They are still working on it AFAIK. When they found out I don't smoke, it spun them out a bit so they went back to the drawing board and ordered news tests on the biopsy. I will let you know when I find out. small cell carcinoma is from smoking, or exposure to smoking......they (as i read this) said it's squamous cell carcinoma. Odd that they had "pre-conditions" in place to start your treatment and then find their "pre-conditions" weren't right. ya might consider coming to columbus for a period of time for your treatments. Apparently,(and this is my interpretation only) the chemo cocktail can vary depending on whether it is SCC of a skin cell that spread or SCC of a lung cell that spread. Thus, figuring out if the lung tumor is primary or secondary matters. Does that sound reasonable?

Positive Karma to both Marc and Walt.
My wife is having her right breast removed when we return from a two week vaca, after finding a T1 cell. That'll match her left, which was done 7 yrs ago. Could have done a partial but she/we decided to be done w it. Good news is no chemo, radiation or post surgery meds. Biggest problem was setting up an appt w the reconstruction MD and coordinating w her doctor. The guy is busy, busy. Prayers for your wife. My wife had a double mastectomy about 6 years ago. She also did not need the chemo or radiation, which was wonderful news. Be careful, who does your reconstruction she was botched by a doctor here in Charlotte and another in Charleston before making her way to New Orleans to a top breast reconstruction specialist who straightened out the mess of the other two doctors. Dr. Trehan, I send him a Christmas card every year. 😊 Thanks. Should work out well, if there are no surprises or complications. Second time around for her. Dr will redo the first one to balance the two and we move on.
So OK, here's the rest of the sunflower tatt story. We are in a small waiting area for the reconstruction MD, for the initial, the MD was running late and there was a younger couple waiting for a year followup visit. We get to talking and he shows me a sunflower tatt on his chest he had done, explaining that this is what his wife had done on each breast , as the new nipple. I said it looks cool but how did it work out for her. She then asks if I'd like to see them. And pops up her t shirt to show them off. They looked great. I have great confidence in the MD.

Does that sound reasonable? you can get small cell carcinoma just about anywhere.....as you can get squamous cell cancer just about anywhere, provided you have squamous cells there, which generally are a "skin cell type" but lots of the parts in the body have a "skin" on them, like your throat. small cell that starts in the lungs, again is tobacco use/exposure. have they told you the chemo cocktail they have to choose from for the various carcinomas it may be?

Not yet. I have a meeting coming up about it. PET scan first, (apparently), which occurs Sunday.

odd that a skin cancer spreads to the lungs, however melanoma can show up anywhere, and really has nothing to do with the sun. did they give a class of what cell is cancerous? Basil, Squamous, are the most general of the "skin cancers" Melanoma is listed as such also. Small cell, non-small cell are the two most common lung cancers. best advice i can give you at this point is to try to rebuild your own immune system that was supposed to keep these things in check. It wont do anything for the cancer, but may protect the other remaining cells from wanting to become cancerous. there are 5 steps of displaysa in a cell from normal to cancerous. NAC Reduced Glutathione Alpha Lipoic Acid Calcium -D- Glucarate you might even check with your onco, if there are any stage 1-2-3 trials with any of these included with the chemo if you wanna talk about the chemo and radiation parts of this, message me for my phone #, and a time of day that you may call (due to all the robo calls i get) been going through some type or other chemo/radiation for over 20 years now Squamous cell in the lung. They assumed it spread to the spine, but did not biopsy spine. Now they are not so sure. They are looking at the lung biopsy now for protein markers that would label the primary as skin and not lung. Don't know it that would be better or worse. I can't wait to hit my 20th anniversary of chemo/radiation. Onco-guy gave me 3 yrs, tops. Clay Helton needs to get his shit together, pronto. If they found it in the lungs it is much better for you if it is lung origin. That would, at least for the moment, mean it had not spread from another body part. If it is squamous cell, it is non-small cell, which is about 85% of lung cancers, with squamous being about 25%. All basic info you probably already know or have looked up. Staging is what is important now. Best of luck.

Had my meeting with Radiation-Girl yesterday. After calibration and tattoo, I start 3 weeks of radiation sometime next week after a PET scan on Sunday...followed by Chemo. The bitch is that the radiation joint is up in Hollywood, which will require me to fight insufferable traffic into town every day. It's a tossup which I dread more, the radiation or the traffic. does it make sense to rent a place up there instead of fighting traffic or is that cost-prohibitive? good luck. I was going to suggest the same thing. You think you hate the traffic now, just wait until you are stuck in it after a radiation treatment.

I have a 10 minute zap done Monday afternoon to hit a spot I had surgically removed mid-dec. didn't take long to grow back

just got home from oncologist office..........stating 2 months. film showed the progress of the disease, but actually would need to run a bone scan to see how much is in my bones and joints. Keytruda is an option to attempt an extra couple of months, but the side effects are such that the extra time is spent in the hospital trying to slow, stop. the side effects. I have a liver disease, and one side effect is hepatitis, and other organ failure. wife and i will have some extended talks today/tomorrow but it's looking like i check out of here in a couple of months tops. Damnit....we’ve all been here so long, it’s tough to hear this news about you and Walt both. Thoughts and prayers.
