Had a bad crash while skating my 5 miles yesterday and broke my clavicle in two places. I was able to skate back to the house holding my right arm up with my left hand, and my wife drove me to the ER.
First broken bone in 63 years of skiing, racing motorcycles, football, etc.
Had to sign an agreement wth my left hand to pay the hospital $2,800 to get an x-ray and a sling-- but that didn't include the cost of the x-ray and sling.
only in america

Hopefully, you were wearing a helmet..... which didn't crack. So I'll bite. You're retired, over 65 and made more than a few bucks as a medical doctor. You have Medicare, could've easily afforded some form of sup ins. Why did you have to write them a check for $2,800? I've gone into the ER for minor stuff that required immediate attention and I just gave them my cards. And moved on.

I've been skating laps out there for 30 years, and never had a serious crash. This was a weird one. Something stopped my left skate cold at 12-13 mph. I rotated counter- clockwise and pitched forward with a shoulder roll on the pavement. If I had been wearing shoulder pads and landed on turf, it would have been a routine play.

Sorry to hear you are injured. Now I'm gonna tell you what my kid recently said to me about a physical behavior. Climbing a two story ladder to put down a cpl of nails. "Pops, you aren't 32 anymore. That was 40 yrs ago. In your case 30. He promptly monkeyed up the ladder and was down in under 5 minutes.

Hope you heal well Willie. Are you in much pain right now? I'm ok, thanks, but I think I'll need maximum hardware. The loose bone fragment keeps moving out of place.

My legs are so bad I cant lift either up to even try to go up a ladder. But instead of calling any of our 30 something kids she is all the time pulling the ladder out and up she goes. Usually lately all the smoke alarm backup batteries are running out and we have 10-12 foot ceilings. So up she goes and I hold the ladder and hope to catch her should she fall.
