out of the dispatch today....
- corey smith will be coming back in the '16 season. the ncaa has approved a 6th year of eligibility for the wr who broke his leg at indiana. that will be a huge help for a position group that does not have a lot of experience.
- at the moment joe burrow is the #2 qb behind j.t. barrett. meyer commented on both smith and burrow on his radio show wrapping up the l.o.i. signees yesterday.
- kyle berger was a redshirt frosh who struggled staying healthy due to constant knee injuries. those injuries have forced berger to give up his football career.
- nice feature on incoming recruit malcolm pridgeon, who was an all-american junior college ot at nassau comm. college in ny state. when he was 11, his dad dies of a heart attack. 5 years later his mom has a heart attack and stroke, forcing her into a nursing home for round the clock care. he's overcome quite a bit, including subsequent grade issues in hs. it's very rare for osu to go the j.c. route in recruiting, but pridgeon, at 6'8 325 will have a shot at challenging isaiah prince and jamarco jones for one of the two open starting spots at tackle.
- of the 25 guys signed yesterday, 9 are from ohio, 4 from fla, 3 from maryland, 2 from ny, 1 each from ill, ky, va, nj, mich, ind and nc. 11 states. most in recent memory to me. also one of the lower totals from ohio that i can remember.
- 9 central ohio kids are headed to other big 10 schools. 2 of the starting o-linemen from the hs's in our district here are both headed to msu. dantonio plucked 3 recruits from here. psu got an o-lineman and a d-lineman, n'western got a couple, uw got a lb and a db. oklahoma got a de (after 2 yrs in jr college) who i think will end up at lb in norman, maybe the first kid ever from this area at ou. the school who recruited the most local kids was uk, with 4.

not just interesting. heart-warming. thanks dale for posting, funny how lots of folks will automatically transfer a player's on field persona assuming he's the same away from the sport. nice to hear about kurt and especially how it's not anything he calls attention to... simply being a friend. pay it forward.

the ruling on smith was not a surprise, and obviously that will help the wr group w/some needed experience, especially from a guy who made his way up the depth chart not by catching passes but by blowing up on special teams and blocking on the edge as an extra wide out. but i feel for berger, who was an absolute stud up at st. ignatius and i thought had the potential to be a matt wilhelm-type lb. fate can be cruel sometimes when it comes to dreams... especially in the form of chronic injuries. i wish him luck on his new path in life.

Not quite Mike D'Andrea, but pretty darn close.

Orlando Pace has a new Jacket... also:
Pace, like Favre in his first year of Hall eligibility, was an imposing left tackle who blocked for the winners of three consecutive NFL MVP awards during his 13-year career, the first dozen with the Rams. He started all 16 games in seven seasons and was an All-Pro five times.
^^ I didn't know that...^^^^

Anyone know off the top off your head?
