeks ago walking the dog on a Saturday gameday morning here. In my house alone we have Buckeyes, a Sparty and a Clemson tiger. UC, OU (Athens) on either side. On my block you can add psu, va tech, IU and another Sparty. In our development you can add Purdue, UM, UNL, LSU, Alabama, UK and another Clemson couple. There's an Oregon guy who works out at our gym. Half of our neighborhood is either OSU grads or have strong buckeye ties, but the other half is literally from lots of other places.

Left out the guy from Arizona state. I question his sanity the most, moving from Tempe back to central Ohio. Lol
