Herbstreit: Winston wanted to come back but leaving for family


Jameis Winston is leaving Florida State to enter the NFL draft, but ABC/ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit said he thinks Winston wanted to return to FSU but is leaving to alleviate pressure on his family.

“I don’t think he wanted to come out,” Herbstreit said on nationally syndicated radio show Mike & Mike on Wednesday morning. “I don’t know if anybody else has said that, but I think he wanted to come back to play for Florida State. I think he wanted to come back and play for Florida State because he knows he needs to continue to grow – on and off the field.

“I think it had everything to do with his family and what they dealt with – it wasn’t so much what he endured, because he got piled on. I did seven of their games. … The things those fans would say to him when they were on the road – I didn’t know people talked liked that to athletes. It was unbelievable what he endured.

"He can handle that. But what his grandma and his mom and his dad had to endure back in Alabama – that, I think, is the reason he’s getting out.”

Herbstreit said he believes Winston will be the No. 1 pick in the draft. “How can Tampa pass on him?” Herbstreit said. “They are going to get a great player and they are going to sell tickets. It’s going to get their franchise excited again. I think he’s going to be a great player."

Florida State doubled up Florida and Miami in recruiting

FSU signed more 5 and 4 star recruits than UF and UM combined.

Nice documentary about Justin Motlow, who you might remember is the first tribal member to play for the Noles. I have known his Mom since before he was born so to see him represent his great family and the tribe with the class that he does is a really cool thing. Hopefully the story doesn't end here.

BTW, he is dating Shannon Magrane, of American Idol fame and daughter of former MLB pitcher Joe Magrane. Not a bad looking young lady to have by your side, eh?

Hey, any of you FSU guys remember/know what happened with KilroyFSU from the old boards/AOHell stuff? I've had him on an email list, and all at once, his stuff started bouncing.

I don't recall all the 'zactlies, but I remember he had ties to Ohio, and was (early on) attending FSU in the Air Force ROTC...I can't remember the last time I actually heard from him, but as I said, all at once,  the emails started bouncing...

Well, I'm glad he's still kickin'...I had a similar occurrence about a year or so ago, and found out a guy I worked with in the Army had passed away.  If you have reason to communicate with him, please tell him I said hello.

As I recall Kilroy, over the course of his time on the old boards, got out of the military, got married and started law school. That sort of cut into his message board time pretty heavily and he likely realized he could live without it. <g>

Well then coming to the aol boards was a good learning tool for becoming a lawyer___He heard different arguments from buckeye fans for 10 years but the same tired argument from cane fans. <vbg>
