Well, my browser shut down automatically, so I'm doing this for the second time now....so needless to say, I'm less happy this time around, so these rules are gonna be short and sweet. Don't follow them, and face my wrath. 1. I've mentioned this previously, but the link I use for lines is www.vegasinsider.com. I will post the games on Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on my availability, but you can go on this site and see all the games and usually get a pretty good idea of which ones I'm going to pick and the lines as they sit. I used to take the Hilton's line, but it looks like they may have dropped that casino, so I'll just use the general consensus for the lines. Once I set the line, that's the line for that game that you're picking against, and under no circumstances will that line change at any point, regardless of situations or circumstances that may arise. 2. Picks are due before kickoff of Thursday night's games without exception. In the past, I've let folks pick games on Friday when we don't have Thursday games, well, piss on that idea. If they ain't in by kickoff on Thursday, then it is 0-12 (or 0-15 if I get up that high). I don't care if you've cut off a finger or your wife or daughter is in labor. You'll still have 9 fingers to use your phone to get on the site, and labor lasts for several hours. Tell the wife (or husband) that you've gotta drop a deuce and you'll be back in five. If, by some chance, that you do have a valid excuse that I consider to be "good enough", then I'll put it to the group and everyone can vote. If you convince them that your excuse is good enough, I'll stand by that decision and let you make your picks. Obviously, any game picked after the start of kickoff for that game is a loser. 3. You can change your picks up until the kickoff of Thursday night's games, but you have to provide the following, otherwise, it won't be accepted. Since I input picks on my spreadsheet whenever I look at the site, there's a good chance that I've already input your picks when you make that change. If you want to make a change, you have to do 2 things: a) You have to edit your post with your picks to reflect that change; and b) You have to post a separate post announcing that change. If you don't do both, I won't recognize the change and it will be an automatic loser no matter the result of the game. Also, even if you do both, but don't do it before kickoff of Thursday's game, it is an automatic loser no matter the result. My advice: Don't change your picks. 4. I've thought long and hard about the question of pulling games given the circumstances, and this is what I've decided: IF, and only IF, a game has a major change in circumstances between Thursday evening at kickoff and the time of the kickoff of that game, that game will be yanked and won't be considered. Now, what is the definition of "major change in circumstances"? I honestly find it difficult to believe that this definition will ever be met, but here's how I'm going to define it: If the game we have in question experiences a 10 (or greater) point line change from the spread number set by ME (either up or down), then it is automatically yanked. That line change has to occur between when I post it and kickoff on Saturday (or Friday if that's kickoff time). That spread change can be for any reason, including player injury or suspension (so this is sort of an exception to the rule below). Another major change in circumstances is if the head coach (and only the head coach) resigns, dies, is fired, or suspended, between the posting of my slate and kickoff. Offensive and defensive coordinators on down, tough shit. If the coach goes from fine and dandy on Tuesday, to packing his office in a shoebox on Friday, the game is pulled and not considered. There are no "major change of circumstances" regarding any players on the team. I agree that it would be too difficult to define what constitutes one player's presence in a game from another's presence, so players don't matter. If a star quarterback gets suspended from a game on Friday night (I won't mention any names), the line remains the same and the picks remain the same (unless it causes the spread to shift by 10 or more). Last week I left it that way because out of the 4 players who originally picked FSU, Mark and the Cat went 8-4 so that doesn't sting as bad, and CWG was permitted to change his pick, so he got credit. I did it in the way that would screw myself the most (at least that was the thought) and as I stated, if any of those 4 players are in it at the end and we need to revisit it, I'll take it up at that time. Simply because the lines listed on "vegasinsider.com" are pulled for any reason are not automatic cause for pulling games in the contest. Any other rules or clarifications that are required...sorry...I don't do explanations. Just kidding. Questions or suggestions for other rule considerations, post them here.

I'm sure you know this, but.....just a note....whenever I'm writing something long here, I write it in MSWord and then cut and paste. This place is too unstable.

There is nothing unreasonable here:
I'd have considered putting the 10 point swing at 8 as most lines only change 1 to 3 points under normal betting circumstances. Example 1: I was surprised to see UF bet down from +17 1/2 when it opened Sunday night to +14 1/2 by Wednesday when you posted the game. Example 2: Clemson went from +20 on Wednesday morning to +10 1/2 by the time of kickoff. Even with the not named player above not playing at all, it still wasn't enough to trigger a pull that I think should have happened. There are likely some serious team changes going on to get up to an 8 point swing from Wednesday to game time.
I like that you are using the consensus. That's all I look at in advance.
You might want to consider a one week grace period on the Thursday deadline as some posters, I immediately think of Robb, don't check in every day because they don't know they need to or they are traveling due to their work.
Good job, I'm in.

I originally had the line spread at 7 instead of the 10, but I reconsidered. I honestly want to make the bar set so high as to keep the possibility of a game being yanked from occurring if at all possible. At 7, the FSU game would have been yanked. Maybe it should have been...but given the possible outcry, I just left it alone. I mainly want to be able to just leave it alone and let it play out as it will...but definitely, there will be some times when drastic measures need to be taken.
I also originally wrote it to where the line change had to be 7 points from the close of picks to kickoff. Meaning that a game set by me falls 3 points from Wednesday to Thursday night, and falls another 5 points from Thursday night to kickoff would stay on the list because even though it was 8 points from posting to kickoff...it was only 5 from end of pick time to kickoff.
I scrapped that idea because mainly, I didn't want to have to check lines on Thursday nights on the possibility that something bad could happen on Friday. That's a waste of my time. Additionally, it would be inherently unfair to me. LOL

So you're telling me if I don't have all my picks in by Thursday night it's automatic 0-whatever for the week even with 99% of the games we pick still nearly 48 hours away from kick off? If that's the rule then my counter rule is that the games to pick must be posted by 8pm Tuesday no exceptions. I don't care if your computer goes out, there's free WiFi everywhere or if your wife is in labor, go tell her you must put up the picks for the guys

Sorry chief, but you can kiss my ass in Macy's window in front of everyone here. Those are the rules. If you don't like it....don't play. Or, alternatively, you can run the entire contest, keep the spreadsheets, look at the games, keep track of the spreads, make up your own rules, and do it how you want.
When we originally started this game...the rule was always that picks were in before the first game. I let that rule go lax at my own expense and peril. I don't like having to try to monitor people or let anyone have a disadvantage. Including me.
It takes 5 minutes to make picks. It takes me over an hour to put each week together. If I have time on Tuesday, I do it Tuesday...if not...then Wednesday. I don't have time Tuesday or Wednesday this week...so I'm going to drag my shit home and do it tonight if I have to. So stop being an ungrateful dick canoe and roll with it. I ain't getting paid enough to be concerned that you somehow can't find 10 minutes between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday night to spare 10 minutes.
