309 mass shootings in 180 days. No comment? Nothing to see here? No problems? One reason I stay away from this type of discussion is the term mass shooting is such an artificial definition. What happened in Illinois on Monday was a mass shooting. Gangbangers in Illinois pretty much every weekend? Not so much. Um....So....7 dead people in one end of Chicago isn't a mass shooting, but 7 dead people in another is? Hmmmm..... What could possibly account for such a discrepancy in evaluation?

What could possibly account for such a discrepancy in evaluation? Pretty simple. The definition you’re using from GVA is 4 or more people shot equals mass shooting. There were something like 25 shot in Highland Park, plus 7 deaths. That’s 32 people. Compare that with an incident of four shot with no dead…that’s classified the same as what took place in Highland Park. They’re nowhere near the same.

I get that, but IMO, aside from the actual statistical difference, the shootings are the same. But what I think does separates the two is that one type of shooting involves people known to each other, say, at a drunken party with guns, while the other is random. When I hear "mass shooting", I think the random kind, not the rage of some insulted party-goer who is going to show them that "they can't mess with me!" Same number of dead, but a completely different reason why.

You stay away from these discussions because you don't want to admit that NRA/GOP horseshit is responsible for obstructing common sense, live-saving gun control legislation in the U.S.

309 mass shootings in 180 days. No comment? Nothing to see here? No problems? Not one damn inch will we gave up to you people again. It's never enough for you until the only people with guns will be the criminals and the government. Just leave if you don't like this country. The only thing to see here is that there is a problem with criminals in this country, and no law of ANY kind will stop a criminal from doing whatever the hell he wants to. Laws provide only for punishment IF the criminal actually gets convicted, and IF the judge actually decides to give him the max sentence.
You always hear about the plane that crashed. You NEVER hear about the thousands of planes that complete flights safely every day. Same with the "gun problem." You NEVER hear about the many times when guns are successfully used by good guys to stop crimes or stop the bad guys from getting away. You don't hear about the many normal citizens who have successfully defended themselves and their homes. Sometimes they shoot the bad guy. Sometimes the bad guy dies. Sometimes the bad guy is only wounded, and later gets arrested. Sometimes they shoot and miss, but the bad guy runs away. Sometimes they simply SHOW the gun, and the bad guy loses interest in being bad. Yes, sometimes the good guy gets hurt or killed in the process, but that is ALWAYS preferable to being a sheeple who is completely at the mercy of a bad guy or totalitarian government. You can find and listen to all the 911 calls you want where a resident has had to shoot an intruder because the cops had still not gotten there.
I am keeping my guns, thank you very much.
Maybe Demonrats and gun hating lieberals should actually do some REAL research.

Same number of dead, but a completely different reason why. Using the number 4 overstates things and it also cheapens real (imo) mass shootings.

Other than politicizing them, you don't give a damn about mass shootings. Don't you just hate that pesky Constitution?
Why haven't we banned alcohol so people won't drive drunk and cars won't kill people? Why haven't we banned narcotic drugs so people cannot OD on them, accidentally or deliberately? Why haven't we banned motor vehicles that can easily travel well over 100 MPH, which is illegal in every area I can think of. I'd like to know what law that is constitutional and doesn't harass law-abiding citizens would stop these shootings. I would love to guarantee that criminals can never touch guns, but you can not punish the entire country for the crimes of a few. That is not how America works, and not how it was designed to work.
Liberals should demand that needles in syringes not have that hole in the end so dopeheads could not inject drugs into their veins. Problem solved.

You get outraged when four people are killed in a single location, but yawn and light your stogie when 15 blacks are murdered in ten different incidents in Chicago the same weekend. Selective outrage. You don't think the border needs to be secured and didn't even care when that trailer load of illegals turned up dead in Texas. But let one illegal get deported and you are all upset.

But let one illegal get deported and you are all upset. There is a common denominator in all the shootings that the Demonrats conveniently want to dismiss. All of the illegal shootings are committed by CRIMINALS. A gun is not Repub or Dem, neither is it evil or good. It is a machine that does only what its operator directs it to do.
They are just as stupid when they lie and say gun manufacturers are immune from liability litigation. That is a TOTAL LIE. Just like Ford or GM, if Glock or Smith and Wesson market a defective product, then they could be held liable if the defect causes the gun to malfunction. Didn't we see that the baby formula maker pulled their product as soon as it was suspected that the product could be defective? Ford, GM, and the gunmakers do EXACTLY the same thing, and publish notices of recall in all the trade publications, and anywhere else that the information can be rapidly disseminated.
And just like Ford and GM can't be sued for drunk drivers who misuse their products, Glock and S&W cannot be sued for the criminal use of THEIR product which was sold defect-free. Any half-assed lawyer could beat that kind of frivolous lawsuit all day long.

Bullshit. You stay away from these discussions because you don't want to admit that NRA/GOP horseshit is responsible for obstructing common sense, live-saving gun control legislation in the U.S. Illinois has your so-called “common sense” gun laws, including a red flag law. You can see how effective they are every weekend in Chicago. And how effective they were Monday in Highland Park. FTR, “assault weapons “ are banned in HP. What a pile of horse crap. The truth is that the few gun control half-measures that exist in the U.S. have been completely inadequate to prevent our epidemic of mass shootings-- 309 in 2022! There are too many loopholes, and lax law enforcement. And the NRA-funded Republicon Party is responsible for systematically sabotaging effective gun control measures that have worked in other countries to reduce mass shootings, and gun homicides, in general.

Clearly the red flag laws fall horribly short in efficacy. As for local gun bans, they are totally useless if the jurisdictions across the street and down the block don't have similar laws in place.

Yeah right, because the Republican Party has so much sway in Illinois.
