I don't know. Been hot and cold all year. Now all of a sudden the pitching staff is piling up injuries. Going to be a sprint to the finish line. Guards up 4 games in the division with yesterdays win over KC.__didnt think they were ever going to hit Wacha until breaking thru with Lanes' homer in the 5th. KC still leads the head-to-head 6-4 but they got to get out off this 6 game losing skidMeh. Right after the series in Cleveland last week we got hit by the injury bug. Losing the Pasquatch for the rest of the season was a killer. But we lost Erceg for I still haven't heard how long on the same play. Massey is fighting his back that's put him on the DL twice already this year and two starters and two relievers are on the temporary shelf. I'm not optimistic about making the playoffs now.

Last month or so he looked like he did before his shoulder surgery last year. He had passed Witt & Salvy with 97 rbi & 19 dingers. Hard to make up that loss of production in the 3 hole.

Hard to make up that loss of production in the 3 hole. last night shows you how cruel baseball can be. I think it was the 6th inning. bibee is cruising, up 4-1, but loads up the bases w/no outs. perez squares up one on the screws but the line drive is right at kwan. the guy on 3rd drifts down the line instead of tagging right away and when he rushes back to the base to tag up he loses his footing. the next royal up (can't remember who) then drills one to left center that kwan tracks down for a sac fly. bibee then gets a punch out to end the inning. a couple feet was all the difference in cleveland getting out of the inning or kc getting back in it. not to mention rocchio, who tries to lay down a sacrifice bunt, twice, and fails, then goes down the line for a 2 run hr. 4 rbi's out of the 9 hole. strange game.

Baseball. It's why we love it and hate it. Me, I've always been the guy who loves a 1-0 12 inning game but a lot of folks get bored with that. When we had the run to the World Series win in 16 we came back against the Angels in the playoffs and won on Salvy with a seeing eye shot down the line that the 3rd baseman's glove came within an inch of.

It must drive players nuts sometimes. I forget who it was, but the Dodgers were playing the Dbacks last week, one of the Dodgers killed the ball all night, but because of how big the field is, ended up hitting three 400+ foot outs in a row, then on his last at bat gets jammed and loops one over the 2nd baseman's head. Box score: f8, f8, f8, 1b. As he stood on 1st base, he had a big grin on his face, shook his head, said something to the 1st baseman and they both laughed. Ah, baseball!

I was in school in KC in the 70s and they had a big 1B John Mayberry. His HE'S were never those high arching fly balls but rather line drive rockets. So of course he nail a lot of those down the 1B line, he was a LH dead pull hitter. Those corner infielders in MLB are fearless. Guys like him were probably hitting liners at them well over 100 mph. I'd have been playing 1st as medium depth RF.

One dollar for a grandstand seat in the outfield and I think a hot dog and beer as something like one or two dollars. A lot of students out there on those nights.

Q was back from his mothers funeral for this game. I saw Erceg pitched. Lorenzson is supposed to be about ready to return and Renfroe went to Omaha for a rehab, expected back this weekend. Other than the Pas and Harvey we look to be trying to get healthy.

Royals had some players back then….Brett, White, Otis, McRae, Wilson, Leonard just to name a few.

They had a suite at the stadium so they got so many tickets to the playoffs. I was there the three years they went to the playoffs vs the Yankees and Farmland did a drawing for multiple sets of two tickets to each game. I somehow won two tickets to one game each of the three years. Unfortunately they were not in the suite but it was fun being in the stadium for playoff baseball.

Too bad KC couldn’t get over the hump with the Yankees at least one of those years. The 2nd year they had it and Whitey got too cute. Dennis Leonard had dominated the Yankees all year. Went into the 9th in the final game with the lead and instead of using the close, Mark Littel, he brought Leonard in. I think it was 2 days rest and the first relief appearance ever for Leonard and they got him. Gave up the lead and then Littel comes in and shuts them down cold. Herzog didn't make a lot of mistakes but that one was a biggie.
